The Character Concept of the boys of Free! (translation credit)

The art room. The last time he went there was for designing the poster, and he told himself he wouldn't be going back again. The members were too noisy. Though there wasn't much he could do now. Following slowly behind her, he sighed as they approached the art room.

"...What are we going to do here?"

"Uh, okay?" Did he really not know what to do that he would spend time with two gossiping girls a year younger than him? She pursed her lips. What would Haruka like to do — aside swimming, because that was a no no at about seven in the morning. He’d probably had a super-long bath anyway.

"We should stop by the art room."

"I see..." He replied quietly. The gray haired boy's enthusiasm was a lot for Haru to take, though he was used to it from his close friend Nagisa. The two continued standing there in silence, Haru not much of a conversation starter, staring off in the distance. 

A smile formed on the younger swimmers lips as he heard the faint but still there thanks that Nanase had spoken off to the side. “Yes! I have been swimming free since elementary school.” Nitori replied enthusiastically.

What she had just said was pretty much what Haru felt. He calmly nodded as he stared back at the water. Maybe one more swim wasn't such a bad idea. "...Yeah." 

He stood up slowly and stretched slightly before diving right back in the water. He rose up and eyed the girl. "...You should learn to swim, you don't know what you're missing out on." 

Sora shuffled slightly and sat down next to him.

"I would love to swim, but… I don’t know how.," she said shyly, her gaze out towards the water.  The water seemed calmed and peaceful, beckoning someone to swim within it.

"I never learned how to swim so I’m a bit envious. Your so lucky, to swim and feel relaxed."

He sighed after hearing her response. None of it sounded interesting. Well nothing did sound interesting to him except swimming. "...I see." He muttered under his breath. Though he couldn't do anything, might as well follow her. She wasn't allowing him to swim after all.

"...I'll stay with you until I swim." He stated plainly.

Her shoulders shrugged. She didn’t usually think about what she did before school — she just did it. She actually had to think about what she did before answering him.

"Usually I hang out with Chigusa, or do the homework I was to lazy to finish." Homework sucked on so many cruel levels.

A kitten? Why would she even want to be chasing a kitten to end up at the pool? Though as long as it didn't involve him, Haru wasn't concerned. As soon as the girl started complimenting his swimming, Haru turned away, his back to the girl. He wasn't intending to be rude, but just didn't take compliments well. "..Thanks." He muttered drying his hair without turning back.

After a while, he sat down on one of the nearest seats and took a large gulp of water. "...Do you swim?"

Sora felt embarrassed when he asked. She cocked her head slightly and thought for a moment, than started to panic. When he put it like that, she seemed like a creepy stalkers or something.

“I-I wasn’t watching for a long time! I- I’ve only been here for about a few minutes. After I found out it wasn’t a Kitty and I was going to leave but…” She fiddled with her fingers and looked away. “As I watched you swim, it was an amazing experience. You seemed elsewhere.. You reminded me of a dolphin that moved with grace. It was really fun to watch…” Sora smiled slightly at the mental picture but stopped immediately. “I’m sorry! I seem weird…” She said flustered. She smiled softly. ” But you are an amazing simmer.”

Haru wasn't sure how to take the compliment so he quickly turned his head to the side hiding his face. "...Thanks." He spoke quietly after a while. After gaining the courage, he turned back to the boy. "...You swim free? For how long?"

Thinking back on it Nitori had wanted to complement on the others swimming, both at practices and at the competition he had noticed his skills, they are really something. Ai wished he was able to swim freestyle like that, he was a little courios of what his best time was.

"I have seen you swim at are joint practices, You’re really amazing! I actually also swim free."

It was strange to see her change expressions so easily. She was mad at him, now she was happy again. Though in a way, Haru was glad she wasn't forcing him to do anything he didn't want to do. 

He glanced his head to the side before nodding slowly. "...Maybe." He muttered. "...What do you usually do before school starts?" He asked.

She shrugged. That wasn’t her business, so long as he didn’t swim and didn’t leave the school grounds. Haruka-senpai had to go to school. She didn’t know what his plans for the future were, but she was sure school had to have something to do with it. “Not my issue,” she announced. Her lips kicked up in a smile. 

"Maybe you should work on your art or make sure you have everything ready for school."

"...Right." He bluntly replied. Now that he was in the water, he could relax again. Smoothly gliding to his back, he drifted across the water gently, eyes closed. He didn't mind them being here; as long as they didn't disturb his swimming.

"Exercise…" Kazuma said just as calmly. It was a lie, but he didn't like other people getting in the way of the stray's training. For their safety for the most part. Maybe they'd just leave and go somewhere else to train. Maybe not he was enjoying watching Nora "drown".

He stared at his friend smiling. How he was always happy baffled Haru. "I'm about to go for a swim."

"Hey, Haru!" Nagisa beamed at the sight of his friend. "What’s up?"

He turned around to face his familiar cheerful friend. "...Nagisa."

"Hmm..? Oh, They there, guys!"

Startled, he glanced down at his wrist. She was scarier and stricter than usual. Though he should've seen it coming, after all, Makoto was not here to stop him, meaning Kou was responsible. He raised his eyebrow, finally giving out a long sigh. "...I just wanted to swim for a bit." Though he didn't mind, since he was going to swim after school.

What was he meant to do 15 minutes before school? He wasn't used to going to school early; if he was, it meant going for a swim. "...What am I meant to do now?"

She should’ve seen this coming. Haru was Haru and keeping him away from the pool was near impossible. Hell, without Makoto, it was impossible. There wasn’t anyone for her to pass him on to who could deal with him. Nagisa would probably join him. Rei would take it on as an experiment.

Kou scowled, grabbing hold of Haruka’s wrist. “The hell you are,” she announced. “I’ll walk you to class if I need to. You can have like fifteen minutes extra after school.”

Relieved, it was his chirpy blonde haired friend. "...Nagisa." The corner of his lips raised slightly as he watched his friend approach him.

It was true, Haru wasn't one to come early in the morning for school. However he had just woken up early which gave him an advantage; swimming early in the morning. 

"...I just wanted to swim." He calmly responded.

"Haru-chan! Good morning!"

Nagisa smiled brightly up at the other boy as he waved and walked over.  It was unusual to not see him with Makoto this early in the morning.  They always walked to school together, didn’t they?

"You don’t usually come in this early, do you?"

He wasn't expecting her to bow. He felt awkward standing there as she bowed respectfully. 

If she had praised him on his swimming skills, it meant that she had seen him swim earlier on. 

"...Thanks." He spoke calmly. "How long have you been here...?"

"O-oh. Nice to meet you." She bowed slightly towards him. Sora began to feel slightly awkward, so she bursted out,

"U-um.. You swim very well!"
