I got the wonderful opportunity to see Labyrinth on the big screen last week (thank you Fathom Events) and I think this time around really helped me nail down one of the things that makes this movie so special to me: the ending message.
A story with a somewhat childish sixteen-year-old girl who immerses herself in magic and fantasy worlds who goes through a journey and a transformation and comes out the other side more mature could very easily have ended with the message of "Now that the adventure in the fantasy world is over, our heroine has grown and matured enough to leave magic and fantasy behind and become an Adult."
But Labyrinth doesn't do that.
Labyrinth says: "You might grow up a little. You might put away your costumes and your music box and your crown. You might give your teddy bear to your little brother. But that doesn't mean you have to leave it all behind. Every so often in your life, for no reason at all, you might need a little magic back in your life. And your friends in the fantasy world will always be there for you."

"Should you need them."

i hope you don't take this in a negative way but what is it about charles that makes you rate him so highly? what is it about charles that makes you believe in him so completely? like what is it about him that makes the tifosi love him so much? what is it about him that makes ferrari love him so much? (i have never forgotten about that one article that called charles ferrari's "little champion in the making") i ask not because i don't believe but because my cousin doesn't and i don't know how to explain to him why i have such faith in charles and i hoped you might be able to put it into words better than me.
i don't know if there is one, universal answer to this. it probably varies a lot but i think a lot of the protectiveness and love we feel over him come from the fact that he joined ferrari so young and we have seen him grow and mature as a person and as a driver. it also helps that he is lovely and kind, puts A LOT of effort into interacting with tifosi (maybe triple any other driver we've had), and genuinely loves the team (a love he declares just as much as he shows). i have NEVER in five years heard a single bad word from anyone who's met him or knows him, in fact the most common words used to describe him are probably: polite, genuine, kind. it's why people like him and why ferrari love him so much. but it goes way beyond that. he is the first ferrari academy driver and in many ways he embodies the ferrari driver archetype exactly as enzo ferrari envisioned it. i always feel silly trying to put this into words, because at the end of the day it widely depends on your personal preferences, but i do believe that there are drivers who are capable of evoking real emotion with their driving, and charles happens to be one of those. maybe it partially has to do with how he is and his personal story as well, but his racing radiates a hunger and grit that i don't really get from others.
as for his capabilities and talent i think they are undeniable to anyone who's watched him drive. personally, my feelings and faith in him are constantly solidified by the fact that he keeps evolving and learning and adapting. i haven't seen him stall once, not even during the anni horribiles we've had at ferrari. he is relentless, self-critical and extremely honest about his mistakes and shortcomings (which is a rarity with f1 drivers) – and so far he has always learned from them and/or overcome them.
i am aware all of this may seem like a whole lot of nothing written by a nobody, so maybe the best way to include a bit of objectivity is not to read tweets and tumblr posts ot listen to pundits, sports journalists and podcast hosts, but to look into what people who have worked with him and raced alongside or against him have to say. and words from max verstappen, lewis hamilton, sebastian vettel, jock clear, beat zehnder, massimo rivola, etc. all seem to reflect similar estimations to my own.

I... didn't know that. I just knew he was increasingly descending into mental illness but that absolutely won't excuse this.
Everyone knows about Laure's memoirs' unaccoutability but I don't see how it could serve her to invent such a thing years later, and as you said there's also Lorel Metternich's letters.
My God.
The Metternichs about Junot
Metternich to Mme Metternich, 14 February 1810 It is with true sorrow that I take up my quill today. Your letter of 26 January contains one of the scenes that show us the people of 1792 and 1793 exposed and naked. Place a being like J[unot] in a very high position, he will drink blood without letting any misgivings stop him.
That’s Metternich reacting to the news of the scandal Junot had caused after having discovered the correspondence between his wife Laure and Metternich, proving they had had an affair. Metternich himself was not in Paris at the time but had left some time after the war of 1809 between France and Austria had begun, and in the meantime had taken over the ministry of foreign affairs in Austria. However, Lorel Metternich with the kids had stayed in Paris, and Junot had dragged her right in the middle of a scene of severe domestic violence that she immediately informed her husband of, with the help of a secret agent Metternich had in Paris, Benoit des Androuins.
Interestingly, Lorel Metternich at first does not mention any involvement of Caroline Murat in this event, she only lists her as one of the people gossipping about it.
Other than that, Lorel apparently behaved as prudently as she could once she had entered Junot’s house. According to the letter by Androuins, Junot had forced Laure to write a message to Lorel, urgently inviting her over. On entering, Lorel found Laure Junot crying on the sofa, hiding her face in both hands. - According to Laure’s own journal intime, the last hours had been a nightmare for her, including rape and attempted murder. - Once Lorel Metternich was in the room, Junot locked the door behind both women and started to rage against Metternich, demanding Lorel take revenge upon him etc. The only thing Lorel answered was: "But you are mistaken, Monsieur le Duc. This is not my husband’s handwriting." - Despite the fact she had obviously recognized it. Again, according to Laure’s journal intime, she at some point managed to silently ask Laure if she could do something for her.
Despite Lorel’s calm reaction, the scene must have scared her a lot. At least she seems rather relieved to learn that the Junots were to leave the capital, when she writes to her husband:
Bluebeard has finally left with his amazon and, as I am assured, probably never to return.
"Bluebeard" obviously referring to Junot.
Edit: Forgot to add the source for the two letters: Conti, "Metternich und die Frauen", Vol. 1 - The description of what may (or not) have happened during the night when Laure was alone with Junot are a brief summary of the excerpts from Laure's "journal intime" quoted in Toussaint du Wast, "Laure Junot". It is to be noted that this "journal intime" may have been written years after the event for Balzac, and that it is per se unverifiable.
However, Lorel Metternich calling Junot "Bluebeard" at least strongly hints at her, too, being convinced that Junot had physically abused and possibly tried to murder Laure.

The Emperor said he was well convinced that he was the individual whom Josephine loved best in all the world: and he added, with a smile, that he was sure she would have relinquished any assignation to attend him. She never failed to accompany him on all his journeys. Neither fatigue nor privation could daunt her; and she employed importunity and even artifice to gain her point. "If I stepped into my carriage at midnight, to set out on the longest journey, to my surprise I found Josephine all ready prepared, though I had had no idea of her accompanying me. ‘But,’ I would say to her, ‘You cannot possibly go, the journey is too long and will be too fatiguing for you.’—‘Not at all,’ Josephine would reply. ‘Besides, I must set out instantly.’—‘Well, I am quite ready.’—‘But you must take a great deal of luggage.’—‘Oh, no! every thing is packed up;‘ and I was generally obliged to yield. In a word, Josephine rendered her husband happy, and constantly proved herself his sincerest friend. At all times and on all occasions, she manifested the most perfect submission and attachment; and thus I shall never cease to remember her with tenderness and gratitude.
Memoirs of the life, exile, and conversations of the Emperor Napoleon. Vol. II

“I who love you with the affection of a savage for the sun, I who am ENTIRELY YOURS. Well then: this eternal war that we must fight for you, I WANT NO MORE OF IT! I WANT PEACE!”
—Jean-Andoche Junot’s last letter to Napoleon. They were best friends for 20 years. Junot succumbed to early onset dementia and died later that year in 1813 due to several severe head injuries throughout his career. It is one of the many great tragic endings from that time.
