Typhoon Ondoy
Typhoon Ondoy
Typhoon Ondoy hit the Philippines year 2009. It brought heavy rainfalls and including the flooding of the Marikina River. It almost reached the 16 meters water level, the residents' alarmed by the government to evacuate. It drowned the Metro Manila because of massive flooding. It includes Rizal's provinces. The waters rose so fast that people living in low-lying areas were caught unaware and had to stay on the roofs of their houses to avoid being swept away by the floods. At least 140 died from the storm, and more than 450,000 people have been displaced and have sought shelter in schools, churches, and other evacuation shelters. Electricity has been cut in submerged areas for safety reasons. Generators and water systems have been damaged by floodwater as well it rises. Public and private infrastructure and property, as well as agriculture, have been destroyed or damaged. According to a report, Typhoon Ondoy has killed at least 83 people, with 23 others missing. The 60,000 people were brought to emergency shelters, adding a total of more than 330,000 people affected. In the evacuation centers, cramped conditions and limited water and sanitation facilities pose the risk of worsening health conditions. Nutrition is also a concern, given the irregular provision of instant food products. Communication through telephones is almost impossible, and many turn to the Internet to get direct updates. It was a news updates from televisions. Besides news updates from online publishers, Filipinos away from their homeland are anxiously checking for updates through social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr. Social media plays an important role. It tackles the Filipino resident that was affected by Typhoon Ondoy. The two hashtags have been adopted after Tropical Storm Ondoy. First is #RescuePH, which use when someone needs rescuing or has knowledge of someone in need of rescue. Second is #ReliefPH, which is used by social media users that have information on individuals and communities in need of relief goods and services. The hashtag is also used as a catch-all for updates on relief aid provided. It also helps people worldwide to donate food, money, and clothes. Social media lessen the pain of every Filipino during that time.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) refers to all communication technologies. ICT can help us communicate and interact with each other through social media platforms, SMS or call. ICT has a role in our lives today because we aren't able to meet, face to face classes, etc. The internet helps the community to act as one.
