White feminism is when there are a gazillion gifs made of Taylor Swift attending the Golden Globes 2k24 for doing abso-fucking-lutely nothing but none for Lily Gladstone the first Indigenous American woman to win a fucking Golden Globe. Go girl, give us nothing 😘✌🏼

While America is distracted with who Taylor Swift is sitting next to and watching zionist paid commercials, Israel is busy bombing 1.6 million people in Rafah.
Just so everyone understands: these are displaced civilians with absolutely NO WHERE to go.
And Israel has given them 2 options: Be ethnically cleansed or die.

as a woc, seeing taylor being so.... whatever this is (smitten and sappy) about matty healy (i don't need to elaborate), and making a song about the people who told her not to date him is honestly an eye opener. I'm not gonna go ahead and say from now on that her music sucks or whatever because folklore and evermore were the albums that made me want to write, which was a big change and realisation in my life. so that is something I will unfortunately, always owe to her. but you definitely won't see me parading around saying that shes an amazing person or that I'm a swiftie (or well, used to be)

"Swift seems to be in tireless pursuit for superstardom, yet the negative public opinion it can come with irks her, and it's a tired theme now plaguing her discography and leaving little room for the poignant lyrical observations she excels at. It's why the pitfalls that mire her 11th studio album are all the more disappointing - she's proven time and time again she can do better. To a Melbourne audience of her Eras Tour, Swift said that 'The Tortured Poets Department' came from a "need" to write. It's just that maybe we didn't need to hear it."
NME's review of "the tortured poets department" by taylor swift.

Is it just me or the songs on The Tortured Poets Department sound the same? It's like they all blend together at some point....at first listen there is not one song stuck in my head. And this is coming from someone who genuinely enjoys her music ...Red is one of my faves. You could swap the songs from Midnights and TTPD and I wouldn't be able to tell. I think she should start working with a new producer. Although I stopped being a fan since the breakup, I was still looking forward to new music .... I was excited for what new sound she would explore but it was disappointing to hear the same old repetitive Jack Antonoff synth pop genre.
She probably needs a break .... all this hyper production in the past few years with so many albums and their multiple versions must have had an impact on her creativity and quality...also a lot of lyrics are just......eh I don't know the right words, but she can do better for an artist of her magnitude and caliber.
Also, I feel like the aesthetic for the album does not match the music...like the dark academia/old books thing doesn't really go with the songs for me. Again, they sound a lot like something from Midnights due to the production so probably that's why I feel like that.
Another thing, the album seems to be mostly about the 1975 dude, but the marketing pointed to Joe Alwyn which led to him being harassed by her fans and she did nothing. That was horrible of her. It's these kinds of things that led me to leave that fandom. Even Ariana put out a statement when she released her new album.
Overall, I expected a better album from her. She really needs to take a break. The overexposure and overproduction are not looking good.

the swiftie to swift-hater pipeline is something so interesting because I've been on both sides. I've been the person who defended her and ignored any criticism about her. and now slowly seeing all the signs of her just being another rich white person blinded by money and fame and completely disregarding human morals. the several versions of one album only having a single special song even before they are released, because you KNOW your insane fanbase will buy it. the utter silence on the genocide currently going on. complaining to her fandom that they didn't let her date a racist imbecile and not doing anything to prevent the oncoming hate on joe alwyn. why? because she profits from that. maybe at first it annoyed her that people said she only writes about her exes, but after years of media speculation and manipulation, she has made it her brand. she doesn't care who is BURNED at the process because at the end, there are people to defend her. the whole promo being so obviously about joe or matty is so gross, when joe supported her during her darkest time. instead of trying to make her name as something else, she has owned it. all this album says is she doesn't wanna listen to ANYONE anymore, and not in a "ignore the haters" kinda way.

You know, it's rather interesting to me that Taylor Swift's parasocial relationship with her fans is honestly more akin to a YouTuber than a writer's. When I scroll through her tag on tumblr/Twitter, it's far more regarding the connection to her personal life/relationship developments than the actual metaphors/fictional story she might be telling. Everything comes back to how her songs reflect back on her relationships with Joe/Matty/Travis/Jake/insert ex-boyfriend here. And what fascinates me about it is that even though she complains about it, she leans into that very perception because it strengthens the parasocial bond.
The marketing for TTPD so clearly being about Joe Alwyn and the songs to Matty Healy. The marketing/video for Red TV so CLEARLY being about Jake Gyllenhaal, with so many of the new lines in All Too Well specifically being digs at him (I'll get older but your lovers stay my age, casting an actor that looks like him for the video, specific lines in I Bet You Think About Me). The fact that songs like Getaway Car and Bejeweled and Gorgeous and London Boy and Lavender Haze being picked apart at time of release and long after for signs of relationships crumbling. The way she uses surprise songs in relation to her relationship development with Joe/Matty/Travis. The damn TTPD "stages of grief" playlists where she deliberately undid/changed the meanings of old songs just to keep her audience speculating on her love life.
It's not sexist to point out that her wielding her love life is a marketing tool and that the strongest connection to her audience isn't the strength of her writing/the composition of her music- it's her deliberate crafting of a connection between her music and her personal life, leaving the audience invested in her music as an extension of Taylor the Person/Girlfriend rather than Taylor the Artist.

Since I’m back talking about Taylor Swift on main again, here’s another take that is gonna piss some people off:
I don’t care that Taylor put in a song that she regrets Matty Healy — she still doesn’t seem to comprehend what she was actually criticized for. She actively went out with a man who has been openly misogynistic, racist and antisemetic. She gave him a platform by letting him perform at her tour. He made inappropriate comments about Ice Spice and then she turns around and collab with her to save face.
Dating someone who is so openly bigoted does reflect poorly on your character, because it indicates that you are either agreeing with the person or at the very least doesn’t care — which is just as bad.
Taylor Swift has certainly gotten some strange and unjustified criticism over the years — but this wasn’t that. It was a genuine questioning of her character and to this day she hasn’t shown a comprehension of why she was criticized for it.

I don’t know how to say this — but people saying an album needs to be edited down are not stupid people who can’t appreciate art and only focus for a short amount of time.
One YouTuber I really enjoy is Mic the Snare who makes videos specifically about music and the industry (I highly recommend). One thing that has really stuck with me that he’s said is that and album shouldn’t be more than an hour long (or something along the lines).
Obviously there are exceptions.
But as a general rule I have started looking at lengths of albums more often and found that a lot of really great records don’t usually cross that line. Maybe in a deluxe version but sometimes not even then.
It does not make the albums lack depth or make them any less good — usually they benefit from it because it has involved a selection process that allows those lesser finished tracks to be left on the cutting-room floor.
Taylor Swift does have a bit of a kill your darlings problem — and some people absolutely love that about her — which is fine. But I don’t know, to say some people aren’t intellectual enough to appreciate TTPD is such a weird take.
