Sorry for my lengthy absence. For those who remember generation 2050 we published animal welfare and environmental books. It turns out the book market is incredibly hard to get any traction in and I found the stress of running a ‘business’ that was haemorrhaging money whilst having a full time job too much. I’ve decided to shut down the company so that I can get back to the mission - to improve the way we relate to other animals and the planet. I still think social enterprise is a really good idea in theory but I couldn’t make it work with my business and in the end trying to make it work made me lose my way with it. This is just a temporary logo but all our books are still free to download on the website and there are other teaching resources on their too. I want to highlight good reads from other authors who teach humane education messages through their books. My sister sif is a fantastic book and one which was key 🔑 in the formation of my views and beliefs growing up. It’s a beautiful story written in 1986 and about a dystopian future in the early 2000’s set on a slightly magical Pacific island. Sadly the dystopian view of this time is not too far from the reality but as always it’s not too late for our species to turn things around. I really believe in ‘lighting the fire’ rather than ‘filling the bucket’. Adults all have ideas about right and wrong but if you don’t give people the liberty to learn how to think and instead tell them what to think you are no better than a fascist even if you enforce ‘good values’. I think you light the way but you should give children the tools to critically analyse and the room to form their own values from the information you give them. I can personally vouch that this is very true.
