The extent to which pixel artists have a hard time quantifying what counts as pixel art has led to a lot of gatekeeping and I don't like it. They say high-resolution art can't be pixel art, but people take intentionally low-res photos and that's definitely not pixel art. They say using the spray tool means the work isn't deliberate enough to be pixel art, but all the other tools they use are perfectly fine, of course.

Does using rotsprite to automate your rotations make it no longer pixel art? Some people think so. I just don't get it. Pixel art is hard to quantify, but that sure doesn't make it hard for some people to exclude other pixel artists.

Progress showcase for Ravenna's sprites.

Honestly, I can't recall the last time I toiled away at one thing for so long. I started work on this well over a year ago now. So much has evolved, so much has changed, it's sobering for me to see it all arrayed like this. And yet, it's still one of the best choices I ever made.
