one of my favorite things about theater is that you can change the setting and utterly transform a classic work. The Much Ado about Nothing with a Stacy Abrams 2020 banner? The Appalachian Romeo & Juliet post that just crossed my dash? Richard III in early 20th century Europe? The same story, the same words, but in a new light. Things you didn't realize before; characters with different depths, new jokes, new sorrows.
O and I have been doing a deep dive on Lionel Bart's Oliver! lately, and I would pay so much money for a version that moves the main action from London to San Francisco. The Dodger is begging to be interpreted by someone absolutely flaming.
"Consider Yourself"? That classic tune about finding a family? And the newest member of that family not realizing that he's fallen in with a bunch of deviants, just that they're the first to welcome him with kind words and warm food?
Nancy doesn't have to be a cis girl to be "goddess of the virtues," and Mr. Brownlow doesn't have to be straight to want to share his wealth. But he can be--his daughter ran away, too, after all.
It'd have to be a careful interpretation, considering how everything ends, but I think if you were very skilled, you could hit the balance just right: the tragedy and the joy, the melodrama and the humanity.
I am DESPERATE for this.
#tbh i am and have always been here for any Oliver#ever since my parents rightly or wrongly assumed it would be a good movie to rent for a preteen sleepover#and if I had any possible way to bring this to fruition--even badly--I would#but my main mediums are words and toy photoshoots with the occasional picspam#and I don't think I could pull off queer musical theater in plastic still lifes#however much fun I had doing lesbian much ado about nothing as performed by lego Agents of SHIELD#so. here we are.#oliver!#oliver twist

the nineties and the early aughts television landscape really was defined by long deployment of "will they won't they" dynamics people these days would not be able to handle network television writers' rooms teasing ships for multiple years only to more often than not be given the answer "they will not. <3 hope this helps"

The problem with being a Star Wars fan who actually reads the books is not every Star Wars book is good. Like some of them are really great but some of them are really boring and a chore to get through. Like normally if you're not into a book you can just not finish it but if it's a Star Wars book you feel obligated to finish it if for no other reason than to build your nerd cred. Like fandom homework.
#PLANET OF TWILIGHT#obvs i had to get it with birthday money#because princess leia featured prominently in BOTH the cover AND blurb#but not one I've ever wanted to pick up again#a) the foray into very realistic then-future problems (video deepfakes of top government officials)#which were somehow never a problem at any other point in the universe#b) the (force-sensitive??) bugs that blorbed together bigger and bigger#c) whatever else I have blocked out#star wars#eu

i am ridiculously fond of the fact that no amount of jedi training and meditation will ever stop mara jade from going covert guerrilla assassin mode at the drop of the hat and she tells nothing and no one about doing it she will see something suspicious and immediately slip back into that keen eyed blinders on tactician and come back days later with someone in handcuffs or incapacitated or dead like a dog with a bird in her teeth and luke will look at her very exasperatedly one of the characters ever

You run a Bakery, just a normal bakery, the only problem is that your customers at midnight to 6AM are mythical creatures who pay with gemstones and ancient gold and silver coins
#compelling but I also have SO many logistical questions#like on an staffing and scheduling side#WHO is working the oven right now? or is your front of house and back of house the same person?

Aren't you worried about what we're gonna have to tell people? All of the lies we will have to memorize and be on the exact same page about? Everything we've done out here, what happened to Jackie, and Javi, and... No matter what, we can't trust the scientists. Oh, shit. We're gonna have to kill them, Van. And even then, someone could slip up when we get home, and then everyone would know what we did, and I don't know what would happen, but it wouldn't be good for us. Our futures would be fucked. This will follow us for the rest of our lives. This place will follow us for the rest of our fucking lives. Why is no one thinking about this?
YELLOWJACKETS, 3x08 "A Normal, Boring Life"

No matter how lost you feel, all you need to find is the next right step.
Not only that, but being on the right path often FEELS better and more natural - even if it's more work.
So you're only a step away from a process under which you'll thrive.
The best news: there are multiple right steps that can work for you.
There are many different paths to happiness you can take.
If you feel like you took a wrong turn, you can always try another path.
Have a beautiful day!
