The Sorors of The Leavenworth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc have been all over the classrooms of Leavenworth and Lansing, Kansas reading books by African American authors. I looked forward to spending time with these kiddos at David Brewer Elementary on Thursday. Happy Sunday! We continued our Founders Day Weekend Celebration by worshiping with Sunflower Missionary Baptist Church, Leavenworth, Kansas, under the leadership of Pastor Calvin Lewis and his beautiful wife, Melanie. We worshiped and praised the Lord along with their magnificent choir. Pastor Lewis gave us a word from 2 Corinthians 1: 3-5. “Be Encouraged In the Lord” Sometimes we need to encourage ourselves, but we must always keep our eyes on Jesus because He will never fail us. He said Don’t wait on the accolades of others because you might be disappointed. Man cannot define who we are. God will always comfort us when no one else will. He has brought us too far for us to give up on Him now! Last night’s Founders Day celebration was epic! We celebrated 110 years of our illustrious Sorority’s existence at Johnnie’s Jazz Bar & Grill in the Power and Light District. When I tell you we had an amazing time, that is an understatement! Our Soror Delynia Jannell and her band put on a fabulous show! Because of my and my family's personal experiences, I will always bring attention to Mental Health. Our experience has a happy ending, but so many others do not. Today, October 10th, is World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme is: “Make mental health & well-being for all a global priority.” Mental health is real, and so is the stigma attached, and everyday access to care is still an issue. More awareness is needed. Happy, Wonderful Wednesday! Unbothered…. “God will answer prayers we don’t have the faith to pray.” We will all experience emotional times in our lives. Grief, doubt, and anger. Lord knows I have experienced them all and sometimes at the same time. However, I think of those times as a way for my attention to turn to God instead of my circumstances. This time is the time we use all those resources that we have stored up and put on the shelf during the good times. We stored those resources there for a reason. He will answer our prayers and bless us even when we don’t have the strength to pray. Love you all!
