The gross over-equipping of police forces with military surplus is a direct result of rollbacks on restrictions of the 1033 program by the president in 2017. Prior studies have suggested that the militarization of police not only increases violence BY, but also AGAINST police, as if that isn’t blatantly evident by now. Billions of dollars are allocated in the name of “safety,” yet health professionals are contracting and dying from Covid because we can’t allot them the proper equipment.
