The right to live without environmental pollution By Gustavo Copelmayer Lately I have been researching the universal right to live free from environmental pollution and I have come across interesting ideas. The right to life is above all other fundamental rights of people, hence the right to life is the basis of all jurisprudence. Its relationship to the environment could be deemed quite obvious since the right to life includes all living beings. Given this premise, we must think about enforcing the right to live in a space without pollution. Environmental pollution is understood to be any presence of substances or elements in the environment that are harmful to humans and ecosystems. There are different types of pollution, but they can basically be divided into: air, soil, and water pollution. Can nature be built? This captious question is due to the curiosity to know about the latest challenges developed to build, tame or control nature. In this sense, Gustavo Copelmayer says that methodologies have been developed for the management of water-land, the creation of artificial hills, dikes, to defense works and coastal protection, as well as the construction of artificial islands. For projects of this magnitude, the combination of the water-land relationship, horticulture, science, art and architecture have been employed. “I will mention the Eden Project located in a former clay mine in Cornwall, UK, a titanic work for which Tim Smit is responsible,” says Copelmayer. It is a project of environmental recovery, consisting of 5 geodesic spheres similar to bubbles that house three environments called biomes, the first simulates a humid tropical climate, the other is dedicated to the Mediterranean climate and the third biome is outdoors. Other countries have already ventured into this type of project in which they use organic and inorganic materials, and the forces and interactions present in nature. There have been extensions of coastal land using offshore spaces, carrying areas of land in the water, as has been done in Holland, Dubai, or United Arab Emirates. Is food safety and Covid-19 related? It has been more than a year and a half since the pandemic and strict confinement were decreed worldwide due to Covid-19. The bioeconomy could depend on rice Converting rice straw into biogas is a technological development that is currently being advanced. Biogas is understood to be a fuel that is formed from the decomposition of organic matter, a compound whose energy value is methane (CH4). This progress stems from an environmental problem generated by the burning of rice straw, a by-product that, as it has a high silicon content, cannot be used for animal consumption, explains Gustavo Copelmayer. Es costoso preservar el medio ambiente? Una pregunta que nos hacemos todos… Porqué razón el ser humano ha estado constantemente destruyendo la naturaleza debido a un supuesto progreso para la humanidad. El agua, los suelos, el aire, los seres vivos, los animales y plantas en extinción no tienen vuelta a la vida. El valor de la biodiversidad es inconmensurable pero irrecuperable, una vez que se pierde se fue y en muchas ocasiones no regresa más… Si los estados colocaran el valor de la biodiversidad en el corazón de la economía global, el planeta tendría menos problemas. Tenemos que estar comprometidos en la preservación de las aguas y el oxígeno necesarios para la vida. Parece increíble, pero algunos científicos de la Universidad de Cambridge, se dieron a la tarea de calcular el valor monetario de ciertos servicios ecológicos relacionados con la protección de nuestro ecosistema que de lo contrario causarian mas inundaciones, almacenamiento de carbono y todo tipo de amenazas bioambientales. Día Internacional de la mujer: En defensa del medio ambiente La relación de la mujer como vínculo y defensa del medio ambiente puede remontarse a tiempos ancestrales. Como parte de la conmemoración, cada 8 de marzo del Día Internacional de la mujer, Gustavo Copelmayer, llama la atención a la labor de la mujer en pro de la protección ambiental, su contribución al bienestar y el desarrollo sostenible de sus comunidades, así como al mantenimiento de los ecosistemas, la diversidad biológica y los recursos naturales del planeta. The ozone layer is recovering According to recently published studies, the progressive recovery of the ozone layer, vital for the environment and the health of human beings and a large number of species, has been evidenced, indicates Gustavo Copelmayer. The so-called “hole” which is actually a thinning of the layer at certain times of the year and, more significantly, in Antarctica, has been one of the hottest current issues for decades. It was internationally agreed to apply regulations such as the Montreal Protocol to avoid substances that destroy the ozone layer. These measures are already bearing fruit, which shows that the global will can achieve changes to improve the global environment, says Gustavo Copelmayer. The ozone layer is returning to its 1980 levels. This good news was published in the report on “Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion,” prepared by 282 international scientists for various institutions such as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the United Nations Program United Nations Environment (UNEP), the United States Space Agency (NASA) and the European Commission (EC). This work provides an updated view of the state of the ozone layer globally after the approval of the Montreal Protocol. This international treaty prohibited since 1989 the consumption and manufacture of substances that reduce it, such as chlorofluorocarbon compounds (CFC’s) which are halogenated compounds that mainly contain chlorine and bromine). Turismo ambiental y sostenible

Como efecto del confinamiento por la pandemia, las organizaciones turísticas se estremecieron en el mundo y a la par, en algunas ciudades comenzó a notarse un renacer de la fauna y la flora.

Ya el sector turismo había estado discutiendo mundialmente acerca de la sostenibilidad total: medioambiental y sociocultural como una fuerte contribución al desarrollo económico, pero también como fuente de preservación al patrimonio cultural y natural.

Varias iniciativas en el mundo han surgido como contribución a un turismo ecoambiental y sostenible, desde el uso de energías eléctricas para el transporte, así como la eliminación de artículos de plástico y la programación hacia destinos más verdes y protegidos como claves para el turismo responsable.

La industria turística debe crecer cada vez más vinculada al medioambiente es una de las premisas planteadas en diversos foros turísticos internacionales  en los que se plantean como objetivo la “sostenibilidad total del sector para 2050”.

Para este objetivo superior es fundamental el compromiso del sector, las regulaciones de los gobiernos y propiciar una mirada a largo plazo con proyección a 50 años cuya meta sea mitigar los efectos negativos del cambio climático, su impacto en la naturaleza y el crecimiento del sector del turismo sostenible.

La degradación humana gracias a la tecnología

¿Cómo se relaciona la degradación humana con la tecnología? Es algo cíclico, a medida que hemos ido mejorando y actualizando nuestras máquinas, hemos degradado a los seres humanos, cuando esto debería ser al revés, asegura Gustavo Copelmayer.

La humanidad se ha maravillado ante el desarrollo tecnológico que impulsa, cuando ya la inteligencia artificial no es ciencia ficción. Se ha invertido tanto esfuerzo y energía en este avance, dice Gustavo Copelmayer, que poca atención se ha prestado a los cambios producidos en el cerebro humano.

“Es terrible lo que esta sociedad hace a los niños al exponerlos sin control a la tecnología y con ella, a las redes sociales”, asegura Gustavo Copelmayer y añade también “que se está poniendo en peligro su futuro y desarrollo”.

Algunos investigadores incluso señalan que la generación actual llamada “nativos digitales” presenta un coeficiente intelectual inferior al de sus padres, aunque también es cierto que esta apreciación se ve afectada por factores como el sistema de salud, el sistema escolar, la nutrición y la contaminación ambiental, indica Gustavo Copelmayer. Lo que sabemos con seguridad, es que el tiempo que un niño pasa frente a una pantalla por motivos recreativos, no es el único culpable, pero sí retrasa la maduración anatómica y funcional del cerebro.

Las empresas apuestan a mallas de ciberseguridad

La pandemia por Covid-19, sin duda, ha acelerado la consolidación de la empresa digital, de modo que ahora la mayoría de los ciberactivos de las organizaciones se ubican fuera de una infraestructura física.  Es un proceso que de todas maneras sucedería, “almacenar en un nube y recurrir a esquemas de ciberseguridad como un enfoque práctico y controlado”, refiere Gustavo Copelmayer.

Este concepto de ‘malla de ciberseguridad’ se refiere a aquella tecnología que permita a cualquier persona acceder a cualquier activo digital de forma segura, sin importar dónde se encuentren el activo o la persona. “Se espera que para 2025, la malla de seguridad cibernética, soportará los negocios inteligentes, con mayor eficiencia y concepto ecológico”, asegura Gustavo Copelmayer.

De igual manera, las empresas van ahora de manera irreversible hacia un proceso de hiperautomatización, impulsando un requisito que el consumidor final llama “primero digital” señala Gustavo Copelmayer. “Se espera que para el 2023, 40% de las grandes organizaciones habrá ofrecido a sus clientes y empleados, experiencias virtuales”, concluye.

La ecología política en tendencia

La ecología política es un campo interdisciplinario en constante construcción, se considera una herramienta para el análisis relacionado con el consumo de energía, materiales y los efectos de ciertas tecnologías sobre el medio ambiente, indica Gustavo Copelmayer.

En adición a estos factores, también se toman en cuenta los efectos de la generación de desechos y su impacto en los conflictos socioambientales en diversas escalas.  Esto significa, que el proceso de transformación de la naturaleza se ve alterado en los ecosistemas, los ciclos biogeoquímicos y es lo que a escala mundial se vincula con las crisis económicas y la especulación en el mercado de la tierra y las materias primas.

Entonces, la ecología política, llamada así desde los años 80 del siglo pasado, se gestó como un aporte de distintas disciplinas enfocadas en el estudio especialmente, del conflicto por el acceso, uso y usufructo de la tierra, señala Gustavo Copelmayer.

Por ello es necesario dar cuenta de las actividades que alteran deliberadamente los sistemas naturales con el fin de hacerlos más útiles al sistema de producción y reproducción actual, así como el modelo socioeconómico, es decir, la transformación, distribución y consumo de energía y materiales y los efectos de la generación de desechos.

Extracción de agua subterránea provoca hundimientos

La explotación de acuíferos subterráneos podría generar hundimientos que afectarían al 19% de la población impactando un 12% del PIB global, señala Gustavo Copelmayer, basándose en investigaciones del Instituto Geológico Minero de España.

“Ciudades como Venecia, Yakarta, Tokio y hasta Ciudad de México ya presentan graves problemas que ponen en riesgo el hábitat de la población a pesar de que cuentan con el agua necesaria para sus funciones”, apunta Gustavo Copelmayer.

Esta actividad humana causa efectos negativos en alrededor de 1200 millones de personas en la actualidad, refiere Gustavo Copelmayer.  “Quienes viven en espacios en los que la explotación de pozos subterráneos está generando deslizamientos y hundimientos de terrenos, además de sismicidad inducida, cuentan con un problema latente de supervivencia”, manifiesta.

Y recuerda Gustavo Copelmayer, que incluso en las remotas zonas del norte donde no hay actividad alguna, los efectos del calentamiento global provocan el derretimiento del suelo congelado, el permafrost, lo que a su vez induce más deslizamientos y hundimientos de tierras.
