Why You Should Consider Hiring A Home Tutor Before P1?
Many believe that it’s not appropriate to hire a professional tutor or give a child a lot of homework before they begin their academic careers and get well-adjusted in Primary 1. But hiring a tutor when the child is in nursery can be extremely beneficial. Let’s have a look at the reasons why you should consider hiring a tutor for your child before they make their foray into Primary 1 class:
1. They will get way ahead of their counterparts
Your child gets all the help and assistance they need right at the comfort of their home. They are introduced to the syllabus AND the basics well before their peers. So when they start out as Primary 1 students, they are essentially just revising the study material in the class! This means that they will ace pop quizzes, viva voce examinations and end of the year tests as well.  [ref: how to study well in class?]
Beginning early gives your child the luxury of learning at his/her own pace. But of course, it’s important to not put too much pressure on them at such a stage. Instead, hire a tutor in Singapore who has experience in dealing with 3-4 year olds, can prepare lessons that are short and entertaining at the same time as well as make use of different tools and methods to make learning fun. After all, this is the only way you can hold the attention of a toddler!
2. Your child will become comfortable in the company of others and get acquainted with the formal learning process
This is extremely important. Many children have stranger anxiety and they can get extremely fearful and distressed on the first day of school if they don’t see their parents around.
However, hiring a tutor before getting them admitted into a school will ensure that your child is able to converse with other people and is comfortable with the idea of spending time and learning from those who are not his/her parents. The tutor will also employ different teaching styles, make him/her listen, read out loud, speak – all of this will make your child Primary 1-ready! He/she will become familiar with the medium of instruction as well as the way things are taught, thus making the transition to proper schooling much more easier.
3. Your child can learn more languages as well as other skills suited to his/her age
Why not? Your child can easily pick up languages at this age as well as get introduced to music, art or even math. This is the time when your child is going through mental, physical and emotional development which is why he/she is able to pick up words and retain them so easily. So if you want to train your child in foreign languages or try out an age-appropriate musical instrument, find a tutor for the same!

Learning Singapore’s Mother Tongues for Primary 1 Education
English is the official medium of instruction in Singapore schools. But with most of the students speaking in English both at home and at school, there appears to be a rising necessity for students to focus on the other official languages or Mother Tongues of Singapore – Malay, Tamil, and Mandarin Chinese.
Apart from being exposed to the heritage languages, being acquainted with at least one of these three languages is crucial to the child’s success. This is because Mother Tongue Languages are compulsory in PLSEs, as well as A-levels and O-levels. The aim is to make students proficient in at least two languages.
Tumblr media
But learning the other three languages can become an issue for the child, especially when “monolingualism” becomes the norm, with English dominating even in the home. Parents often struggle with helping their children when it comes to second language subject homework. Many others also worry when their kids have to make the transition from kindergarten to Primary 1 since their hold over this important subject is not that strong. But this can be solved by actively making the language the part of the child’s life. Here are some ways you can help your child to learn Mother Tongue Languages:
  Hire a tutor
If your grasp over the language is not that good, then consider hiring a personal language tutor for your child. The child will require individual attention to learn the language so that he/she faces no problems after getting admitted to Primary 1. Whether it is Tamil, Malay or Mandarin Chinese, the concerned tutor will employ different teaching methods to make language learning fun for your child.
  Storytelling sessions, games, and songs!
If you are a bilingual and know Malay, Chinese or Tamil, then read bedtime stories to your kid in the language! This will be extremely helpful as the child will pick up previously-unknown words as well as gradually learn how to frame simple sentences. [reference: learn Malay language]
Use building blocks, extremely simple “fill in the blanks” games as well as puzzles to teach the language to your child. Make it fun and interesting because only then will the child retain it in the long-term memory.
Another very useful way to teach someone a new language is to sing songs to them. You can try nursery rhymes in the language and encourage your child to sing along with you. Remember to repeat it as frequently as possible because repetition is at the center of the language learning process.
These are just some of the ways to learn the Mother Tongues. Have more? Then share with us in the comments section below!

How To Score Well In A Levels Economics Exam?
Many students find economics really boring because of how theoretical it can get at times. But connect it to real-world 21st-century examples and voila! The drab, old subject becomes suddenly interesting because you are able to apply the theories and the ‘-isms’ to real scenarios as well as the current economy of the nation.
At the same time, you need to go about methodically when you study economics because going through it haphazardly won’t really get you anywhere. Follow these steps if you want to score jaw-dropping marks in the subject!
  1. Don’t Miss Your Notes In Class
Make sure that you highlight all the keywords. Write down whatever the teacher teaches in class. When you go back home, open the textbook and read the chapter. Add all the extra information that you read to your notes to prepare exam-worthy answers from day 1 itself.
  2. Watch Educational Videos On YouTube
You need not just rely on printed material such as textbooks and the like for basics and contemporary theories. Instead, watch YouTube animated explainer/presentation videos which simplify complicated topics for beginners. You can also watch professors from reputed universities deliver lectures that throw light on extremely relevant issues. Make sure that you take notes while watching!
  3. Study Textbook With Focus
Don’t read your economics textbook like a novel. Instead, you need to engage in some active reading of the text. When you read a chapter, write down all the important exam-worthy topic names and tick them off as you finish reading each topic. Also, you can also look for books that simplify economic theories for the common folk. Talk to your economics tutor or visit a library to find more books on the same.
One of the best ways to gain a comprehensive understanding of a specific economic theory is to read the original text by the theorist. For instance, to understand Marx’s ideology, read “The Communist Manifesto” rather than trying to understand his ideas by just reading one paragraph added in the textbook. If you find it too complicated, then look for explainer videos and summaries online.
  4. Clear You Doubts
If you are unable to see any difference between say, two economic theories, then we have a problem. For instance, you might not be able to distinguish between socialism and communism. Similarly, some students find it extremely difficult to identify the characteristics of an economic system. If you are one of them then you need to ask questions to your teacher ASAP so that you have more conceptual clarity. Talk to your parents about hiring an economics tutor if you want to enhance your understanding of the subject.

All the Types of Numbers Out There Explained
The Types of Numbers Out There Explained!
Oh, it seems that your tryst with numbers has begun and how! Right after children memorize the numbers, they are introduced to the forms that a number might come in, i.e., they are introduced to the types of numbers out there. Now, this can get pretty confusing and complicated if the types of numbers are taught in 1-3 periods at school. Children might find it difficult to differentiate between the numerous types when they are introduced to them. So let’s make it easier for them by revising the types of numbers, shall we?
Whole Numbers
Now mathematics can do little without whole numbers and so it’s very important that you know them! But don’t worry, this is the easiest thing out there. Basically, all the numbers – starting from 0 – are whole numbers. These numbers are never fractions and they are positive integers. [also known as integer]
  Natural Numbers
How do you start counting when you are asked to do the same? You start counting 1, 2, 3, 4… and so on, right? 0 does not have any inherent value in isolation and therefore we naturally start counting from 1 when we need to count something. So, the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on are natural numbers, also called counting numbers.
Pro Tip: How do you remember the difference between natural and whole numbers? It’s simple; just remember that the whole number 0 has a (w)hole in it!
Tumblr media
Rational Numbers
Rational numbers are the ones that can be present like p/q. Here, both p and q are integers and q is neither zero nor equal of zero. But wait, what are integers? Pretty simple, they are the whole numbers but they also include the negative numbers, which are called negative integers.
These rational numbers can be written as simple fractions and short, no-nonsense ratios.
Irrational numbers
Digit combinations such as 1.414213562373… which have no end in the near horizon are irrational numbers because it’s impossible to write it as a simple fraction. The most famous irrational number is the value of π (Pi).
Memorizing all the types might seem very daunting at first, but you can write down all the definitions (along with examples) on a chart paper and go through it every day to ensure that you know which is which! Parents can also consider hiring a math tutorfor the same.
