PayPal has shut down fundraising services as of October 7th, 2024.
The crowdfunding platform has updated their policy and stated the following:
My dear friends Iyad Sohbe (@iyadsobhegaza) and Ruba Abushaban (@rubashsblog) have been raising funds with PayPal soon after GFM have unjustly terminated their individual accounts. Iyad has lost 11K while Ruba has lost access to 27K!
With this "policy" in place, it is obvious that Palestinian fundraisers are being targeted as it is established on the one year anniversary of the accelerated genocide. So it is imperative that we help them achieve their goal of 60K USD before January 12th, 2025!
So please donate and share. Time is running out. We have 3 months to raise the entire amount!
At the same time, Iyad, Ruba, and their families have gone through so much. They were staying in Deir al-Balah, but the IOF drops multiple airstrikes, and they have narrowly escaped death and have relocated to Nuseirat. So they need to purchase basic necessities as they have lost their personal belongings. They also need to pay off the high transfer fees when they withdraw the funds from the bank.
You can even match me! I've given $10 USD, but you are more than welcome to give any amount. You can even give $1 since PayPal accepts such amount.
Verification: #90 for Ruba and #173 for Iyad. (Keep in mind that the fundraisers in the Spreadsheet has not been updated to reflect the current fundraiser. Click here to read more about it.)
Tagging for reach. Please leave a reply if you wish to be removed. Thank you. Free Palestine.

Morning hot take, but I can solve all questions regarding why there are more male centered media in fandom than female centered.
For a lot of people, female characters are not safe to project onto, because they have to deal with misogyny.
Anyone who presents feminine will be held under an additional level of scrutiny due to expectations of how a woman should and shouldn’t act. And I believe a startling majority of fandom turn to these spaces as an escape from misogyny – so much so that they are averse to female characters.
Now, imagine you are someone who really wants to see their own complexity reflected in a character, but you feel guilty expressing that side of yourself. But on the other hand you are DYING to indulge in it.
You encounter a problematic female character who is acting outside of prescribed lines of behavior for a woman. And let’s put it this way: if you were punished for holding a pencil a certain way, learned not to do so, and accepted that this new way is the "right" way, then you will end up looking down on others who hold pencils the "wrong" way. That’s what’s going on here. You end up ambivalent because you are simultaneously averse to it, but also unaware that you repress the same inclination.
You waffle between “she should talk a little nicer” vs “she was right in that instance,” and end up just not touching the character at all. You don’t know what to feel about her, so nothing about her jumps out to you. Other than the fact she is unpleasant and perhaps something about her makes you feel unpleasant. Not fun is it?
Now imagine you encounter a male character with some problematic tendencies. You can feel free to discuss at length those characteristics with a fine-tooth comb without the immediate aura of needing to condemn him. Because that response is not baked into you. It’s not conditioned into you. Or to anyone. Eventually fandom will point out this character’s dark moral standing, but it’s not what you latch on to first. Instead, you find the reflection you were looking for. He did this that and the other, but maybe he did it for this reason or that reason. All that energy you were DYING to indulge in just pours out from you. You and others like you have so much energy that it comes to dominate the fandom. (Perhaps it’s a more prevalent experience than you thought…) You feel it in your bones. Something about him makes you feel seen. You relate to him
You are projecting.
Projection and telling stories in our own voices is the point of storytelling and fandom. But while we still live in a misogynistic world, many, if not most fans will not engage with fandom at a point where they have confronted their internalized misogyny.
And let me be clear: internalized misogyny isn’t active hatred towards women. It’s never becoming aware of and questioning societal conditioning that tells you to jump immediately to scrutinize a woman. You've internalized the messages of misogyny.
In fact – you may think you are simply pointing out a demonstrably evident moral failing that anyone should be condemned for. But why was that the first thing that stood out to you about her? Are you absolutely sure this female character was intended as a metaphor for evil incarnate and possesses no human characteristics or motivations for those actions? She too did this that and the other, but maybe she also did it for this reason or that reason. Why have you not immediately pointed out the demonstrably evident moral failings of male characters or fixated on it as much? Due to misogyny, female characters become intellectual scapegoats for “what not to do” rather than characters with stories in and of themselves.
Internalized misogyny sees women as the villains of stories they weren't even a part of. And villains of stories conjured in headcanons to justify male characterization that was never even present in the source material.
When you are not aware, you don’t even realize your conditioning. That’s what unpacking means to confront.
I make this post really for the rest of us who love and project ourselves onto the women in the media we love. You can never force someone to check their biases. You can't even force someone to think about it for five seconds. One day they have to collide with the reality of their actions on their own, and most likely, offline.
We will always be niche in fandoms that do not have an all women cast (even if there is just one man on the cast or the men are the minority, they will still become fandom’s darling child due to what I’ve outlined above). This post is to give a name to what we observe daily in fandom. To identify it and disregard it as we enjoy our problematic female characters with only a handful of positive fanfic and fanart in existence. You are simply doing the same thing they are doing with their male blorbos. Projecting. Indulging. Don’t let them hamper the fun. And most importantly, don’t allow them to not let you be seen.
