Introduction post for “What’s Up With Cherry?” !

“Whats up With Cherry?” is a story set in Brooklyn, New York circa 2008 following two highschool seniors Cherry Morello and Comet Diaz as they navigate their messy, intertwined lives. While they transition into their young adulthood, they find themselves confronting their rough past and come to terms with harsh truths.

Cherry, Comet, Dominique, Nicolas, and Alisha were once childhood friends that suffered a falling out once Comet suddenly shuts everyone out nearing the end of middle school. Reasons he keeps to himself results in him wanting nothing to do with anyone, ultimately avoiding anything to do with his past— Cherry included. Leaving Cherry hurt and confused, the two go their separate ways all throughout high-school.

Despite Comet’s one-sided disdain for Cherry, fate seems to have other plans as the threads Comet carefully worked to break apart start to merge again! Now with graduation coming around the corner, Comet finds that no matter how much he tries to forget about this girl, she always sticks out like a sore thumb! Cherry, who has never stopped thinking of Comet, is taking note of the new people he's surrounding himself with… and she's unsure if she likes it!

Riff Pierce

A charismatic, nonchalant, easy going, avoidant and agreeable guy. This cool dude is Swedish-American and a supporting character that is one of Comet’s best friends, who also has an off and on relationship with Riot. He aspires to be a music producer/artist, following after his family’s longstanding and successful influence in the music industry. They’re incredibly well off, but not everything is as it seems for a pretty boy like him.

Jersey “Riot” Ponce De Leon

A hot-headed, stubborn, childish, humorous and reliable gal. This strong babe is a Mexican-American supporting character who is friends with Comet, and has an on and off relationship with Riff. Riot has a passion for playing the drums and singing. She’s incredibly impulsive— a strong trait that helped coined her nickname, Riot. Born into a big family, she struggles to find normalcy in such a busy house with five older brothers!
