i'll defend fanfic for my whole life. like the joy it brings is genuinely transformative and indulgent in a way unique to the genre. it isn't meant for a market, it isn't meant to be sold or marketed. it is born out of such care and passion for a media that one must write and must share it, so other folks can enjoy it to. for no other reason than love and joy. do you know how special that is? especially in our current social and political climate.

funniest thing about the sambucky ship is it’s not even far-fetched we actually have like a lot to work with on the canon front
the therapy scene? rolling down the hill? fixing the boat? the shield training scene? sam spending two years searching for bucky? bucky showing up when sam needed him? the “i love you”?!?!?! good lord we really are well-fed in regards to some of the other mcu ships

Honestly Sam and Bucky’s journey in TFATWS goes from disdain to love because they spent the first part of it trying to see Steve in each other, and in turn resented each other when they didn’t succeed.
Bucky wanted to find Steve in the new Captain America. Sam wanted to find Steve in the 1940s super soldier. Neither of them succeeded and that bothered them. They wanted to replace what they lost.
‘Steve had a plan’
‘Steve adored Marvin Gaye’
Then as the episodes progress, they’re able to see each other as individual people (shock) for the first time properly and are able to realise like ‘hey, this guy isn’t Steve, but maybe he’s something else that’s amazing’.
Bucky realised that as a black man, Sam’s experience on this planet shaped him differently to how they shaped a blonde haired, blue eyed Steve and he has to be so much more careful in becoming Captain America. Sam realised that Bucky never wanted the life he had like Steve did, and power and the life of a hero was forced upon him without his consent so he would never be the bright eyed, happy to learn/embrace anything man that Steve was and that’s okay. They both finally saw each other in that show.

imagine it’s the end of thunderbolts* and bucky just like casually comes home and it’s just like ur typical come home late hang up the coat scenario, bucky turns on the light and sam is just sitting at the counter. eating cereal or some shit. “how was your day” “shut the fuck up”
casually living together and we don’t even get to know until the end of the damn movie? oh it’s evil it’s amazing i hate it and i love it

it probably would never happen but i want sambucky to be canon not only because it would makes sense and it would be nice for them to be happy together and representation or whatever but mostly because it would be the funniest shit in the world. and for so many reasons. people are already racist and shitty about sam, can you imagine if he kissed a man. and can you imagine that man being basically everyone's favorite character in the current mcu. can you imagine how fucking elated sebastian "i want to recreate every rom com with you" stan and anthony "your personality would make a grown man smile" "pow pow pow" mackie would be if they got to get gay married. remember how they met by him trying to shoot him through the roof of a car and then ripping the steering wheel through the windshield. meet-cute of the century.

I know sambucky is never going to be canon but I hope they have the uncle who brings his "roommate" to every family function vibe going on forever
