February 10, 2021 - Zoodiac Broadbull Zoodiac as an archetype have an effect where they can be XYZ'd over ANY other Zoodiac Monster of a different name, and gain the effects of all Zoodiac's attached as material. Couple that with Broadbull's own effects of adding the atk and Def of all Zoodiac materials and detaching a material once per turn to add a card from your deck to your hand, and Broadbull was central to the deck's meta viability. Well, when the game began in the TCG we had La Jinn and Summoned Skull as our major beatsticks, but in the OCG at Vol.1's launch, Hitotsu-Me's 1200/1000 was the best statline for a no-tribute monster! Yes, 1200 atk was the original beatstick. Can you imagine whittling down 8000 LP using monsters so underpowered? This Day in Yu-Gi-Oh! February 4, 1999 - OCG Volume 1 Release I usually try to stick to TCG for these, but today is a biiiiiiig day! On this day 22 (wow, 22!) years ago, Konami released OCG VOL 1, separating the card game from Bandai and creating the form of the game that would become what we all love. They're distinct from their real counterparts by the silver instead of gold foil in the bottom right despite being "1st Edition", and the subpar lacquering over the Ultimate Rare foiling. This is the one counterfeit that I owned.
