Obviously, I hope that everyone in Ukraine stays safe and Ukrainians deserve all of our support right now but I also wanted to say that my heart goes out to all people in Eastern Europe and Central Asia who have been living with the fear of Russian intervention for years and now see their worst fears come true. I see so many posts about how "we shouldn't worry as Westerners because the war will not affect us directly" and while this is absolutely true, I wanted to take a second to acknowledge those who do have to live with the fear that it might affect them directly. I don't have anything more to offer than words and it's not worth much but if you are from Poland, Estonia, Kazakhstan or any other country close to Russia or Ukraine and you are afraid because you don't know what the current events means for the future of your country, I am with you in thought and sending you a warm hug with this post.

Just because some of us our joking doesn't mean it's their place to joke too, and it doesn't give them a pass to be offended when called out on it.

Joking about this is very different when you're in Eastern Europe. We joke too. I've seen people in Ukraine joking. I live in a bordering country, me and my friends make shit jokes, quote old movies, we laugh but it's not for shits and giggles. We joke about our own fear, but even here some take it too far and joke about those who are living our fear. (And honestly, fuck those people)

I'm pretty sure that those who are thousands of kilometers away don't really get it. We're both laughing. But they're not laughing while constantly keeping an eye on the news, and their laughs aren't nervous. They aren't talking about handing out water at the border next weekend, or where the nearest bomb shelter is. They aren't worried about living next to an airport. It feels like they are laughing at someone else's expense, not like they are coping.

They say they understand, that they're scared too, and I will admit that seeing a war happen on social media is scary, but they don't look at the bullet marks left on buildings by the Russians and wonder if there will be more.

I wish the next anon who wants to pick a fight with you on this a very kind fuck off.

I’m fortunate enough to have moved to another country not that long ago, so as long as NATO doesn’t get involved with Russia I can consider myself safe. If however NATO does get involved, I have reasons to fear for my life even here.

But my relatives, my friends, my childhood place, they’re all hanging on a thin string and their safety depends on Putin’s next moves.

These people don’t know how it feels to be worried sick, staying with your phone open every day to check if your country, your people are safe, to worry about your friends in Ukraine wondering if they’re still alive.

It’s a fucking rotten world out there, and there’s nothing to joke about when you’re an American living your best life thousands of km away making jokes about being drafted in a war you have no connection to.

I agree that it’s disturbing to make jokes. But literally no one has made jokes like that. I have hardly seen a single one on any of the social media platforms that I’m on. Like idk why everyone is like the ppl make jokes are awful and shitty and it’s like?? No one is doing that.

-at first he was absolutely against introducing you to his mother. Not because he was afraid that Mitsuki wasn’t going to like you or shit like that, after all if he liked you, then his mother was gonna like you as well, no doubt

- what mortified him was his mother embarrassing him in front of you. He absolutely didn’t want his reputation stained by his mother of all people.

And he really really valued your opinion on him

- his parents kept insisting to bring you to their house, though, and his mother would try to ask about you every single time she called, or whenever he visited

- he caved in, and one morning he just banged on your door, burst in while you were still sleeping, woke you up and legit told you ‘get ready, you’re meeting the hag today’

- now you, on the other hand, didn’t know what to expect. You felt absolutely mortified at the thought of meeting his mother. Lord knows how much it took for Katsuki to finally warm up to you - but his mother? What if she didn’t in fact warm up to you like her son did? Or what if she hated you, and thought you weren’t good enough for Katsuki?

- he noticed you were freaking out on the way to his house, and tried to calm down your nerves by telling you that if his mother was being too much, you two would be out of the door in no time, the hag be damned

- that definitely did not ease your feelings lmao, but at least he tried

- when he knocked you expected a mean looking woman and a meaner man to greet you.

- lol you couldn’t be more wrong

- Masaru was the sweetest man you ever met. You legit had to wonder if he was adopted compared to his other two family members

- but then it was you who also got red in the face when his mother told you that if you had a child with him they would most likely take after Katsuki since her genes were pretty strong

- that was enough to make Katsuki take your hand and walk out of the house despite his mother’s and your protest

- but then Mitsuki asked Kirishima for your number

- Katsuki nearly had a heart attack when he was cuddling you and your phone rang, whining as you answered only to hear his mother’s voice on the other line

- it become a common habit for his mother to call you

- she even texted you sometimes, asking if you ate, if you drank water, if you slept enough

- would send you boomer pics of her and Masaru on vacations, or from her work place, even of the meals she made

- sometimes you’d send her some pics you took and asked her to tell you which one looked best to post

- Katsuki was lowkey jealous of how much time you spent talking to his mother. Like no hun, you need to give him more attention or else he cannot function

- at the end of the day he feels happy that the most important women in his life get along so well

- until family dinner where his mother invited you of course

- had to spend hours at the table listening to you and his mom absolutely roasting the life out of him while his father just nodded his head and gave him a knowing look

- but he loves you both too much to actually complain that often

Unpopular opinion but viewsers (mostly north american ones) should treat the “cultural appreciation” subject when it comes to Eastern European countries the same way they treat Asian, South American and African culture. 

Because I am tired of seeing people from Easter European countries being portrait as whores, assassins, spies, drunk people and thiefs. 

I am tired of using vampires as a tool to make one alone and depressed teenager feel like she’s being loved. 

I am tired of seeing our legends and myths mocked.

I am tired of seeing our languages ignored and mocked with stupid fake accents.

I am tired of creators “makeing up” languages just because they are too ignorant to hire someone who speaks Russian/Romanian/Bulgarian/Czech etc.
