Who are the victims of sexism??

This selection is about how sexism is still going on worldwide. Though many people feel as though women are making things more than what they really are. Some feel as though the real victims are possibly the opposite sex. Even though getting equality for women has been in effect for some time now. Sexism still lives on to be a humongous issue across the world that strongly affects women the most.

I have some of the same qualifications!

There are a lot of job opportunities that women apply for but don't get the same treatment as a male. A couple viewpoints made by Andrea C. Poe were to take the military for example “though trained and ranked like men, women are legally banned from performing the highest and most honorable duties required of a soldier~the right to fight” (Poe 1). Another is even in the household there is sexism “little girls still wake up on Christmas morning to find dress-up dolls, makeup kits, and kitchen sets while their brothers unwrap dinosaurs, race cars, and adventure books” (Poe 1). Why can’t a young boy wake up to a kitchen set and a girl get a race car? Even amongst sports such as football it is a male sport as people know but why can’t a woman play, they are qualified because if a woman can turn out to be a bodybuilder it does not seem impossible. 

In society today these things are being challenged by celebrities such as Jaden Smith who says “he doesn't see a difference between clothes for men and women” (Jacobs 3). If a women were to wear a guy's clothes then she would be judged but not as harshly as a man if he wore females clothing. Guys and females both have grown to have certain ideas just drilled into their heads and they don’t even have a true explanation for the purpose of their decisions. 

Men are victims too? 

Guys have been placed in the position of having to always do the hard jobs because they are supposed to be strong. It is mentioned “six times as many boys as girls commit suicide. In 1922, fully 4,044 young males (ages 15 to 24) killed themselves. Among same age females, there were 649 suicides....it is boys who turn out to be on the fragile side” (Pipher 2) making the stereotype questionable because females are usually described as fragile. Even in the workplace men are more so forced to work, work, work opposed to females because they have children to raise and that is taken into consideration among the workplace. A comment was made that “women are the freest in the world. Anyone who doesn't see this lacks common sense” (Sommers 3) but if this were so true then women would not be held back from doing things men are allowed such as in the past being able to vote, in other countries getting an education, getting paid the higher amounts, being able to do obstacles within job/higher level jobs and the list goes on. This is obviously a mans world that needs to be changed in order for both male and females to be benefited.

“Know your place women”

According to social media and broadcast, the message given out often is that a women's place is in the house but if God did not come and state this himself how is someone suppose to believe that? There is no proof of the fact that women must do a certain duty. It has gone on long enough for men to sugar coat that idea in a sense of having power over women. In the book “Things Fall Apart” there was a strong man named Okonkwo with many wives and one night, one of his wives was out getting her hair braided and he found out about it and waited until she returned home to criticize her and abuse her because she wasn’t home doing her duty of taking care of her child and making his food. Why can’t a man of his title make his own food for a living and provide the women with a break from tending to his hand and foot? Men are trying to set a place for women that is below them in power. 

We have not come far at all from how things used to be, where a woman was not even allowed to vote until the 19th amendment was put in place. Though it has been said “the U.S Department of Education keeps records of male and female school achievement. They reveal girls get better grades than boys” (Sommers 1) but by knowing that wouldn’t you think the power comes from the person with more brains? Men are supposed to be stronger than women, while women are supposed to be fragile but the brain is the strongest tool in the body and these standards of what a woman can and can’t do, deprive women from actually using it to realize that there is no specific place for them and they can do as they please. By depriving them in some areas, females are not even allowed to go to school and get an education opposed to males.

Maybe... both sides

There are still questions about who has it worse because in some ways the men feel as though this topic actually affects them while females feel that it hits them harder. Now both sides show sexism but is it really the women's fault that they express their concerns on it more vivid than men. Why is it though that if both sides feel victimized by sexism then why can’t they work together in clearing each other out of that feeling. By doing that it could lead to both sexes coming together and actually making a change in this. Yet no signs of that have actually been shown upon the nation, instead, they are going back and forth against each other.

Families in society

This treatment towards women is not only affecting the women but their families. “Women’s own sexism affects not only their children but is persuasive throughout the culture” (Poe 2). The decisions we make today only affect the future generations more so because they are left in the midst of things as they grow trying to fix the messes left behind. The young girls are dragged into a world where they are being told what a women's place is supposed to be and still are not getting the same respect and compensation as a man. It can even break apart families, for example, “witness the typical wedding or baby shower. Though it takes both sexes to marry and become pregnant, these parties are thrown for women by women almost exclusively" (Poe 2). That is basically breaking the unity in that family and in the long children are hurt by the effects of the family no longer feeling whole.

Alternative 

There is no alternative to this matter because people feel the way they feel and there is usually nothing that is able to stop fueling this fire but the end of sexism. Neither sexes are even taking the time to come together and hear each other to help get through this issue because as soon as something is said then it automatically dismissed. it has been said that the key to ending the inequality is possibly feminism. After so many signs it has been made clear that at the rate things are going “feminism is still needed” (Poe 1). A feminist is a strong woman who doesn’t need to rely on a man or better yet they don’t even need a man because they can do everything a man can do for themselves except pleasure. Some may see feminist as nasty tough twisters, people that turn the truth into a story tale that only benefits themselves but they are basically woman activist, people that want equality. For example, within a marriage alliance, you would think the women is supposed to take the males name but no they have the right to keep their name and hyphenate it but some feel that it is offensive for women to not take her husband's name. Why does the woman have to change her name? These ideas seem to have been brainwashed into one's head. WAKE UP!!

Women deserve better treatment compared to what they are receiving. Over time things have gotten better because of the 19th amendment but that's about it because still after that there have still been problems among the world involving sexism. Feminist have a way of pointing out the obvious on the fact that women are victims in an unjust world and are fixated on persuading that point because that's what they do. So if more woman were to come amongst the people together and take a stand then action towards the same rights as men could be made possible because teamwork makes the dream work. That would cause more people to hear their views and then their message could be relayed on so that someone of real importance in actually making a change could actually take into consideration what is being said. IT IS ABOUT TIME FOR CHANGE!
