Fairytail Pride Month gift for @chaotickori . Very sorry for this being late truly and thank you for the patience. And that I've been having trouble accessing my ao3 for days now so I'm posting it in tumblr first before I can post it in ao3 hopefully within 2-3 days. But I hope you enjoy it here still...

As a markswoman, Bisca takes a lot of pride in her eyes.

More than just a livelihood; to see ever so far and recognize her targets and their weak spots has been both a hobby and a routine of hers since she trained how to hold a gun. The exceptional skills are widely known that many hailed her eyes as sharper than the most dangerous magic predatory bird or even the magic beasts that hunted in restricted thick forests of Fiore.

She carries herself with the same respect when it comes to her eyes on people.

Her observational acumen of others, for Bisca, is only a few steps lacking from the level of Mirajane and Erza that she considers at the top in this department. And fairytail being the loud outrageous and rowdy guild that it is, there really isn't much to read about what most people are thinking… on the surface anyway. There is in fact one guild member in particular who's even sharper in evading being read…

Now with their friends back from what they almost cemented as death, their downgraded home finds its usual clamor. And Bisca's attention fixates on the bikini-topped woman hugging an entire barrel of beer.

With every one chug and sigh from Cana, memories that Bisca never buried in the seven years that passed pervades her mind… that of the woman drinking herself to waste everytime November comes. To lose herself, no not in celebration or joy like they've been doing for two days now, but from the bottomless cold and emptiness that Bisca tries to reach out to but was always pushed out from. Despite what they have. Had?

But at least now they do know what it was. When Gildarts announced it on their return, everything clicked into place for her. All the little truths in drunk conversations that everyone, and even Bisca, misses out on. All the drunk-pretends that Cana does to avoid personal questions. All the little glances with a trail of sadness over the other members’ way whenever they're around Gildarts. Everything.

And now everyone sees the unburdened Cana. Unveiled. More importantly, back in one piece when they don't think they can ever see her again.

And Bisca should be happy about it.

And she is. She's happy to see her smiles and snarks again. She couldn't ask for anything more.

And yet.

Bisca feels a tight squeeze on her hand. Automatically, her gaze sets on her husband, Alzack. His warm smile meets her anxious own.

“Let's do it together after.”

Bisca nods.

Of course Alzack knows. He's always been able to see her as much as she sees others. He knows what's running in her mind; they've gone by them– their different relationship yet similar feelings with Cana– multiple times in her seven-year absence. Through the pain, the regret, the grief, their own marriage… In everything that they've done together, the thought of Cana and the what-ifs and how they could have enjoyed time with her… She pervades almost every space of their life together positively and even mournfully.

Even now as the party ends in another group blackout and with Bisca and Alzack on the way to take the sleeping Asuka on her arms back to their home, she persists in Bisca's mind.

“You don't have a place to go, do you?”

Alzack's voice puts her right back to reality and what she sees right at where he's crouching down, hand extending to is none other than Cana.

Bisca holds her breath in shock. When he says after, Bisca has expected after a few days. She doesn't think he means later tonight. Is it something that she's even ready to talk about?

However, already given the opportunity, she can only hold her toddler close. Waiting.

“Haha! You've gotten real confident, have ya, Alzy?! Look at you asking me on a date!!”

Bisca feels her anxiety slowly crawling back inside her from Cana's usual antics. She snorts as she remembers who her husband was seven years back and what has taken them both to do to get to this point.

Bisca doesn't miss the glance that came her way… once again, she wonders if she's truthfully drunk…

“It’s not like that… well,” Alzack gives a look to her wife that she returns with a nod. “Just offering a place to crash?”

“You turned into a real dangerous man, Alz. Inviting a drunk woman to your house…”

“Dangerous couple. Don’t forget to count me.” The tone that Bisca conjures is more somber than she wanted. She peeks at Cana's clear eyes that Bisca is sure did not have the usual fog when she's not sober. Determination burns within her. “For you, Cana–”

“Yeah. I'll go.”

The abrupt and serious answer catches the married couple off guard.

“But my breakfast’ on you, ‘kay?” Cana rises from the floor, less groggy than how she usually is. With a smile on her, she starts the walk outside the doors.

Alzack gestures to take Asuka off Bisca's arms as he points at Cana with his shoulder. “Does she even know where we live?”

Bisca snickers and runs towards the staggering card mage to hold her waist. “Wow. Exactly the same.”

Cana makes a bolder hold of Bisca, smiling with her breath touching her face. “Meanwhile, you've gotten A LOT hotter.”

Bumping their hips together at the continuous playful exchange, the two finally stumble and almost fall before catching each other; earning a fat laugh from Alzack who's only lagging a few steps behind.

The three make their merry walk along the cold 4am air with loud laughter and liquor-influenced banters that makes every morning people they pass give them a prying look before going about their business.

For a moment, it feels like no time has passed at all. Like it's always been like this. Like the spaces of the entire seven years have always been filled.

For a moment.

At least a moment before they reach the Connell's home.

It's right there, Bisca thinks as the damp air of the humble abode touches her face as they enter. She peers at the closed room that is now filled with abandoned baby gears and clothes. That was the room they preserved for her. Initially.

They've always had faith that their friends from Tenroujima would be back. Not sure on the how but they've always known how to throw a miracle or two. The decision for a two-bedroom home was made from them together agreeing to let Cana a place to stay (even if not all the time) with the two together on one… or they can all take one together. It wasn't a solid plan, per se. And with their shared income they can find a bigger house eventually if there's ever any little ones to expect after.

For a few years, to the people that were left in the guild, hope became a limited supply. So did their income. So, the room for her became a nursery and a stockroom. That at some point the couple had also seen as a future room for Asuka.

Bisca is stolen again from her reverie but by Cana this time. Impressed, she whistles at their small yet presentable house. Alzack comes out of their room right after settling Asuka in her own small bed in their shared room.

“Not bad,” she says as she criss-crosses her legs on the rough sofa. The red on her face seemingly more tamed than earlier and Alzack gives her a toothy smile that makes her tilt her head.

“He's really a lot different, isn't he?” Cana asks Bisca while the man she's pointing at is standing in front of them. “Really a lot seven years can do…” The two pick up on the hint of sadness and a bit of regret.

“Hardly anybody's fault.” Alzack pats her shoulder as he settles on her right on the sofa as Bisca does the same on her other side. Her hand on Cana's knees in comfort.

Cana looks at the floor for a short moment. The quiet stirs the air in the room as she seems to be looking for words to say on the worn out carpet. “That was just last week to me…”

Bisca's and Alzack's gazes settle on her as she continues to examine the ground.

“You,” she points at Bisca, “begging me to wear the jacket you gave me if I'm going to drink away somewhere out.” Cana's lips turn up a bit at a worried Bisca's face before facing Alzack. “And you, always always trying to find which pub I dropped my cards in.” She smacks her lips disapprovingly, in large contrast with the soft tone that follows it. “Can never just… leave me out there alone, can you…?”

With downturned eyes, Cana smiles and she goes back to looking at the floor. And the two share a look. Cana probably feels the smile that they share as they both look at her since her own becomes full. “I'm sorry… for never telling.”

This time, Alzack gives Bisca a large grin that she returns in full. She knows exactly what he's thinking.

As the two open their arms in sync while she stays sitting in the middle, Cana jumps at her place. “What?!” With no time to think about her next move, she's at the mercy of the huge twin trap hug that squeezes the breath out of her.

“Hey–!” Cana's body relaxes from the weight of her own body. And starts laughing. Boisterous and full.

Alzack cackles with her next as he leans his body closer to both her and Bisca, holding them both warmly while Bisca tightens her hug and cranes her head on Cana's neck and joins in with the tearful laughter… that turns into full sobs… and back to laughing.

There, from the weary days and with the drinks that they had, the three fall on a pile of limbs and make themselves comfortable in an inconvenient place.

There within the smiles, sadness, and laughter, everyone makes a silent agreement that whatever that they are willing to build up from what was left before, they're willing to give it time and patience.
