Not to say that AOC is perfect and can do no wrong, she's human and she will make mistakes. To deify her and put her on a pedestal is a form of dehumanization as well.
But, I just want to call out how, even within leftist spaces, women of colour are still subjected to harsher scrutiny compared to their white male counterparts. Like, you don't see as much pple vocally criticising Bernie Sanders even when he does the same things that AOC got criticized for? And there was the coalition of Bernie Bros who defended his bad decisions like going onto Joe Rogan's show (that has a history of islamophobia and transphobia and racism) during his campaign, when Sanders catered more to the White working class at the expense of Black voters (not talking about reparations) etc., etc... 馃馃馃槖馃槖

I'm actually super glad we're having a conversation about this. The masculinization of black and brown women, because for years I felt like I endured this unique form of trauma until I realized other people went through the same thing too. And if there's one thing that I'd like to add to the conversation, there seems to be this misconception that this is something that starts at puberty. Like boys tell you you look like a man to hurt your feeling when that's so far from the case.
The first time I was purposefully misgendered was in kindergarten. I was constantly referred to by the masculine variant of my name, I was chased out of the women's restroom, and I had grown adults questioning what my biological sex was before I even knew what the difference was. And those behaviors persisted into adulthood because now if I present as anything less than 100% feminine, people will either compare me to men or animals.
And for myself and for many other brown and black women this is a life long act deliberately intended to humiliate, shame, and other us for the features we were naturally born with and I'm glad we're having a discussion on how harmful it actually is.]
What did Russel T Davies do to Freema Agyeman? (I love her and I need to know who i have to kill and why)
I love her too! But to answer your questions: RTD wrote Martha Jones in a racialised way that made her more susceptible to fan racism than she already was as a visibly Black woman. He wrote Ten in a way that he's straight up cruel to her, doesn't protect her from racism or even have the same level of empathy for her as other white companions. To this day, discussing the racism Freema endured at the hands of fans as a result of the way RTD wrote Martha has brought Freema to tears. Princess Weekes dropped a whole video essay on the racism in the way Martha and Mickey were written, which you can watch here. Also, I've shared this article before but this is a great breakdown of the Misogynoir in Martha's characterisation <3
"Owo the conformist privileged kids are living a charmed life of inherited opulence but the kids who don't want to live under a pre-determined destiny that dooms them were kinda disruptive about it so I guess it's debatable" ????
Crazy how Fox had THE Jubilee and Bishop and decided to do nothing with them
Lmaooooo 馃ぃ馃ぃ馃ぃ Omar Sy my beloved.
Anyways, I never understood why MCU haters praise the XMCU when it's just as problematic as the MCU. For a movie series that's based on one of the most diverse comic book series to date (starring characters with disabilities, ethnic and religious minorities, queer and trans etc), it got adapted in the most White cishet way possible. Sins including characters like Storm, Sunspot and Dani Moonstar getting lightwashed, Romani Pietro getting whitewashing and anglicised to Peter, straightwashing the bisexual Mystique, pushing aside iconic characters of colour like Jubilee, Storm (who's considered a literal goddess on earth) and Bishop, making the machoest White dude (Wolverine) the iconic star of the franchise. And we haven't even included that Legion fx series, which erases David Haller's canon blind love interest and replaces with an original character who's able-bodied.
Anyways, thanks for letting me rant about the xmen movies.
