First snowfall of the season hits South Korea

A cold wave warning was issued Wednesday morning, after Seoul and Incheon received their first snowfall of the season the night before.

According to weather officials, issuing a cold wave advisory in November is unprecedented.

The Korea Meteorological Administration reported the first snowfall of the season in Seoul and Incheon at 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

Seoul got snow nine days later than usual and 19 days later than last year, while Incheon got snow six days later than usual and seven days later than last year.

Jeju Island also received its first snowfall on Wednesday at 5 a.m., 22 days later than last year and the latest since 2010.

The KMA has issued a warning that sudden cold may cause safety incidents. "Roads may freeze because it rained the day before. Additionally, due to low visibility and freezing rain or snow until Thursday, roads will be slippery and dangerous "According to the KMA.

Strong winds and high waves could cause aircraft and ships to be grounded, according to the agency, which urged travelers to double-check travel information ahead of time.

A fishing boat moored in Yeongheung Island, Incheon caught fire

A fire broke out on a fishing boat anchored in Jindu Port, Yeongheung-do, Incheon, and the fire service issued an alert, which was quickly extinguished.

Seoul has approved the renovation of the city's oldest apartment complex in Yeouido

According to officials, the Seoul municipal administration has approved the restoration of the city's oldest apartment complex in the city's Yeouido area into a high-rise complex housing 2,500 people and included a 65-story skyscraper.

The city announced that a renovation plan for Sibeom Apartments, a 24-building complex in Yeouido erected in 1971, had been approved.

Train derails near Yeongdeungpo Station in Seoul, injuring at least 30

A train derailed in downtown Seoul, injuring 30 passengers.

According to the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), the derailment occurred at 20:52 when the Mugunghwa train carrying 275 passengers stopped at Yeongdeungpo Station in Seoul.

Six rail cars, including five carriages, rolled off the track, he added.

The train departed from Yongsan, Seoul at 8:15 pm and was bound for Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, about 180 km south of the capital.

KORAIL employees are working to restore the railway near Yeongdeungpo Station in Seoul, where the cultural train derailment occurred early on the morning of the 7th.

According to KORAIL, as of 11 p.m. that day, 20 passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. However, the Yeongdeungpo Fire Department estimated that about 30 people suffered minor injuries, showing a difference in the number of injured. Inthe aftermath of the deadly Halloween crowd crush in Seoul, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo announced the government will perform safety inspections on crowded public facilities for a month beginning Thursday.

The prime minister unveiled the idea during a government meeting on the accident on Sunday, adding that the crowd crush had increased public concern about safety in everyday life.

Seoul City, according to Han, is also improving its safety management in large-crowd events and demonstrations, such as a marathon race that begins Sunday morning.

The prime minister directed that all central and municipal governments develop preventive safety strategies.

Visits to Mourning Altars for Itaewon Victims Reach 117,000

At least 156 individuals were killed in a deadly crowd crush in the Itaewon neighborhood of Seoul a week ago, and more than 117 thousand mourners paid their respects to the victims at memorial altars erected across the city.

The city reported on Sunday that through Saturday, the final day of the week-long period of national mourning, 117,619 people had visited the altars set up at Seoul Plaza in front of City Hall and 25 others run by regional district offices.

More than 38 thousand people paid their respects at the Seoul Plaza alter throughout the time period, while another 80,000 people did the same at 25 other locations.

From Friday through Saturday, senior government officials and politicians, including President Yoon Suk Yeol, paid their respects.

About 85 minutes later, a police team first arrives at the Itaewon crowd scene

Nearly 85 minutes after the incident began, a police team first turned up at the scene of the Halloween crowd crush in Seoul, according to police statistics released on Sunday.

Two miners recover quickly after being rescued after nine days underground



According to their families, the two miners rescued from a collapsed mine in southeastern South Korea are healing quickly.

The duo, both Parks, aged 62 and 56, escaped alive on Friday after being stranded for more than nine days in the zinc mine in the county of Bonghwa.

They'd been trapped in a 190-meter-deep vertical shaft since the mine collapsed on Oct. 26.

In a separate phone interview, the senior Park stated that he is in good health but suffers from nightmares.

South Korea's new COVID-19 cases fall below 40,000 amid 'twindemic' worries

On Sunday, the number of new coronavirus infections in South Korea dropped below 40,000 amid worries about a potential "twindemic" of COVID-19 and seasonal influenza this winter.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), the nation reported 36,675 new COVID-19 infections, including 66 from outside, increasing the total to 25,838,239 cases.

On November 1, daily infections increased to 58,363 from 18,504 the day before, although they have since started to fall. In spite of concerns about a twindemic, the daily caseload has remained above 40,000 for the previous three days.

Prime Minister Vows Stern Measures After Investigation into Deadly Crush

Following an examination into the fatal Itaewon crowd crush, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has committed to take tough steps and provide the people a full explanation.

Han pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the disaster's cause during opening remarks at a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on Saturday.

He said that in order to avoid a similar disaster in the future, the government will evaluate policies that assure crowd safety as well as inspect all safety systems.

The burial arrangements for every fatality, with the exception of a few foreigners, will be finished by Sunday, according to the prime minister, who also pledged prompt financial assistance for those receiving medical care.
