HIII, new kid in F1blr here. I, uh, I watched DtS and the last six races and I've been binge watching old interviews and getting to know all the tea sooooo why so many people dislike Ocon? I mean, he was so sweet in DtS and he has those bambi eyes, why do people dislike him? :( I'm sorry if this is random, but it's hard to keep up with the f1 blogs in here when it comes to this kind of stuff. I know he has beef with Gasly, but what else did he do for people to openly dislike him? :(

Hey ho! I have been inactive for very long on f1blr and rarely come back, but I'm happy to answer with what I know.

I think people mostly dislike him bc in the 2018 season he was crashing a lot and causing a bit of trouble for drivers who were way higher up in the points so he kinda got this "troublesome guy" image if you know what I mean, for example he once crashed with Verstappen when he was the race leader and Esteban was behind a whole lap, that move especially made a lot of people dislike him (and I agree that that was a stupid and unnecessary move but hating the whole guy for that? dunno) He didn't have a seat for 2019 and I think that had to do a lot with his actions like that in 2018. He sometimes still has sort of "aggressive" moves, which does not sit well with everyone, but he has certainly improved in my opinion.

I don't really know much about the personal dramas nowadays tbh so I can't comment on his beef with Gasly or anyone else, I don't really follow news like that

But I think Esteban is a very talented driver, he and his family fought a lot for him to be able to race so I truly respect that and I think he is a great guy (although I don't know him personally so ofc I have no idea about his irl personality), I've been his fan since the beginnings and I still support him to this day, but it is always important to recognize when your fav makes a mistake I think

The biggest anime betrayal of this year is broadcast not showing Esteban and Valtteri’s fight in the last two laps and me having to wait for those tiny ass numbers to show their difference ONLY TO SEE THAT ESTEBAN LOST 3RD PLACE IN THE DAMN LAST SECOND

i know Esteban isn’t the fan favorite or whatever but his parents literally sold their house and lived with him in a caravan to pay for his karting career when he was younger. they didn’t even have a car because they wanted Esteban to follow his dreams, like… there are just no words to describe how special this is. this is absolutely incredible and he deserves this so much

Today was an important moment for me and all the people out there who are working for and hoping for change. For a more equal and just society. I may get criticism in the media and elsewhere, but this fight is about equality, not politics or promotion. To me it was an emotional and poignant chapter in the progress of making F1 a more diverse and inclusive sport. I want a better future for our generation and the ones after us. There is so much that needs to be done. No one is perfect but if we all chip in and do our part, we can see change. I truly believe that.
