YEAH
As an example, in the beginning of the OG authority run:
Tumblr media
Apollo and Jenny are just chilling together, they're friends!!! HELL YEAH
genuinely my favorite thing about apollo and midnighter as well as rictor and shatterstar is their friendships with the women around them. like genuinely their closest friends are women and it's done in a very real way, not the gay best friend stereotype.

*being dragged away by dc fandom police*
you can't make me do it. you can't make me tag or call them andrew pulaski and lucas trent. you can't make me do anything!
*voice growing distant*
the only alien experiment from the authority is jack hawksmoor, the non-shoe wearing bastard. apollo and midnighter were post-humans engineered/built superhuman by henry bendix when he was weatherman of stormwatch. stormwatch, a united nations founded organization. a government organization!
they were the only survivors of the team stormwatch zero. stormwatch zero! dc used the premise of the garden for midnighter which they utilized from the old stormwatch plot.
read their original stuff. jenny quantum! if you don't know that name, then rea–
*door slams*

Another hypothetical comic cover for a hypothetical timeline— pastiche of golden age illustrations from Saturday Evening Post and the American.
This pastiche has been living rent free in my head for like, 2 years now. It makes so much sense and literally writes itself.

A deep frustration I felt towards the original Authority run pertains to the complete lack of empathy towards the Doctor and his substance abuse.
I find a meta-contextual analysis of the Authority (and Wildstorm as a whole) so fascinating because these comics are time capsules. Consequently, Wildstorm comics provide insight to the American cultural zeitgeist of the late 90s and early 00s.
I think a lot my my personal gripes with the N52 and all subsequent renditions of WS is how DC's removes the context in which these characters are created in. I understand the desire to modernize with N52, but now, with 24 years of of hindsight, a piece of Wildstorm media that acknowledges the flaws, prejudices, and triumphs of its predecessor can be so, so poignant.
