The Mothman

In West Virginia folklore, the Mothman is a humanoid creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 15, 1966, to December 15, 1967. The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register, dated November 16, 1966, titled "Couples See Man-Sized Bird Creature ". The Mothman is known to bring about prophecies and ill-fortune, a ‘harbinger of doom’. It is said that if someone sees the Creature that they or their family shall suffer serious tragedy. There were many sightings of the Mothman around the Silver Bridge in the Point Pleasant area, coincidentally the bridge collapsed the same year the sightings were reported. Some say that the winged monster is an Angel of death and caused the collapse, some others believe the creature appears merely as a warning. Although the official sightings stopped in the late 1960s, there have been an increasing amount of winged creature sightings every year. For example there was the ‘Chicago Mothman’ sightings of 2018 and many more.
