It had been a little while since the last time I made art of these two… I figured the occasion justified a small sequence. 🤭

One element I actually quite liked about Mario and Peach’s first meeting in the film was the unusual context surrounding it. This whole misunderstanding involving the royal toad brigade, with Mario being initially mistaken for a dangerous trespasser and chased around inside the Castle… I thought it was a great setup to introduce the two, as it helped build tension and cleverly established how first impressions can indeed be misleading. x3

Granted, there are many things about their movie dynamic that I personally would have done very differently, but I’m glad for the unprecedented visibility this franchise has gotten lately and you can be sure there will be a lot more from me still. 😎✨

You know what I think was a missed opportunity in the new Mario movie? (I liked it btw!!) A scene like the one in Disney Tarzan, where Peach is just -amazed- and fascinated in a soft way by Mario because it's the first time she sees another human?? 🥺 And Mario feeling a bit shy under her gaze like "wow, the princess is staring at me, I am feeling quite self-conscious rn but I can't help staring back?? She's so beautiful!"

I can picture her crouching before him, eyes wide with curiosity and wonder, her hands hovering between them.

"You're..." she would trail off distractedly, tilting her head in disbelief. Mario would falter somewhat under the scrutiny, not quite daring to meet her gaze for more than a second at a time. His lifelong insecurities soon resurfacing, he would blink tiredly and lower his head further in a vain attempt to escape the attention.

"...Small? Silly? Funny-looking?" He would supply for her, in a knowing and defeated tone. Already prepared for the inevitable jab, the predictable mockery.

To his surprise however, the Princess would gasp, gently taking one of his hands in hers. "No! You're... You're like me," she would finally say, her voice incredibly sweet, her face impossibly kind. A caring and earnest smile illuminating her features.

Mario could only stare back with muted awe, seized by a fluttering thrill. Having never before experienced an encounter this warm or remotely enchanting before. Lost in the grace and benevolence that she would effortlessly emanate, drawn to her like a moth to a flame. 🦋🕯💞

Happy one year Mario Movie Anniversary everyone! The Mario Movie was a fun time and one of Illumination's best movies aside from their first one (though that isn't saying much).

It's also anniversary of Super Mario Universe, a fan comic that I did not think anybody was going to like or care about. But I was very quickly proven wrong.

You guys have stuck around this far, and while the story is in the 'slow crawl up the roller coaster' phase, once the story starts to get going, I promise it will be a fun action filled, heartwarming, adventure and a tribute to all things Mario.

There’s one thing about the movie I’ve seen a lot of people (including me) agree on: the portrayal of Mario and Luigi’s brotherly bond was amazing.

YES OMG THIS. 💯

The way Mario protects Luigi. The way he's always protected him. The way Luigi cares for him and tries to cheer him up. The way they can't stop worrying about each other. Their whole chemistry as siblings!... It's so beautiful, aurgh! 😭

Their brotherly bond was - by far - the best aspect of the whole story. Hands down, no questions asked. Their adorable love and support for one another made this movie imo. 🥺🙏💞

What was your thoughts on the reunion scene from the Mario Movie?

It was lovely. 🥺💝 A bit short imo, but I'd say it definitely delivered in the emotional aspect, so I'm content. ☺️

Mario's whole body language and intonation in these few seconds is what really sells it for me. The way he hunches in bewildered relief and near delirium from the adrenaline rush after putting him down, only to fiercely throw his arms around him; then gently angles Luigi's head down so he can press his forehead against his, looking earnestly into his eyes, voice wavering and cracking slightly...

But my absolute favorite thing about it is how Mario's love for Luigi overflows to the point where he literally can't contain his exhilaration and starts rocking his bro in his arms before bodily lifting him off the ground in a brief swing. That was beautiful and it felt so very genuine and pure, it made my heart swell. 🥹💞

Happy Anniversary to the Super Mario Bros Movie (2023)!

You got me! I’ve decided on a whim that I’ll write a short story to commemorate this wonderful day. I was partly inspired by this beautiful picture by the artistically talented @itsavee4117 and having heard all of your thoughts and watched some playthroughs related to Princess Peach: Showtime!

This is quite a challenge to me as I don’t usually write short (to my standards anyway). But I hope that you can enjoy this little ditty I came up with after about 4 hours of writing…

Summary: Post Princess Peach: Showtime. Peach uses her newfound culinary skills from her time as a Patissiere in the Sparkle Theater to bake a special treat to commemorate the anniversary of Mario and Luigi’s first day they settled in the Mushroom Kingdom…this is in celebration of the first anniversary of the Super Mario Bros 2023 movie…

Sweet Gratitude and Happiness

Peach looks with satisfaction at the two filled round tins, one slightly bigger than the other. She dusts her hands on her chef’s apron, not minding some little flour clouds land on her red and white checkered skirt underneath it. Her heart swells at how snowy white and creamy smooth the batter appears. She carefully slides the full tins into each shelf of the piping hot oven and sets the timer. She thinks back to her previous attempt at baking and notes that it’s quite an improvement since her odd yet fascinating adventure at the Sparkle Theater. Being a Patissiere for a Sweets Festival has really brought out the full potential of her baking skills she didn’t know she possessed. And she has been so charmed by the costume she wore that she has asked the tailor Toads in the village to help recreate the outfit when she does cook or bake in the royal kitchen.

She momentarily takes off her chef’s hat and fiddles with her plaited ringlets as she sits on a stool to wait for the cakes to be baked. A smile appears on her lips and her eyes sparkle at the thought of her dearest friends, Mario and Luigi. She has never imagined that these two brothers from Brooklyn would bring more colour and cheer to her life and to her Toads, often admiring their loving sibling bond and happily accepting their own friendly affections towards her. Rarely seen apart from each other, she owes them eternal gratitude for their services to help with the castle’s ever complicating plumbing and warping pipe systems, which of the latter took quite some time to get used to for the brothers. It has been several years since their settling and the Toads have fully accepted Mario and Luigi as their own as they did to her as a child. This particular day seems to be extra special since it’s when she gifted them their own cottage to live in and their friendship enabled them to become a valuable part of her life. Thinking of the Toads reminds her of Stella and the Theets…she hums in reminiscence as she recalls her time with these strange yet adorable beings and wonders how they’re doing, thus helping time to pass by…

The scrumptious fragrance of baked vanilla batter makes her mouth water slightly as the timer goes off and Peach pulls on the thick oven gloves over her delicate hands. After letting the steam whoosh out, she giggles with delight at the sight of the tins, baked to perfection, fluffy and golden brown. The princess takes the tins out one by one and placed them expertly on the cake stands ready on standby. With her chef’s hat back on, she takes out the whisk with a smile…now it comes to her favourite part…the decorating!

With an array of strawberries, blueberries, peaches and Yoshi berries along with a large bowl of pink buttercream and colourful fondant to play with, she lets her imagination and a combination of the enchanting memories of the play and her joyous times she shared with Mario and Luigi through the previous years flow through her…up until then she had Luigi’s tutelage in his cooking and baking lessons which helps to kickstart her wanting to create something to make her beloved Toads and her dearest friends happy. Luigi is always patient and kind to her, dispensing knowledge to her and answering every question she asks happily. For some reason, it always makes her happiest when Mario smiles after tasting and says that her food is delicious and almost as good as his brother’s, which sings high praise to her, making her heart swell, sending pleasant shivers down her back and her cheeks warm like Fire Flowers. Now she begins to understand why Luigi is always so chuffed whenever Mario highly praises his cooking, of which she can attest too. She was sure that even with the skills she’s attained from her adventure, she still has a long way to go before matching Luigi’s calibre.

Her fingers seem to be everywhere at once! Spread the whipped cream on top and the sides. Slice the berries finely and delicately. Pipe out the cream into decorative swirls and perfect curls. Shape the fondant into shapes she wants. They were all in a flurry until she finally stops…her breath catches in her throat while she puts down her utensils…it’s a masterpiece!

A pink buttercream two tiered cake stands before her on an ornate stand. Decorated on the layers are colourful arrangements of sliced Yoshi berries, strawberries and peaches fanned out like flower petals and accented with sugared blueberries and piped cream in filigree patterns and crown insignias. Adding the pièce de résistance are the intricately created fondant figurines of Mario and Luigi holding up a golden Super Star. Her eyes soften tenderly as she gazes particularly at little fondant Mario…oh how ocean blue his eyes are…she has really outdone herself at making the right shade…and his hands…she hopes that she has captured the warm thickness of his weathered yet strong digits…and his smile under the moustache…always so warm yet bright and never fails to make her smile back…

She shakes herself out of her reverie when she hears the clock chime. Catching the time, she realises that she just has enough time to wash up, change out of her chef whites and apron and make herself presentable before Mario and Luigi arrive for their usual meeting for tea. This will be a special treat for them…

Pleasantries are exchanged as Mario and Luigi greet her. She looks lovely in a sleeveless pink summer dress with her trademark sapphire brooch gracing her chest and having decided to leave her golden hair in plaited ringlets. Luigi opts for a brief and snug embrace which Peach happily accepts as she pulls the younger man close. Mario reaches out his hand and gently holds one of her hands to rub his thumb over her knuckles before kissing the back of her hand softly. Peach momentarily blushes but manages to regain composure and brings out the cake. She beams at the brothers’ awed expressions.

“Wow, Princess…this cake is beautiful…did you really do all this yourself?” Luigi’s eyes sparkle with amazement and chuckles when she nods shyly, “You should be proud of yourself. That’s a huge improvement!”

“What’s this for, Peach?” Mario questions curiously, his eyes still filled with admiration and awe.

Peach clasps her hands at her lap and taps her fingers against the back of the other…a nervous habit of sorts…and where Mario has kissed it…she can still feel how warm it is…

“Well…it’s to celebrate the day you and your brother first came and started living in the Mushroom Kingdom…I was so happy when you accepted my gift back then. I want to thank you both for all that you both have done for me and my Toads,” she smiles, her sapphire eyes glowing with happiness and sincerity, “I’m glad that you both have become my dearest friends and made me have more purpose and meaning to my life…”

She first turns to Luigi, her smile positively kind, “Luigi, despite your initial reservations, I’m so elated when you made the decision to move here with Mario. I still marvel at your bouts of courage and kindness to others, especially to your brother…it’s because of you that I’ve learned the joy of creation to make someone happy…I may have gotten some more help outside your tutelage but I know I still have a lot to improve upon…so thank you for all the cooking and baking lessons you’ve given me to this day…and for your friendship…”

“Awww….you don’t have to thank me, Peach…I never could have imagined my bro and I would live a life as fulfilling as this…honestly…in spite of my anxieties and fears, I’d go anywhere wherever Mario is and I’m glad I did…because I got to meet you,” Luigi’s eyes are soft as he takes one of her hands in both of his and squeezes gently, “Thank you for being one of my dearest friends too…”

Peach squeezes Luigi’s hands back before turning to Mario. She hides her inner squeals when she sees a pink blush starting to form on his cheeks…it seems to make his eyes radiate even more…

“And Mustache…thank you for being here…I never would’ve imagined that you’d be the one to help save my kingdom and still being able to save your brother. I mean it when I say that the way you never quit astounds me…and it makes me see the you that I’d always want to be with…to be there for you…to support you..and to treasure the bond we forged together, Mario…” her voice grows shyer and she’s pretty sure her blush has returned, considering she is feeling warmer than ever.

But it appears that the sentiments are the same as she hears a nervous sound coming from Mario. He is clearing his throat and his blush is more prominent on his cheeks…

“Princess…it’s because of your trust and belief in me that I’ve come this far…nobody other than Luigi ever thought of my “no quitting” mentality as a good thing…it’s because of you both that I’ve learned that my flaws are also my strengths…Peach…” it’s Mario’s turn to cup her hands in his. She glances at them and her heart swells at how his fingers seem so tender and strong as they grip her like she was made out of fine crystal…they intertwine with her own dainty digits, “Thank you for everything you’ve done to help us settle in your beautiful kingdom and for being so kind to my little brother and seeing him the person the way I do…you’ve become very dear to me and I do hope that we can continue this bond between us…if you let me…”

For her response, Peach leans in and sweetly pecks his heated cheek. He looks at her astounded before his smile turns shy as he kisses her hand again.

The atmosphere they share is comforting and light hearted as Peach suggests they can try the cake, which the brothers enthusiastically agree. Peach watches in anticipation as the brothers dig into their first bite. Her gaze falls particularly on Mario…she tries to not let her nervousness show…but it all melts away into nothing when the red clad plumber smiles with delight alongside his brother who starts a litany of praises as he savours more mouthfuls. She eats her first bite and indeed finds it heavenly delicious. But it must be because the cake she worked so hard to make seems to taste better in the company of the ones she deeply loves and cares for. She giggles under her breath at the way the cream and crumbs stick to Mario’s moustache and frame his lips. But it appears that Mario must have sensitive hearing because he immediately becomes embarrassed and tries to reach for his napkin.

“Here…let me help, Mario…”

Taking her own napkin, she carefully dusts off the crumbs and wipes off the cream dotting the corners of his lips, which was now forming a sweet grin.

“That is really something, Peach…you’re getting really great at baking…” once again, Peach’s heart swells at the praise…if Mario is happy then she is happy. He then turns to Luigi with a bit of mischief in his tone, “I think you’ll have a culinary rival soon enough…”

Luigi rolls his eyes but a smirk is present, knowing the jest behind his big brother’s words. Peach smiles at the light banter starting between the brothers and observes that Mario hasn’t let go of her hand, his thumb continuing to brush against her knuckles. The tender gesture is enough to make her inwardly sigh with affection for the man who proved himself time and time again how precious he is to her…

“Peach?”

The princess sees two empty plates and two expectant gazes.

“Can Luigi and I have seconds, please?”

At this, Peach gives Mario’s hand a tender squeeze back as they separate so that she can gather the plates. Her cake must have been that delicious for them both to want seconds…that’s the best gift a Patissiere can ever receive for all the work she has done. She reaches for the cake knife.

“Of course you can.”

(...granted, it's implied to be with your full team which involves a fluffy cloud teenager, a living doll and Bowser, but it's still right around the time where Peach joins your team ❤)

Mario taking off his cap when standing before Peach is a detail that I often see mentioned to showcase his gallantry towards her, and I couldn't agree more.

But with that said-

Him offering his arm for her to take is something we need to talk about more, PLEASE.

In know that Mario tends to do the protecting out of the two of them but what do you think Luigi would do if he happened to overhear someone bad mouthing his brother?

We know that while Mario is a hero, there probably is ppl that still don’t like him/are jealous of him even if it’s very rare. What do you think he’d do if he happened to hear something like that?

Ooof this made me think of something. >_< 😨 Imagine a scenario where the two brothers and the princess would spend time in a neighboring town during a trip, and while on his way to fetch something near the spot where they are currently resting, Luigi would overhear a conversation from a small group of locals. The sleazy individuals would snicker darkly among themselves, gesturing none-too-subtly towards Mario and Peach and throwing twisted innuendos around. The words spoken would be vile enough on their own to make Luigi gag, but then the main instigator would delve into a graphic rumor depicting Mario as a shameless pervert who's only after one thing, and he would punctuate his soliloquy with an obscene assumption made towards Peach.

That would be a big mistake.

In less time than it would take for anyone to blink, the thug would be flung against the nearest wall with enough force to leave a mark and would find himself pressed harder into it by a vice grip, barely able to breathe. Luigi would hold him there above the ground for a few very tense seconds, his eyes glowing bright green and sparking with electricity.

"Don't you EVER dare speak of my brother or the princess that way," he would rumble through clenched teeth, trembling with wrath, before abruptly releasing him and stepping away. A clear warning. The terrified group would scamper off like bugs, their meal and belongings entirely forgotten.

When Luigi would return to their table, Mario would immediately stand to greet him, inquiring worriedly about his grim expression and the visible tautness in his shoulders. Touched by his innocent concern, Luigi would assure him that all is fine, he's simply feeling a little tired is all, and the day would thus continue as though nothing happened.

One thing about Luigi is that he may look meek and submissive, but that's only when nothing provokes his protective instincts. He can be exceptionally fierce and brave if need be, and will throw himself at any opponent who wishes to harm Mario. To put it simply: the man is not to be underestimated.

Although- that would depend on the context, of course. Luigi knows that his brother is perfectly capable of holding his ground against minor threats and Mario himself would very probably advise him to just ignore any verbal insults thrown his way (as they have both grown very used to that kind of treatment throughout the years when they still lived in Brooklyn), but I have a strong feeling there would be exceptions to that rule; as described above. 🙇‍♀️

I very much agree that Mario's notoriety would attract more than praise and that some envious and pathetic folks would likely try to ridicule him as an empty sort of self-gratification, and depending on the severity of the claim or the grotesque nature of the accusation, I have no doubt that Luigi could and would indeed lose his temper.

Does your Peach have a lil devious or cheeky side to her that one rarely sees? You know, to break out of her princess attitude a bit and blow off a little steam that's bothering her, feel the adrenaline of doing something she's not supposed to even if it's only something small.

I picture Mario just passing by while in the castle and sees Peach sneak into the empty kitchen and steal a bunch of little desserts to munch on in her room or her office, giggling and smiling like a little girl which he ends up finding absolutely adorable. He doesn't tell anyone what he saw but he will never forget it.

Haha well, I doubt that she would ever feel that kind of rush at the castle considering that she has full rein of what happens within its walls. She could do whatever she darn well pleases and no one would bat an eye or less even question her, thus making the endeavor much less thrilling than it would normally be! 😂

But she does definitely have a mischievous side. ;3 One that she rarely - if ever! - has a chance to express or remotely entertain, but which the bros would catch a small glimpse of on some days. A witty remark. A conspiratorial look. A rebellious grin. It would never fail to catch them off guard; amusing Luigi to no end and only making Mario fall harder. The closer they would grow as friends, the more at ease Peach would become with letting this otherwise hidden trait of hers show. While retaining her usual grace and composure, she would also gradually learn to be more spontaneous and loosen up some. 🤭

Do you think that Mario has moments where he still sees Luigi as a little kid? Not so much that he believes Luigi can’t take care of himself but sometimes when there is a hug tense situation and he knows Luigi could get hurt and his protective instincts will flare up, he’ll like blink and suddenly his brother is a kid again, that same kid where he wanted to do anything to prevent him from getting hurt.

It would happen to him quite regularly, and not just in bad or stressful situations!

When he would return home from the castle late in the evening and find Luigi fast asleep, or enter a room to find him happily tinkering at an engine, or happen to see him chatting with others a short distance away, he would often stop to look at him for a brief while. And inevitably, the same vision would manifest in his mind, as clear and felt as though it was real.

There would be times when Luigi would catch him staring with that fond and faraway look in his eyes, and he'd ask him what's up. Mario would never really tell him the cause of it, but deep down, I think Luigi would know. ☺️💚

Damn your Mario's attractive. Idk how else to say this, but he feels like a grown man rather than a mascot. There's just something about him that perfectly captures that vibe. After seeing so many versions where he looks like a plushie, I gotta say yours is very refreshing to look at and it's got me crushing hard lol.

I appreciate the sentiment Anon, thank you! 🫶 Sometimes I worry that my take strays a bit much from his canon self (which, as we know, is very childlike and bubbly), but it's always quite reassuring for me to see that people enjoy the way I portray him. 🤗

Being reminded that Mario is an actual man and not just a gaming icon was the very thing that kickstarted my hyperfixation, actually! That was the realization that singlehandedly brought to life the emotional depth and inner richness I later developed for him, and I couldn't imagine him any differently in my art now. 🥺 As for his sturdiness and added muscle mass, I have talked at length about his strength and my personal headcanons surrounding his physical capabilities before, but- I have to admit that it's also a guilty pleasure of mine. xD 🤭

Speaking of Peach using her healing powers, i have this very angsty scenario where Mario is seriously injured and Peach goes to heal him. Even though she knows that doing so will completely drain her of her energy (or worse), she doesn't care. All she wanted is to save the man she loves.

Mario then wakes up completely healed only to find the woman he loves laying next to him pale and motionless...

Poor Mario had to live the rest of his live in guilt (and grief) thinking he's responsible for the princess's death. Idk how he will deal with that 😔

( Same brain, actually. 🤝 Among the many concepts I've never publicly shared, I remember I had compiled sketches for a very similar scenario and I almost drew it but couldn't bring myself to actually go along with it, so I've reworked the idea along with my personal lore and changed a major element to integrate it into the bigger/overarching plot of my AU. I won't spoil anything, but- If I ever finish and share said scene, I can tell you that it will be the single most epic thing I've ever posted on this channel. ) ✏️

I think we should consider how Mario has fire powers and since you can use fire to cauterize severe wounds

Peach should teach him how to harness his flames into a way for him to heal himself of minor cuts or muscle pain. It would be really cute <3

Huh. Hadn't thought about that! 👀

His Firebrand being so innate to him and so closely linked to his biological system in my version has sort of made me adopt the headcanon that its effects wouldn't quite register as much to him, if at all. I had figured that his own natural warmth is something that he would be able to feel to an extent, but the properties of which would mostly benefit those around him instead. 🔥

But Peach actually teaching him to control it in a way specifically meant for healing is a really nice thought! 🥰 I could very well see this actually happening with these two.^^ Yet another very good reason for them to spend more time together. ;3 💕
