Not to be a bitch but sometimes people engage with fiction in the most boring way possible, and nowhere is this clearer than in videogames. Like what you mean you hate a character just because they were kind of abrasive when speaking to the player character? "They were mean to me" and it didn't occur to you to wonder why? Like, what might their attitude toward you reveal about the world? About the social dynamics within it? About their own perspectives and backgrounds and personalities? Does it even occur you to ask? Would you only have liked them if they bowed to your presence and talked about how great you are? Like I'm sorry but you're so boring. How boring fiction would be if it cathered to you

you can turn off player chatter in settings if it bothers you
that gets rid of all skill related voice lines from you or other players
i turned it off years ago and honestly at this point i forget just how much elementalist yells
Soooo finally unlocked tempest spec for my elementalist
It is fun, have more DPS, all nice and dandy
BUT
Another "Charged up!" and I'm going to snap and switch back to my previous 'core-pyromancer puissance-staff-camp fire attunement', I swear
I played it for one day and it already got o l d x)
#tempest is my main alac class if i need to bring an adps or aheal to raids/strikes/fractals#i usually have the game sound on in raids#i will hear nary a charged up

I wish trahearne had lived not just because I love and miss him but also because imagine if he was around in eod for the introduction of the Harbinger. He could say something like "act with wisdom... BUT ACT." and then whip out a gun
#it really is a shame that the first time non sylvari see trahearne is claw island#you really miss out on how bugfuck insane this guy is#like yeah no he does have all the angst of being the first of his species and the weight that that carries but also no one likes him#so he spends all his time in orr surrounded by dead civilisations#but also like. he somehow knows EVERY npc in this goddamn game. he gets excited over stuff that other people find deeply strange#if you specifically have a priory sylvari you get to witness him being told by a guide that this cursed tomb is full of traps and ghosts#so they need to be quiet and careful#his response is to go 'i've got an idea'. he sends a necromancer minion down the corridor. the minion IMMEDIATELY explodes#he cheerfully turns to the group and goes let's not do that!#he should have been allowed a gun

Can we talk about how Balthazar, the most human of the human gods, viewed Rytlock as something to exploit for his own gain? How the human gods viewed Tyria as something to exploit for their own gain? Do you think the charr treated the first humans with kindness, understanding the crucible of war and extermination, only to be met with a betrayal so sound it left the charr and their culture beaten and broken? #wing 3 escort has to be my favourite use of moa signet#bc it reveals how weirdly coded the wargs are#for example: they are programmed with one lethal hit upon contact. this is normally targeted at glenna#if you moa signet them though the target becomes you?#so the moa will immediately come peck you to death (downed state)#if glenna is nearby they will go after her again once they re-warg#HOWEVER. if she's not. like if you're backwarging on a mesmer and a friend supervises to revive you from downed#the moa will go for you. it will after a few seconds re-warg#and then it will completely lose all sense of direction embed itself in the nearest wall and stay there until it eventually despawns#a friend and i once tried to see how many wargs we could stack in the same wall it was great#i still have screenshots

I'm being DEAD serious here guys. Make problematic ocs. I'm telling you. It's so much fun. And easier to get invested in them sometimes because they really STICK OUT in your brain. You fall in love with them.
For help developing problematic ocs try out these two methods
Method one: think of a problematic choice your oc will make. This could be; abandoning their children, killing a sibling, siding with the oppressor whatever. Work backwards from there. What are the implications of someone who would make that decision.
Method two: give them a motivation and work forwards from there. For example; they have the motivation to survive no matter what, they need to be the ruler of their society, they will not go against a specific religious/moral code etc. now make sure every decision they ever make is in line with that and crucially put things in their way that'll make them make fucked up decisions to get what they want.
Now! You have! A fucked up oc! And you will love them! I promise
#the commander of mine whose story i've invested the most time and emotions into#started as me wanting someone who could wear the light aetherblade armor bc it fucks#and then a friend of mine started playing gw2 and i was like oh we can do story together and i can bring my new character#and it's like well now i have the two primary aspects of this character. you have a friend that will become the pact commander#and you will become an aetherblade#and that was a very good starting point that took us through emotional arcs i never could have dreamed of
