Homecoming
@linkwvtch
It’s been a few since I started properly existing and I gotta say, nice as it is, there’s a lot of inconveniences in having your own body that I’ve gotten used to not having to worry about. Besides the basics of not dying, when I was just a nebulous concept within Sora’s heart, I didn’t have to restrain myself from punching Riku in the face every time I saw him. But, we’re all here on the Destiny Islands to celebrate, even Saix for some reason, so for the sake of the celebration, I can be the bigger man and let bygones be bygones.
And if Axel’s frisbee collides with a certain grey haired jerk’s face, well accidents like that just happen sometimes. No hard feelings.
While everyone seems content to pretend old grudges never existed, I’ve got some other history that needs clearing up. Yes, thankfully, I’ve got my best friends back and we have many ice cream filled days ahead of us. But while Xion and Axel are fine now, there’s someone else who needs to be reminded she’s cared for.
“Hey, Namine!”
I call out to the blonde sitting on the edge of the dock by her lonesome. Riku was the one who picked her up from Radiant Garden, almost like he was daring me to settle things right here and-
...Gotta stay calm. No sense in getting worked up in front of her.
Taking a seat beside her, I give her my best smile before pulling out two carefully packaged ice cream bars, handing one to her. “Had to use Blizzard the whole way over to keep these things frozen. If I wasn’t smuggling them, I bet Xion and Axel would have eaten them by now.”
Unwrapping the familiar dessert, I take the first satisfyingly salty-sweet bite. Maybe it’s being right on the water like this, but this one tastes especially satisfying for some reason. Or, more likely, it might have something to do with who I’m sharing this with. Even so, I still have things to say she deserves to hear.
“...I missed you. I missed you a lot. Sora told me what you said and I-” Great, I brought up the elephant in the room already. It’s hit Kairi the hardest, naturally, but the two of us were connected to him too. For as much as I wanted to be my own person, it still feels like I lost a part of myself. Staring at the girl beside me, the fear of losing her too spurs me to action.
I place my hand over hers gently, looking up at her from beneath the golden curtain of her bangs. “...Every day Sora and Kairi spent together, we did too. I want you to know, I wouldn’t trade our time together, not for anything.”

"You never have to worry about being alone because...I shall always be here by your side, no matter where you go Roxas. We promised to meet each other again, right?"
Two hearts, inextricably linked together. A chain of memories that binds us together. I’d call it destiny if I didn’t malign the very concept. No, this is something more than that. A promise isn’t something preordained by the cosmos. A promise is a choice.
She chose to put herself in danger to give me the answers I was after. She endangered her own goal so I could have a choice in mine. In a lifetime of being steered and controlled, she broke my bonds and set me free. How could I choose anything but to bind myself to her?
I take her hand in mine, more solid and real than anything I’ve ever felt. She’s warm and alive and so radiant she’s almost hard to look at. Like any beautiful sunset, I wouldn’t dare look away. I want to appreciate every moment I have by her side.
“Right. We’ll be together, every day.”

Vanilla KH2 was small too, patched/final mix KH3 will be even better than KH2FM.

So we’re doing this now, are we? Alright, let’s address your claims step by step.
Vanilla KH2 was small too
To start with, no, no, it was not. The original release of Kingdom Hearts 2 was a massive game, especially in comparison to its peers. Even at the time, it was recognized one of the best action RPGs ever made and it remains so to this day. Final Mix added some fun new bosses, a new area in an existing world, a single extra drive form, and a few fun little garnishes like the Mushroom XIII and the puzzle pieces, but that was on top of what was already a huge game that was fun all the way through.
patched/final mix KH3
Second, shut up. So far, the only basis for 3 getting any post-launch support is Nomura talking out his ass and Final Mix existing for 1, 2, and BBS. Even then, the “Final Mix” did nothing to improve how poorly BBS played and the series has been on a decline since then. Getting 3 up to snuff as a complete and satisfying experience would take more than a polished rerelease or a patch of existing content. Central aspects of the game would need to be changed outright for it to be as fun as it should be.
patched/final mix KH3 will be even better than KH2FM.
Third, no, no, it will not. Kingdom Hearts 2 is not without flaws, but it is a joy to play from moment to moment. From a pure gameplay perspective, Kingdom Hearts 3 does not control as well, does not have as much to offer, and is simply not as fun as 2. 3’s core design is a worse version of 2 and to make 3 play anywhere near as well as 2 would require a level of fine tuning Square seems utterly unconcerned with.
To sum up, Kingdom Hearts 3 is considerably worse than the game that got everyone hyped up for it in the first place thirteen years ago. While 3 is an improvement over the dreck that came after 2, it still falls considerably short of the bar a two console generation old game set. This game is a disappointment to me as someone who loved both the gameplay and story of the first three Kingdom Hearts titles and the odds of it seeing a revision that adequately addresses the criticisms that so many of us have rightfully voiced are unlikely at best.
#anonymous#ask#kh3 spoilers#unchained#Dude I write fanfiction for Roxas#It should be apparent to you how much I love Kingdom Hearts 2

darkprinceofjustice replied to your post: It’s over. I beat Kingdom Hearts 3, a game...
This is the best honest KH3 review yet.

I pride myself on my honesty if nothing else. Glad to voice some similar frustrations, your majesty.

I feel this on a spiritual level…….. ..all of this and I don’t even have the game yet. I have friends who stream it and I watched them and honestly just all of this. I feel it in my bones.
The struggle is real, my chocobo-headed, psychologically traumatized brother. For everyone’s sake, I hope the VII Remake is spared a similar misfortune.
