“Trigger Warnings” in RP.

Apart from being completely insulting of those who are medically diagnosed with PTSD, so-called 'trigger warnings' on RP sites are utterly pointless. In the film industry, they classify the elements of the film using a rating system. In Britain, it's BBFC; where films are given simple age ratings (12, 15, 18) and additional information can be scripted in the film description or on the DVD cover, e.g. "Excessive violence, very strong language, sexual themes, etc". This is all what's needed. With books or written works, Authors don't put ratings or trigger warnings on their covers. The thought of that is prety laughable, right? Technically a twelve year old can pick up 'American Psycho' or 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and read it.

So, what is the point in trigger warnings? There is no point. I'm pretty sure the majority of the role play community does NOT have PTSD. So-called 'self-diagnosis' of PTSD or depression is merely attention-seeking. All mental illness has to be diagnosed by a medical doctor and, believe me, most people suffering from depression? They will hardly ever feel as though something is 'wrong'. It's just downright insulting to those who actually have to pull through their daily lives with these dreadful metal illnesses.

If we didn't experience all the colours of life that it gives us, then we wouldn't be human. You want to wrap yourself up in cotton wool and take away all the sharp edges? It's not going to happen. You are NOT being 'triggered' when you read things, don't kid yourself. If you really do get affected by something you read? I'm sure it's perfectly curable by discussing it with a friend or having a nice cup of tea, not getting out your social justice stick and poking it in the eyes of the writer.

So just stop it, admins and fellow RPers.
