jackieshauna was already canon to me so it almost doesnt feel like a big deal but fuck it is kinda big actually ?? so often the blatantly obvious queer undertones in relationships like this are never directly acknowledged. its left open just because it can be and its easier and tbh sometimes being a queer fan in that space is so tiring. being told we're seeing things by other fans or waiting for some self-satisfied writer to throw us scraps in an interview. everyone who clocked shaunas crush in the pilot how we feeling? good? we feeling good?

Im so obsessed with Shauna Shipman and her obsession with consuming Jackie. Her boyfriend, her life, her body. Shauna doesn't even believe in the Wilderness. The girls don't even need to resort to cannibalism anymore, she's just making them do it so she can relive eating Jackie. It's why later she makes their victims wear Jackie's necklace when they kill them. She literally never moved past losing Jackie. "Do you think Mel has to wear Jackie's clothes when they make out?"

the people hating on the Cobel solo ep r crazy bc for me one of the biggest mysteries of the show has ALWAYS been "wtf is up with that absolute freak?" She is so deeply strange and captivating. Finding out the specific kind of madness that has been motivating her methods has haunted me since she was talking about de-icing her stoop, and now we know! child soldier PhD student mourning both her mother and her stolen IP!!! THATS why she's crazy THATS why she is so incomprehensible and strange. obsessed obsessed obsessed.

I do find it really interesting that Harmony's (presumably) first solution to the trauma she endured at the factory was inventing Severance. Some other types of people would have perhaps invented a self-stirring ether vat, or some type of high-tech automata that could take over the more dangerous and questionable jobs Lumon had been delegating to children. But no. Rather than trying to present an alternative to the exploitation, she dreamed up a way that people just wouldn't have to *feel* it.

I can't quite articulate it but it speaks to very deep indoctrination. Rather than saying 'here, you don't have to exploit people' she says 'here, if you're going to exploit people at least let them forget.' something something reverence to an all-powerful seeming company something something not even being able to imagine a world where people aren't being exploited so instead just trying to lessen the blow.
