grasshoppers are basically BUILT to be picked up like this I think. that is their sole purpose... to be grabbable....
i'm a hazard i'm a menace i'm a threat. bugs i caught in the 10-minute break between classes. 4 short-winged green grasshoppers (the solid green ones are female but i'm not certain on the brown ones) a ground cricket & a ground beetle that i'm 95% sure is subgenus Pseudoophonus but i couldn't tell you the species. probably just a strawberry seed beetle. yippee!

not really! copy pasting one of my previous reblogs because people keep saying it, but:
tiger moth caterpillars are one of the few fuzzy caterpillars that are entirely safe to handle. no poison/venom in their hairs!(...unless you're allergic! in which case if the hairs poke you the wrong way, they will set off a histamine reaction and you will be itchy. carpet beetle larva hairs can also do this!)
so they can hurt a little to someone who's allergic, but even then they'll still hurt a whole lot less than most other fuzzy caterpillars.
