And I thought about who I really was, and I made it.”

Parallels in Gabrielle’s storyline - Everything changes.

This is one of the more popular parallels in the show. Going from Gabrielle’s inquisitiveness and naivety in the season 1 episode, ‘Dreamworker’, on taking up a killing weapon and being curious as to what it would be like to kill someone… to the moment when it actually happens and she stabs someone in the season 3 episode, ‘The Deliverer’. The same phrase is reiterated again. That everything changes once you cross the threshold in taking a life. It’s a very powerful and horrifying scene, and the peak in Gabrielle’s storyline, as one of her core values was not to kill.

What I find particularly interesting, more than the kill itself, is who she kills. I don’t know whether it was intended or not, but the woman who Gabrielle stabs is called Meridian, and this is interesting to me because there are two definitions/meanings for the term ‘meridian’. 

One definition/meaning is a concept for Chinese medicine and a technique for acupuncture called the “Meridian System”, which is about a set of pathways for life-energy known as “qi” or “chi” to flow throughout the 12 energy centers or chakras (7 inside, 5 outside) of the human body. It is a fundamental component of Chinese Taoism. The philosophy of ‘Yin-yang’.

The second definition/meaning for the term “meridian”, has to do with astronomy and geometrics/mathematics, and it is a very scientific term for the highest point of power or prosperity in a celestial body; such as a star or planet. Denoting systems outside of Earth’s atmosphere where the two opposite poles of North and South connect in a half circular shape; for example, the moon in its First Quarter phase orbit around the Earth.

Now, why I find this so interesting, is because of what it tells me in relation to Gabrielle’s storyline and specifically about the scene in ‘The Deliverer’. If my interpretation is correct about this being intended by the writers of the show, they are basically saying that the moment when Gabrielle killed Meridian in animal instinct of defending and protecting Kraftstar, who was lying on the altar about to be sacrificed moments beforehand… or so that’s what Gabrielle was led to believe, is the moment when she reaches her peak of power, and that this was the true beginning of her pathway into discovering her true self.

Which we all know she does… eventually… due to the painful experiences and circumstances of season 3 and 4. So does that mean that it was the right thing to do for her evolution in the moment? Ponder this because the information to presume so, based on that woman’s name alone, is staggering to say the least.
