Just getting back into writing, so warning: potentially ooc Ghost.

- cbf! Simon, who reaches out to an old acquaintance to send his first paycheck to you. He has the barracks and mess hall and knows you have no such comforts.

- cbf! Simon, who finds you left town as soon as you turned 18 from said acquaintance.

-cbf! Simon, who can't seem to track you down no matter how hard he tries. It's just like you disappeared. He can't even find any semblance of an internet presence.

-cbf! Simon, who lets it haunt him. The memories of your friendship and the absence of knowledge regarding your current life pop into his head at the worst times.

- cbf! Simon, who believes he's cursed. That he'll lose everyone he loves.

-cbf! Simon, who eventually accepts that he'll never have a bond like the two of you shared. Sure, he has his teammates. But they don't care for each other the same way you two did.

-cbf! Simon, who eventually learns to live with your absence. He even befriends his other teammates and (eventually) the tf141.

-cbf! Simon, who sees a girl eerily similar to what he imagined you'd look like, all grown up while out celebrating a successful mission with the task force.

-cbf! Simon, with a concerned Johnny, asking if he's okay as he stares at the girl with glazed over eyes.

-cbf! Simon, who hears your laugh, coming from the girls mouth. He immediately stands up to push Johnny away and head towards the bar.

-cbf! Simon, who approaches you with Johnny hot on his heels.

-cbf! Simon, who sees the confused look in your eyes as he approaches you and feels an ache in his chest.

-cbf! Simon, who has to make sure it's you. He calls out your name, and there's recognition on your face. Towards the name, not him.

-cbf! Simon, who's crushed when you ask, "Do I know you?" As if seeing the hurt in his eyes, you add, "Sorry. Can't really recognize you with the mask on mate."

-cbf! Simon, who doesn't think twice before ripping his balaclava. He thinks he hears a gasp come from Johnny. But all that matters is the look in your eyes.

One day, Ghost finally invites Soap and the others to their S/O's farm, and his S/O waits at the airport for them with their big-ass truck. The drive to the farm takes ages, and Gaz, Price, and Soap all fall asleep in the back seat. Only Ghost and his S/O are still awake - obviously because one of them is driving, but yeah - and they just talk, and then his S/O is like: "Bed s' been real lonely without you." and Ghost is like, well not anymore now, he's missed them so much and he can't wait to do some dirty things and shit, and they flirt like crazy and then S/O says: "I'll keep the hat on this time."

And Soap, who woke up at the wrong moment, is just like:

And Soap thinks it's a joke but then Ghost's S/O pulls out pics of Simon on a fucking horse, looking incredible uncomfy even though he's wearing his mask - with the S/O's hat on top of his mask for shits n' giggles.

I saw his paintings last year in the National Palaces Painting Museum in Istanbul and instantly fell in love. I swear man, just to see his paintings again I'll pay for the entrance fee for the Dolmabahçe Palace, it's so worth it.

We couldn't stay there for long unfortunately because the museum was about to close, which makes me so sad in hindsight haha.

If I ever become a rich person, I want to buy one of his paintings.

Alright, so I haven't drawn shit in like ages, or at least it feels like that. But @cindikitten with her awesome art and animations about Bell from Black Ops Cold War just inspired me so freaking much. So here's a lil drawing of an angsty situation that's been going around in my mind!

I'm pretty sure Bell was actually shot in the head or at least chest but ya know, it's for the ✨️angst✨️. I hc that Bell hit Adler with their gun too, or at least grazed him😳 I was wondering if I should've added a comment from Adler but in my head, he didn't say anything else to Bell after his little speech at the cliff.

Maybe he wanted to say something but in that short moment when he thought about what to say, Bell drew their last breath and when Adler was about to answer, he realized they were gone.

I like to think characters like that are crazy for positive affirmations. If you show them any amount of positive attention they’ll love you forever. If they have a thought or mindset for someone they’ll stick by it as long as they can. They’ll ignore how god awful the person is, and excuse their actions, and jump to defend them with every opportunity.

I feel the only time they’d switch up on someone is if they turned their back on them. Once that trust and love is gone, they’re never getting it back. They’ll love forever but they can hate forever too. Graves will never love Shepherd again, and he’ll hate him till the day he dies

and Bell’s feelings for Perseus are mixed and it’s a really cool dynamic I love. Bell had the chance to see full picture how awful everyone is and doesn’t want to align with anyone anymore. Despite literally being shot in the face by Adler, there’s still a slight faint reminiscent of that trust the CIA brainwashed into them that they’ll never get out. And despite knowing the awful stuff he was helping Perseus with, Perseus was nice with him. He saw them as equals and treated them with respect. He was only ever good to Bell and Bell can’t ever wear that feeling down.

Yeahh, surprisingly there are quite a few on AO3!! But you're right many of them are Adler/Bell smut and I kinda get it but it's not really the content I want to see about Bell so that one story that I mentioned was a rare find. Therefore, it hit me even harder that it hasn't been updated :/

Just imagining Mason go crazy about Bell's treatment by the CIA dsklfhsldkfhsdlkfhsdf, THE ANGSTTTT!!! Ngl my mind was completely mush after playing the game so I didn't take some things into consideration that you mentioned!! I hope your playthrough is going well, and please, please for the love of god, tell me what choices you made n shit like that! I'm always super interested in how other people play games!! And no worries haha - life can get in the way! - (I did check my phone every once in a while to see if you posted, so imagine my excitement when it finally happened haha). I mean, Adler mentioned in one line that he had an ex-wife but there wasn't really more than that. As I said, in the games it feels like background isn't important. Which I find sad because it would be a great opportunity to shape characters more - and also make their destinies (whether they die or not) more impactful for the player. But oh well, anyways...

You're right!!! I checked the timeline after I finished the game and if I remember correctly Bell is saved at the beginning of January and then brainwashed for a few weeks until February something something. So yeah, you're right. It makes complete sense that they're totally out of it! (Also, I'm using they/them pronouns here to be inclusive, but I headcanon Bell as he/him.)

Honestly, I have this crazy idea for a story in my head inspired by a fanfic I read on AO3 that hasn't been continued since 2021 like PLEASE- I know I'm also an author like that who seemingly abandons stories - BUT PLEASE I NEED THAT STORY TO COME BACK!!! (It's called For Whom the Bell Tolls by Animefreak1145) - where Bell does indeed end up dead but what is this??? Wakes up again at the beginning of the campaign and re-lives it several times (like a time-loop) until they finally start to understand what's going on, and they try to change what happened (this way I could explore multiple ways of how Bell could treat Adler/Perseus because, damn, while I know that everyone would probably swallow all personal hatred to save the world from potential nuclear extinction and maybe try to overcome it after Solovetsky, I just want one version where Bell just says fuck you to Adler and the others and just disappears and goes off the grid and tries to live but miserably fails haha).

Can I just mention again how much angst potential Bell as a character has? Like so much angst is already there, but imagine they lived because Adler didn't shoot them/missed vital organs. HOW DO THEY LIVE?? The identity crisis, being "damaged goods", the trauma of not having been in Vietnam but feeling like they were, the idea of having family/a lover back in the Soviet Union, having no one truly on their side, and questioning every remark made by the team. "Were they telling the truth or just acting nice because of the mission?", walking a thin line with the US government/CIA, maybe having to continue to work with the team despite all the bad blood between them, or being discarded by the CIA (not killed though) and now having to live in a country where you basically know no one for real. ADFSFDFHSJKDHFKLSDFDH THE AAAAANGST, it's so fucking good!!!

About the Perseus thing, ngl, I also don't see Bell and Perseus as like a thing but if they were- the angst meter would rise several notches, just saying. But ehh, there's other older characters with whom I could see Bell so yeah. But I'm also a little delulu so I like to imagine that Bell meant something to Perseus, whether that is only because of Bell being his RHM like you said, or because they were friends/like brothers/or more. Another thing, I heard through the grapevine - and this might be completely wrong because I dunno where I got this information from and if it's true lmao - but Alex Mason. I think he has been brainwashed before in the Black Ops series? So how would he react to finding out that Bell was/is getting pumped full with drugs and well, (ab)used in such a way?? That fanfic on ao3 that I mentioned incorporated Frank and Alex too and maaaan, while I found Frank Woods to be a total snack - what about the Found Family Trope?? Like Bell finding comfort in Alex who experienced similar things and Frank who seems to acknowledge them for their talents and not what they have behind the red door? RIP my heart because UGHGHHGH.

I'd love to write a story where the missions span over several months because then it would make sense for Bell to start questioning their life and lack of information about it. There would be more room for Bell to get closer to the others in the team, and the angst would be even better when it finally gets revealed that Bell was brainwashed!!

I wanted to comment on this, but my commentary was too long for good ol' Tumblr, so now I'm reblogging this haha, imagine we're having a conversation!!

You know, I was wondering if any other ending would've made sense. As in, if Adler didn't shoot Bell. Bell knew they were brainwashed, they clearly had some lasting trauma from it and probably hated Adler and the others - I certainly did after I played through the campaign hahah (I'm gonna revisit it again ofc, and maybe I'll change my mind then) - so could there really be a future where Bell lived?

Like how would that play out? I dunno if I interpret too much into it because of the fanfics I read right after finishing my first playthrough, but Bell only knows about Vietnam, right? So there was nothing else they remembered of their (fake) life - besides the small information in their file - that they're supposed to be Ex-KGB/MI6/CIA (I chose Ex-KGB btw haha)? Like just: I went to Vietnam with Adler. We're close friends. People say I'm this and that (the character traits). Like?

WHERE DO THEY LIVE? WHAT ABOUT FAMILY? WHAT ABOUT THEIR MONEY? Like imagine you got brainwashed, all you remember is that one thing that binds you to one person, and you think they're your friend/superior/close confidant. They offer stability, and ofc you don't want to disappoint them. Bell knows nothing. Shit basically. So yeah, I guess it makes a lot of sense that they would do everything to not disappoint Adler, whether they think about it actively or just subconsciously.

I'm so curious though. Like how did the team convince Bell that... well that the memory loss is nothing to be concerned about? Like yeah, Vietnam was messing you up but you can't tell me that I'm so broken that I don't remember my mother right??

That's one thing I don't really like about the Call of Duty games (and this is only about the two games I played so far, so forgive me if I seem ignorant because I don't know that x,y,z actually has two daughters called Becky and Martha or whatever) is that the backgrounds of the characters are unimportant. And ofc they are because we talk about shooter games that are about active terrorist threats and not Soap's Mamma, but you know. Just a few lines and you would know more about the characters' lives outside of their duties. Like with Adler. He had a wife apparently. And ofc Bell is supposed to be more or less a blank slate for players to imagine the backstory - or at least I like to tell myself that the developers thought about that - but imagine there's a scene where one of the team members is talking about their family and Bell is like... What about mine?

This opens up another aspect of that weird discomfort I felt while playing. Like I knew something was going on with all the TVs and the sudden music like huh?

Imagine Bell questioned their family. Like wouldn't they be concerned about my memory loss? Or at least call sometime? Where do they live? How many siblings do I have? Even if the team said something along the lines of "Oh, Bell, we're so sorry but your family's dead" that would also add some more problems because, damn, my family is dead. Where can I visit their graves? Why do I not remember that?? Why can't I remember anything about them???

To reiterate what I mentioned before. Bell is essentially a nobody, right? I'm pretty sure, they don't even have a passport (a real one). Because Adler and his team picked Soviet!Bell up, put some shit in their brain, and now have to deal with CIA!Bell whose life is entirely fabricated. Bell depends on them. Depends on Adler. If they're not useful to Adler anymore, they have nobody. Because let's be honest. I don't think Perseus would've tried to get Bell back from the CIA, and only accepted them again in the "Bad Ending" because Bell initiated contact first and showed loyalty to the cause. Otherwise, Bell would've been a threat to the organization that had to be eliminated. And Bell didn't know about their affiliation with Perseus until the end right? So the team was all they had.

And this state of being completely dependent on them, of not having anyone truly on their side without any lies involved... Man.

Bell is such a compelling character.
