Get rid of blackheads naturally at home
Blackheads can be a problematic skin issue that is a cause of acne & pimples in the long run. Even if you have clear skin, these tiny black spots will ruin the whole look, making it appear rough and rugged. You mostly get these on your nose & surrounding areas. However, in addition to getting these on your face, your whole body may develop blackheads. Although, they are more common & visible on the face.
Tumblr media
But what exactly are blackheads?
Blackheads are tiny, bulged dots that show up on your skin due to clogged hair follicles. The pores on your skin get clogged with oil, dead skin cells, sebum & dirt. These then get trapped into the hair follicles, taking a black appearance, which is why they are known as blackheads. Although associated commonly with dirt & pollution, blackheads are not only formed due to these reasons. One of the main reasons blackheads come into being is due to the oxidized melanin. Also, when the sebum produced by your skin gets exposed to direct oxygen, it eventually darkens & takes the form of blackheads.
Causes of blackheads
There are various reasons why these tiny spots appear on your face or body.
Excessive production of oil & sebum
Quite obvious, no?  When your skin starts producing excessive oil & sebum, it traps dirt & dead skin cells within, making the pores get clogged with these impurities. These then take a blackish or dark appearance & form blackheads. We even discussed this above.
Hormonal changes
Hormonal changes affect a lot of functions in your body. The fluctuations in hormones leads to an increased sebum & oil production. This in turn leads to blackheads through the same process as mentioned in the above point.
Melanin oxidation
Melanin is a substance in your skin that is responsible for your skin color. This melanin when oxidizes on your skin, takes a darker appearance. This in turn leads to blackheads.
Certain drugs & food practices
Blackheads can also be formed as a side effect of certain drugs. When you take those drugs or medicines, they might come up with certain side effects, one of which might be blackheads & acne. Likewise, certain foods you eat may also be a cause of blackheads & acne etc.
Solutions/remedies of blackheads
Having known about the blackheads & why they are formed, we now come to their solution. You might be delighted to know that you can get rid of blackheads trying out certain effective home remedies too.
Use a deep cleansing face wash or scrub
We now know that blackheads are formed due to the excess oil & sebum that gets trapped within the pores. It is therefore recommended to use a face wash or scrub that ensures deep pore cleansing & clears out all the impurities from within. Also, don’t forget to wash your face several times a day to keep all the oil away.
Remove all the makeup thoroughly
Tumblr media
The makeup particles also get trapped within the pores in addition to oil & dirt which leads to the formation of ‘not-so-appealing’ blackheads on your face. So make sure you always remove your makeup before you go to sleep. Even when not asleep, do remove your makeup first with a good makeup remover or cleansing milk & then wash your face thoroughly with a cleanser or scrub.
Lemon & sugar scrubbing
Lemon is a great ingredient to fight oil & pollution. You can make your own scrubber at home using half cut lemon & some white or brown sugar on it. Rub the cut lemon with sugar on top over the blackheads to work the magic. Remember not to be harsh with it & stay gentle.
Tea tree oil
Applying tea tree oil to the blackhead helps reduce them by killing the bacteria in your skin. With the help of a cotton bud, apply some of it on the affected areas twice or thrice a week. Don’t forget to dilute it in some water or essential oil.
Facial steam
One of the traditional yet the most effective ways to remove blackheads is to go for face steaming. All you have to do is, boil some water, take a cloth or towel, bend on the pot or tub containing hot water (at least 60 cm away from your face), put the cloth or towel on you and take steam. The steam will open your pores and make these blackheads easier to be removed.
Turmeric
Tumblr media
Turmeric has antifungal, antibacterial & antiseptic properties which are quite good to work against blackheads & the bacteria that cause these blackheads. What you need to do is, take a teaspoon of turmeric in a small bowl, add a few drops of warm water in it &| mix well to form a thick paste. Apply this paste on the affected areas for 15 minutes & wash off. You can use turmeric regularly as it makes your skin free of germs & keeps it fresh.
Common mistake you make while trying to get rid of blackheads
What most people do to remove blackheads is, squeezing & scrubbing them out with a rough cloth or any steel tool. Little do they know that this will make the situation even worse & enhance their appearance. It is therefore recommended not to apply any harsh external pressure on your blackheads as to avoid aggravating the condition.
