Sony Classics is heading to the convent with Novitiate, acquiring the title after its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
Written and directed by Maggie Betts, the drama stars Margaret Qualley as Cathleen, a young woman in training to become a nun who struggles with issues of faith, the changing church and sexuality during the early 1960s and the era of Vatican II.
Melissa Leo, Julianne Nicholson and Dianna Agron are also featured in the film.
Carole Peterman, Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler produced the film, with Jessica Betts and Roland Betts as executive producers.
According to sources, Sony Classics acquired worldwide rights for the film with a deal in the low seven figure range.
