Yesterday, my uncle, a journalist who broadcasts news from Gaza, was on his way to work and was targeted by the damned occupation air force.

I just don't think that there's this big majority of happy "neurotypicals" who aren't at all bothered by working a crappy full-time job just to barely afford a room in a shitty apartment in a world that gets scarier by the day and doesn't leave much time OR money for either connection, rest, self care or hobbies. Like I think that's a myth we are being sold to shame us into acting like we're fine too actually for as long as we possibly can

Sometimes there isn’t a clear-cut villain in our stories.
Sometimes the people who hurt us were children themselves.
Sometimes they were repeating cycles they never had the tools to break.
Sometimes they didn’t even realize they were causing harm.
And that can make things complicated.
It can leave us confused about where to place our anger or whether we’re even allowed to feel it at all.
But I want to say this:
You are valid.
Your pain is valid.
You are still allowed to be angry.
You don’t have to forgive them.
You don’t have to let them back into your life.
You’re allowed to protect your peace even if the story isn’t black and white. Even if the villain isn’t a clear cut villain. It doesn’t change the effects their actions had on you.

so my dad's car insurance called me today and was like hey we're trying to get a hold of this dude and found your name and thought y'all might be related (i have an incredibly uncommon surname). so I was like yeah that's my dad. can you tell me what he did this time
and i could tell she wasn't supposed to tell me, but heard the absolute exasperation in my voice and just knew i was his child. she described that there was "a fender bender, and an altercation, in a restaurant parking lot" and that his lawyer was trying to get a hold of him to tell him his court summons had been waived
my parents own a restaurant so I figured it was their parking lot but upon asking my mom i have learned

it was a burger king parking lot. he physically fought a guy in a rural pennsylvania burger king parking lot. love and light ☀️
#i read all this#see 'rural Pennsylvania'#internally think 'this is either pennsyltucky or ohio border shit'#see that the guy willingly called himself white trash#'ah. pennsyltucky.'#'probably near the appalachian mountain trails'

It’s wild to me to see transvestigator conspiracy theories online that could be so easily explained by natural human variation. That woman has a deep voice? Yeah, sometimes they do. A woman has broad shoulders?? Maybe she plays rugby or hits the gym a fuckton. There’s a “bulge” in her tight pants?? Maybe her vulva is just fat. All the “markers” of trans woman that transvestigators use to harass any woman aren’t even things unique to trans women.

Do you ever interact with someone and you realize “this person has never had to consider or think about what their place in the world is, and why they believe certain things or act certain ways, this person has never considered society at length” and it’s just terrifying

Really hate how much time I am being forced to spend begging everyone around me to call their elected officials so I can maybe keep my job + so my lab won’t be shut down in October + so my entire professional network won’t be laid off + so the Great Lakes won’t go back to being a poisoned dead zone of industrial sludge/dead fish/toxic algal blooms. I would rather be spending all this time doing actual, you know, science, rather than pleading for people to make phone calls to try to stop the deliberate strangulation of environmental research across this damn country. It’s humiliating! It’s nightmarish! And yet here we are!
Anyway, I am once again asking you to call your reps if you care about accurate life-saving weather forecasts, clean drinking water, having fish you can eat, climate change, and more, because the people who work on these issues — including me and my peers — cannot survive this without your help.

Anyway — once again if you claim to be an anti-racist white person you do very explicitly have to care about the struggles and humanity of non-white men.
In a world that constantly dehumanizes people of color, you have to remember that men of color ARE ALSO PEOPLE.
You can willfully misinterpret this by saying "Well men are already considered the Most People because of the patriarchy" but are non-white men REALLY treated that way?
When a Black man is murdered by the police is he being treated like a person? Like human being whose life holds value? When an undocumented Hispanic man is being used for effectively slave labor on a corporate farm in the United States is he being treated like a person? Like a human being deserving of his personhood?
I could go on but like — the point is if you are a white person who dehumanizes non-white men in the name of feminism you're just reinforcing systemic white supremacy. That is racist dogshit activism that feminists of color have been calling out for decades.
You're not doing anything visionary or productive by dehumanizing non-white men in the name of feminist action. You are just racist and upholding the longstanding history of racism in the feminist movement.

I'll write more about it when I finish this last series, but man, I feel like I caused Anthony Bourdain's suicide retroactively with how much I've been yelling at the screen watching all his travel show episodes. I'm watching one of his Cuba episodes and its just too painful to shut up about it until then.
He is constantly, weirdly gratuitously anti-communist (even for an american tv show!), while basically every episode identifying Capitalism as the thing destroying countries, cultures, and the environment. You will never, ever hear him name Capitalism except to praise it in the context of Las Vegas or Macau being good places to exist, for some reason. A direct quote about kinda old, but otherwise normal-looking flats in Santiago de Cuba (looking much better than housing in for example detroitwhich he also visited):
"These brutalist pre-fab workers housing complexes are everywhere here, and at first glance, hell, at second glance, they look like something you'd house animals in".
He goes on to tell that people lived in shanties before these flats were built, and that the building complexes each have a doctor and a school, included for free, but voiced like its something bad. He goes on to refuse to acknowledge that the US blockade might have an influence on the amount of money the government has to spend on the upkeep of these neighbourhoods. Any economic problems are in fact kind of insinuated to be caused by Fidel Castro personally. He really exemplifies the Upton Sinclair quote: "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it". Still theyre fun food/travel shows and background noise, if you can bear the really really painful parts.
