Through The Ages: 1950’s (Lookbook)
James Semper
Hair: Javier Hair by Simstrouble
Tumblr media
Hat: Macleod Hat by HappyLifeSims
This is James’ buisness outfit. The goal of a 1950’s business suit was to look like everyone else. Grey was really the only needed color, for buisness dull and understated was the way to go. Men would offend change out of these suits into something more comfortable at the end of the day, often sport coats. So James’ suit is plain and grey. He also wears the fedora/trilby hat, very popular in the 50’s. It’s grey to match his suit. This was the last decade where men would wear hats as a required fashion. He also wears brown oxford shoes.
Tumblr media
Shirt: Escale Shirt by Rope’s Workshop
Hat: Tenore Fashion Set by HappyLifeSims
This is a much more causal outfit. Casual clothing, unlike business clothing, actually had color. The 1950’s was the decade where leisure wear became very popular. James wears a collared button up green shirt and bermuda shorts and a brown belt. These shorts reach just above the knee, but wouldn’t be worn without knee socks. That’s why he wears argyle knee socks, one of the most popular bold sock patterns. He wears brown oxfords too. His hat is straw with a bold ribbon.
Tumblr media
This is his formal outfit. Men wore a tuxedo for every event after 6. His jacket is single breasted, but double was also popular. He wears oxfords (even if the photo cut them off). I’ll take this hatless opportunity to talk about his hair. His hair is short and simple, as men’s 50’s hair was. Not much to talk about with this outfit.
Alice Semper
Hair: Lady’s MidCurls by Birksche
Tumblr media
Dress: Melina Dress by Tukete
Necklace: Classic Pearls x3 by Colores Urbanos
This is Alice’s house dress. While doing house work, women were supposed to look good and put together. It was a shirtwaist dress, the main dress of the decade. Just like all the dresses we’re going to see her wear, it follows Dior’s New Look of 1947. This look saw hemlines drop to the mid calf and the skirts become full. Her dresses is red with a black belt, the skirt being the swing style so common to the New Look. She wears black flats, but could also wear heels. She wears a simple pearl necklace (pearl jewelery was big in the 50’s). She could wear this outfit outside if she threw on gloves and jewelry. Her hair is short, as grown women were expected to have short hair. It’s a soft bob, just as curly as other styles but framed to the face, more versatile and popular than other cuts. Her makeup with this is pretty stereotypically 50’s. Her eyebrows are arched and full. Her eyeshadow is blue to match her eyes and she wears a cat eye. Her rouge is minimal, as rosy cheeks were out. And her lipstick is red. It is worth mentioning that suburban women rarely kept up with makeup trends but Alice has always been trendy! Why stop now?

Lil Darlin Dress by RetroPixels
1949 by Sentate
This the going out dress. It’s less simple than her house dress. The top is not just button up, but the skirt follows the swing style. This could have also been a sheath dress, but I couldn’t find cc for it. A sheath dress is what some of you might know a wiggle dress or a pencil dress. But sticking to this swing dress, it is blue and has a gingham pattern on the skirt. In this outfit, she wears heels and pearl necklace, earrings and bracelet. She also wears white gloves. Her makeup is almost the same, but her lipstick and eyeshadow is pink, another emerging trend of the 50’s.
Tumblr media
Top: By Default by JolieBean
Pants: Audrey Pants by Hezza
This is Alice’s most casual outfit. She wears cigarette pants, which were very different from the wide legged, men’s wear inspired pants if the 40’s. Her pants are white, and she wears ur with a red tied collared blouse for a nautical look. Looking European was a desired look in the 50’s, and this outfit shows it. She wears black flats and the same makeup as the first outfit.
Tumblr media
Dress: Pierre Balmain Evening
Gloves: Beauty and the Beast Collection by SimpleSimmer
Earrings: 1949 by Sentate
Necklace: 1949 by Sentate
This formal look is my favorite of this whole series. Formal dresses were very feminine and old fashioned during this era. They were inspired off Victorian Era dresses. This is more of an evening ball gown. Ice blue was a very popular color, and strapless gowns were also very popular. They’re were paired with long gloves and statement jewelry. Her earrings match her necklace and are very sparkly. She works slightly darker eyeshadow and looks amazing!

Through The Ages: 1950’s (Story)
Last time we saw Alice and James, they were in the 1920’s. That was real fun for them, but not so fun when the market crashed or when WWII happened. Especially for James, since he was drafted. But before he left, he asked Alice to marry him, and she accepted. They married, but when he came back from war unscathed, they realized they had to live life as a married couple. So they moved into a newly built house. And are living out married life in the 1950’s.
Tumblr media
Alice Semper (remember, she married James), is a housewife. Married women would certainly not have jobs in the 1950’s. She’s only about 20, but that was about the average age of marriage for women in the 50’s.
Tumblr media
But she gets bored pretty easily. Once the house chores are done she just relaxes in the yard, but that’s boring.
Tumblr media
It’s not like she’s lonely, she has plenty of friends. And she visits them frequently, they’re all also housewives but they’re not that interesting. Alice has lived through more than a millennium, she’s met much more interesting people.
Tumblr media
It’s not like James life is so interesting though. He works in the business career. That’s about all her does. And he doesn’t know Alice is so bored.
Tumblr media
They’re very much in love though. Alice’s favorite part of the day is when James comes home and James’ favorite part of the day is when he goes home.
Tumblr media
Or when they go to a gala. No matter where they go or the time period, dances and parties never change. They’re always very romantic.
Tumblr media
Alice thinks a baby would help with her boredom. But a baby is a big change. Would the baby be immortal? And if it isn’t, could the Sempers stand outliving them.

Through The Ages: 1920’s (Lookbook)
James Semper
Hair: Sleek and Swept by SimsationalDesigns
Tumblr media
Suit: Five Colors Suits by Simsbrush
Men spent most of their time in suits in the 20’s. But of course, there were different kinds of suits. James looks young (despite being older than a millennium) so he’s wearing the ivy league suit, also known as the cake eater suit. This style developed in Oxford University and was quickly brought back to the US. It was called the cake eater suit because people who wore these, frequented tea dances where .tea cakes were served. He’s wearing in an ice cream color, grey with dark stripes, and a dark tie. He wears brown shoes. And a fedora, since men and women couldn’t go out without a hat. The fedora was one of the popular men’s style of hats.
Tumblr media
Hat: Part of the Anastasia Collection by Simple Simmer
Sweater: Chadtastic The Cricket Jumper by Quiddity-Jones
This outfit is much more casual. He wears a tennis sweater with a tie under this. These could often be found in yellows and tans. It also has a v-neck, popular amongst the youth. It’s not exactly a fair isle sweater, with crazy patterns, popularized by the Prince of Wales, but it’s close. His pants are high waisted and wide. These were called Oxford Bags. His hat is in the panel flat cap style. He wears black leather shoes.
Tumblr media
Tuxedo: Men’s Tuxedo with a Vest by HistoricalSimsLife
Since this is the only outfit without a hat, I’ll take this opportunity to talk about men’s hair. Men’s hair, like James’ was slicked back and short. And they were clean shaven, since facial hair wasn’t too fashionable. This is a formal look, so he wears a tuxedo with a vest. It’s a white tie look with a tailcoat. He could wear a top hat, but I chose not to include it. He also wears black leather shoes.
Alice Aeternum
Hair: Chorus Curls by RetroPixels
Tumblr media
Hat: Lizzie Hat by HappyLifeSims
Dress: Stenographer Dress by RetroPixels
Shoes: Mary Janes by Gohliad
Necklace: La Luna Necklace by Nords-Sims
In the 20’s, there were social rules about what you would wear out of the house. Here, Alice is wearing a day dress. A feature of most dresses of the time were prominent collars. Colors were also bright, and many dresses had patterns. Dresses in the 20’s never reached the knee or above. Her dress is blue and yellow. Of course, it has a drop waist. Stockings were always worn, as you couldn’t expose your bare leg. She wears black, sheer stockings. Hats were always worn, as they were with men. The most popular woman’s hat of the time was the cloche hat. Brims were often so low, that women would have to tilt up to see people. Her’s matches her dress in yellow. She also wears mary janes with a slight heel. She also wears white gloves. It’s also worth mentioning her makeup. She wears a bright red lipstick, and rouge (blush). She doesn’t wear eyeliner or eyeshadow, not worn during the day in the 20’s. Her necklace is pearls.
Tumblr media
Dress: Edith Dress by Linzlu
Shoes: Mary Janes by Gohliad
This is a house dress, only worn at home in the company of family. It has a drop waist and collar, and is in blue gingham, one of the most popular colors for house dresses at the time. She wears white stockings and mary janes, and the same makeup as the last outfit. She doesn’t wear a hat, since she’s at home.
Tumblr media
Hat: 1920s Guest Cloche Hat 01 by HappyLifeSims
Dress: Day Dress 04 by HappyLifeSims
Shoes: 20’s Shoes by SimsFromThePast
Necklace: La Luna Necklace by Nords-Sims
This dress is slightly more formal than the last. It’s called an afternoon dress or a tea party dress. A notable feature of it is it’s lack of collar, instead this one has a v-neck with lace. She wears a matching hat, and a pearl necklace. Her tights are black and sheer. And she wears the same makeup as the previous outfit. Her shoes are slightly more formal, not exactly mary janes.
Tumblr media
Hat: 1920s Guest Cloche Hat 01 by HappyLifeSims
Coat: The Cat’s Meow by JaviTruloveSims
Shoes: 20’s Shoes by SimsFromThePast
I decided to throw a winter outfit in there, just because I love 20’s coats. They followed the silhouette of the dresses, and basically have no waist. The top has fur and the rest is blue. She wears a blue hat, white stockings and mary janes. And white gloves.
Tumblr media
Headband: Adaline Headband by MagnolianFarewell
Dress: The Starlet Dress by RetroPixels
Shoes: 20’s Shoes by SimsFromThePast
Earrings: Cabochon Earrings by nataliS
Necklace: White Long Pearls by EmmaStillSims
This is my favorite outfit: an evening/flapper dress. I’d consider Alice a flapper. Contrary to popular belief, 20’s dresses usually didn’t have fringe or beading, as that would have been very expensive. This is a more accurate version. The dresses were usually sleeveless or tiered, and this dress is both. It of course, doesn’t expose the knee. She also wears a jeweled headband, drop earrings, and long pearl necklaces. She wears nude color tights and black shoes.
