Figured I'd have my Attack the Block drawing on this sideblog as well...
Just remembered some artwork I did of a character I made up for Attack the Block fan fiction that never got written.

I like how it turned out, so I felt like sharing…However, her hair turned out much more orange than I intended it to be.

The only thing I want from Pac Rim 2 now is a scene at the very end where Herc has to pilot in a final desperate mission with Stacker’s son and as he slams his hand down on the “sacrifice selves” button to blow up the new breach Herc uses his final breath to scream. “SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT.”

Pacific Rim has a Build-Your-Own-Jaeger feature on their website. Some folks haven’t taken it as seriously as I suspect the PR folks thought they would.

Lilo and Nani lost both their parents when their Jaeger (Ohana King) fell in of the Kaijuu attacks.Due to a severe storm hovering over the area where Ohana King was at the time it had gone off the radar and was never found.
Nani was still a child herself when she had to take up the mantle and play both mother and father to Lilo. When given the opportunity to join the corps and train to become Jaeger pilots, Nani agreed if only to have enough money for food and a consistent roof over their heads. A few years after living on base Marshall Cobra Bubbles got word that a rescue team had news on the whereabouts of the wreckage of Ohana King. Upon finding it, they discovered something else, something worse. A remote team was experimenting on live animals with the remains of the Kaijuu DNA. Most of their creations died off, but one survived, a little french bulldog who had curiously turned blue during the experiments. His tongue and eyes sometimes glow and he is super intelligent.
After some extreme begging and persuasive talking Lilo convinced Cobra Bubbles to allow him to stay and named him Stitch. With the official title of a “Therapy Dog” he was able to live with them and became a sort of mascot for Nani’s Jaeger team.
When Lilo got old enough she enlisted as well, and when Nani’s old partner David injured his leg to the point where he had to retire she became her sister’s co-pilot. David still helps by piloting one of the helicopters that bring the Jaegers out of the base. With it’s new jockey’s Ohana King has never operated so smoothly.
5/?? of my Disney Jaeger Pilot Series

Five Reasons You Should Drop Everything And Watch “Attack the Block”
This is a really amazing sci-fi movie that came out about 5 years ago, and it didn’t get as much attention as it deserved. So, now that everyone rightfully recognizes John Boyega for the talent he is, I’m gonna resume my crusade in getting as many people to watch this as humanly possible. So, here’s a bunch of reasons why you should watch Attack the Block:
1. John Boyega (and other performances)
This movie was his breakout role, and for good reason. It has what I believe to be the best young male performances in the last decade. He’s earnest, and smart, commanding, vulnerable, and the intensity of his gaze in certain scenes is stunning. Not to mention, he’s surrounded by a hilarious, clever, and brilliant ensemble. Franz Drameh is all dry and abrasive wit, Alex Esmail damn near steals scenes with some hilarious one-liners, and Leeon Jones delivers a line about texting that cracks me the fuck up every time I hear it.
2. The cinematography and the direction
Tumblr media
It’s gorgeous. No, really, this film is GORGEOUS. I remember at one point, Lexi Alexander said something like Great Britain manages to do such beautiful work on a shoestring budget, and this absolutely proves it. Joe Cornish (who is a frequent Edgar Wright collaborator) and Tom Townend (the cinematographer) did an amazing job. The movie isn’t beautiful just for the sake of being beautiful, the interplay of shadows and light play a large part in telling the story, and helping the audience understand the characters as people. Also the scenes in the hallways are simply stunning, imo.
Not to mention, they know how to light black people in darkness, which seems to be surprisingly hard for white filmmakers to do. There’s a really great understanding of the tension between how black children are seen and how they are, and they use shadowing and light to talk about the tension and peel back the layers. And it’s GORGEOUS.
3. The social commentary
Tumblr media
John Boyega plays the leader of a teen gang, and it opens with them robbing a white woman walking alone. But don’t let that deter you, because the movie itself is invested in examining who the kids are, as well as fucking gems like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention, good Lord, this movie is 1000% sympathetic to the lives and experiences of the kids. And it treats them like the kids that they are, even when they fuck up. It’s entirely invested in humanizing them as they fight the monsters. Speaking of which…
4. THE MONSTERS
Tumblr media
THEY WERE BUILT PRACTICALLY. THEY’RE FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. AND TERRIFYING. And look absolutely NOTHING like any sci fi monster we’ve ever seen and it’s amazing!
5. The soundtrack
If y’all know me, you should already know that I know good movie soundtracks. If you don’t know me, well, fam, I know good movie soundtracks. And this soundtrack easily makes my top 10. Basement Jaxx put their foot in this one.
GET THAT SNITCH
GET THE STRAP
DON’T GIVE A FUCK
BLAT. BLAT. BLAT!
So watch it. DO IT NOW. BLAT BLAT BLAT!
