Hello, yes, I am here to discuss real life changes we can make to aid Palestine long term. It’s not a lot, but this is one I’ve made.

I use olive oil to cook. I always have it stocked in my kitchen. Now, instead of just buying it at the grocery store, I get it from Palestine. I may only be a drop in the bucket but with my dollar bill I will actively say, “Palestinian olive oil is the best olive oil. If you burn their olive trees, it does not mean I will buy yours instead. I am a part of the global demand that those trees exist and continue to exist.”

So anyway. That’s a step I’ve taken. It’s a small one, but if ten thousand other feet step in the same direction, then maybe they’ll hear us moving.

The difference here is individual insufferability vs. institutionalized harm.

Is it “just as bad” to sit next to a guy who won’t stop blathering on about how God Is Real as it is to sit next to a guy who won’t stop blathering on about how God Isn’t Real? Do both these people obsess over the wrongness of the other and make little TikTok and Facebook debates where they insult each other for being stupid for believing whatever it is they believe? Are they basically the same people in different flavors?

Yes. They are “just as bad” as one another and they are both individually insufferable, because, hey man, can I just eat my fuckin’ sandwich in peace without you lecturing me about this AGAIN?

But OP is right, only one of these people is aligned with a group that has, historically and currently, held enough power to, oh, I don’t know, burn people at the stake and lobby for restrictions of rights and commit the entire Spanish Inquisition in which we roasted people alive inside of a bronze sculpture of a Bull that made their screams from inside of it sound like a cow mooing (that’s real, it was called the Brazen Bull and the first man to die in one was the man who designed it, look it up).

I’m just saying, politicians are responsible for looking at the big picture. In accepting the responsibility of caring for the institution, they gave up the privilege of basing things in individual insufferability.

A massive pet peeve of mine is when US progressives say shit like “evangelical christians are terrible but so are hardcore atheists”. Like. even if every single atheist was the most insufferable debate bro imaginable, you get how… one of these groups has structural power that they’ve used for more than a century to prop up and direct state violence domestically and imperially. And the other is like. A random subset of normal people that also includes some redditors. These are not equally harmful communities.

And THEN you get a fancy little War Table Mission to get the old gang back together for a little racist revival party by reuniting him with Celene. Isn’t that just neat-fucking-o?

Remember that time when Michel de Chevin partook in the Academie des Chevaliers’ graduation ritual of getting drunk and riding into the slums to slaughter whatever elves they could find? The slums he grew up in as an elf-blooded boy?

And I have like a buttload of other examples but thinking about it just makes me mad so I’m ending it here.

one thing my brain won't let go of is travel time in dragon age. i am by no means an expert on geography or horses or whatever else, i can't make a good estimate of how long it takes to travel between locations, but i would guess it can take a couple of days just to get down the mountain from skyhold, let alone across a continent. and then back again. imagine how much time got eaten going to and from the hissing wastes. so the events of dai definitely take a couple of years at least, whether the official timeline agrees with me or not (i haven't looked. official timelines and i don't get along). but that's whatever, that isn't even what this post is about.

this post is about how in the cullenmance, he takes you to the lake he visited as a kid. in honnleath. the framing makes it look like you just appear there, but realistically, this was a fortnight-long date of cullen and inquisitor travelling to and from his hometown to spend a single night by the lake, and this happens relatively early in the relationship, too.
