The more I think about the Watcher situation, the more frustrated I get because like, I would've easily paid for a couple of physical Blu-Rays instead of paying for yet another streaming service. Sure, it'd be more money to shell out, especially if it was a limited one time run type of deal, but I would rather pay to physically own shows like Ghost Files, Mystery Files, Wish Granted or Puppet History than ever worry about another subscription. And although physical media's on the decline, I can't be the only one that feels this way, right? I feel like that's yet another free idea that could've gotten a much better reception than abandoning YouTube.

I genuinely don't get why Watcher Entertainment didn't take a page out of Kinda Funny Games (a gaming/entertainment media company that posts content on Youtube, Twitch and Patreon)'s book. Watcher could've easily done a big Fundraiser stream on Youtube and let people donate to help fill in a big bar with different promises or goals they'll commit to finishing by the end of 2025. That would've made infinitely more sense and would've easily resonated with their massive audience instead of trying to make their own exclusive streaming platform that'll alienate essentially their entire fanbase to generate slightly more income. With how beloved Watcher is and with how people essentially grew up with Watcher (since the BuzzFeed days of course), the fanbase would've easily been comfortable with donating whatever money they wanted to donate just for the sake of giving back. Being straight up about needing funding and marketing a fundraising stream with more unlocks/goals being revealed as we got closer to the Fundraising stream date would've legitimately excited people to give back. Instead, they're making what might be the worse mistake possible of 2024 thus far.

I’m starting to see now: I have had an effect here … but not the one I intended. Vengeance won’t change the past—mine, or anyone else’s. I have to become more. People need hope; to know someone’s out there for them.
