Maintaining your domain registration and hosting services within the same account allows you to manage both services with only one login password, making it easier for you to stay on top of everything related to your website. This article explains the process of transferring your domain to Bluehost, so there are no surprises along the way.
This process includes transfers to/from our MX partners.
Want to host your website here and keep the domain registered elsewhere? Try assigning a domain to your account instead.
- Prepare Your Domain
Review Contact Information
Disable Privacy
Update Name Servers
Unlock Domain
Obtain EPP Code
- Initiate the Transfer - Check the Progress - Additional Resources
Prepare Your Domain
In preparation for the transfer, you need to update your domain settings with the current registrar. Please contact them if you need assistance. You may also refer to the flowchart below, which summarizes the process of a Domain Transfer:
Tumblr media
Review Your Contact Information
Your contact information is included on your domain's record in the WHOIS database, as required by ICANN. Upon transfer, the gaining registrar will use the information on the domain's record to email critical information regarding the transfer to the administrative contact, so you need to correct it. It's best to avoid using an email address associated with the domain; use a public email service, like Gmail, instead.
Updating the registrant contact information (name, organization, or email address) for a general top-level domain (gTLD) will initiate a Change of Registrant process, which requires additional verification before the new information is saved. Each registrar handles this process differently, so check with yours to see what you need to do.
Disable Privacy
The next step is to disable domain privacy. Privacy masks your contact information from being made public in the WHOIS database. Still, the gaining registrar needs that information to know where to send the code(s) authorizing the transfer. Once Privacy is disabled, the registrar can view the contact information on your domain's WHOIS record and send the domain transfer emails to the administrator; otherwise, those emails will go to a Privacy Protection inbox that cannot be accessed.
Update Your Name Servers
Name Servers direct the traffic for your domain to the host server. If you've already moved the website to your Bluehost account, you'll want to update your nameservers now to minimize downtime during the transfer; otherwise, you'll have to wait until the transfer is complete. You cannot make DNS changes while the transfer is in progress, so it is important that you do it now.
Our nameservers are:
- ns1.Bluehost.com - ns2.Bluehost.com
Your new DNS settings will begin to propagate as soon as you save your changes. Each ISP updates at a different rate, usually taking 24 - 72 hours to complete worldwide. During this time, your emails will be down, and your web traffic will be directed to either the old or new host, depending on the visitor's ISP.
Unlock the Domain
The next step is to unlock your domain, making it available for transfer. Some registrars allow you to unlock your domain manually, while other registrars will do it for you.
Obtain the EPP Code
Finally, you need the EPP code, also called the Authorization or Auth code. It's essentially a unique password for the domain, made up of letters, numbers, and special characters required to authorize the transfer. For example: 1e20459-438b211db# or N7HS-V24-T16-B81. If you're unsure how to get your EPP code, please contact your current Domain Registrar for assistance.
Initiate the Transfer

Here you have the option to change your nameservers, set your renewal preference, and choose if you want to add domain privacy. 8. Finally, check the box agreeing to the Terms of Service, then click Add to Cart. 9. ICANN requires the gaining registrar to renew the domain for one year upon transfer, which you'll see in the Shopping Cart. Process the payment to initiate the transfer.
Check the Progress
It can take up to five days for a domain transfer to complete, but some registrars will allow you to expedite it by manually approving the transfer. In the meantime, you can check its progress by following these steps:
1. Log in to your Bluehost Domain Manager. 2. Click Transfer in the submenu at the top of the page. 3. View the transfer progress under Details, and click the link for more information.
Additional Resources

Since Blogger (blogspot) isn't an actual hosting company, there's no real way to transfer the site from Blogger to your account with us directly.
However, Blogger has a feature which will allow you to export your site content to a more universal format.
They have a FAQ entry on how to accomplish it here.
WordPress does support importing directly from your blogger account:
Simply install WordPress from MOJO Marketplace in your cPanel.
Then in your WordPress Admin area (example.com/wp-admin), go to Manage → Import → Blogger and follow the directions to complete the import.

How to Create a Wordpress website with Bluehost.
Your website is important because it is the only place where you can communicate with your customers, build an audience and establish your brand and digital presence. Create a website is the first thing to do if you want to start a successful blog, to offer your services or to sell products. Creating both a personal website and an e-commerce site is as easy as setting up a WordPress content management platform (CMS).
Here is a short guide on how to set up a website with Bluehost and WordPress. With the power of WordPress and website infrastructure, Bluehost is a reliable and trusted web hosting partner that allows you to set up websites in minutes and has one for the world you can visit in just a few hours.
This guide takes you on a journey from buying Bluehost hosting to installing WordPress on your site. Click here to start your WordPress website with Bluehost and use the rest of this post to go through the exact steps to a successful site. This guide from Themeisle shows you how to install WordPress on Bluehost to get started with your new site.
In this post we will discuss how to create an effective WordPress blog with Bluehost as hosting provider. This guide will help people who are new to setting up a website and show them how to set up WordPress with Bluehost at a low cost that is reliable. The first step to creating your WordPress site is to register your domain name and purchase hosting.
While you have several web hosting options available, I suggest launching your WordPress site journey with Bluehost. Bluehost is not only user-friendly, but also integrates a number of tools and features into your WordPress dashboard to streamline the creation of websites. As a WordPress hosting solution, all elements you need for your website are perfect for several startup sites, and you can sign up for WordPress hosting plans with BlueHost to ensure you have the latest and safest version of WordPress installed before you start building.
Daily updates are provided during the creation of your WordPress plan account to ensure that your site is up to date. Once you have selected BlueHost as your Webhosting, WordPress will be automatically installed for you. Depending on your preferences, you can choose the theme of your choice before you start building your WordPress site.
Instead of trying to select a theme rushing, you will be taken to a page inviting you to select a theme for your site and find the right one for your site. If you choose a free WordPress theme from Bluehost, skip this step and you see a page that says that you will begin building with all your WordPress themes. You can go to the desired WordPress theme and begin to customize the design and construction of your site with the chosen theme.
After Bluehost has installed WordPress, you can create your new WordPress site and view your login details. Enter your new site name, username and password, and your WordPress site is ready to go. When ready to launch, click the Launch Your Website button to go live on the Bluehost WordPress dashboard.
Once you have found a theme, such as a paid theme, you will need to download it and install it on your website. Instead of installing WordPress on Bluehost himself, you can choose one of the free themes and it will automatically set up your site with just one click. To learn how to start writing blog posts about your products or customize your site with free and paid topics, I suggest you try them out to take immediate control of your site.
You don't have to, as we'll show you later in this guide how to find and install free WordPress templates for your site. Your next step is to navigate to the WordPress dashboard and learn how to add pages, posts and plugins to your site. Click the Create Website button to install and get started.
Once you have the domain you want to use, you can enter it at that time. You must enter some basic information about your website, including the name of the website and the slogan of the website. Once you have selected your domain, you will need to buy it and choose a hosting company that meets the requirements of your site.
Choosing a hosting provider that offers hosting for WordPress sites is ideal if you are building a website using WordPress. Some web hosting companies offer a free domain if you decide to launch a website on them. Bluehost is recommended hosting provider because they offer WPBeginner user a free domain for and you can choose to build your website with their services.
With a clear focus, you should be able to have your WordPress site hosted on Bluehost, set up and ready to use within hours. Bluehost offers its own dashboard in the Bluehost area of your WordPress dashboard, which helps you run your website if you're not sure where to start. It is also possible to create your own site with a normal WordPress dashboard.
If you are struggling to modify and build your WordPress site, Bluehost ThemeForest is a great site to give you a premium WordPress theme or look for an award-winning design agency to design your site. You may also want to see our guide for choosing the perfect WordPress theme for your site. Here's a little how to build a site with Bluehost guide that shows you how you can choose a free theme for WordPress.
It is best to start with a free theme to add elements and content to your website before moving to a customizable premium theme. There are so many modern free themes that if you don't find one you like, you can always upgrade to a premium theme to have more choice and customization features.
** Every new Bluehost account includes a free new domain registration or domain transfer.
