Sorry my posts haven't been as frequent or funny as usual. It's because I'm eating well, sleeping regularly, and exercising

very old art for my GCSE's, I'm posting them here or they'll be lost forever lol. Our theme was natural forms so my autisic ass chose a very specific species haha. I wish I'd not put the drips in, and worked on the scales properly, but cut me some slack I was a tired 15 year old. I still like the second one. Might recreate one day

COMING THIS SUMMER:
7 MONTHS 36 ARTISTS 1 REALLY PERSISTENT SKELETON
IT'S THE 2023 TRUNGOTHON MEGA ART TELEPHONE GAME
[RATED R]

RIDICULOUS. this was so big that even with tumblr's recently expanded image limit i still had to weld every other image together to fit it into one post, but if you want to see every image in its full glory, i made a page for it on my website (jankily hand-coded and probably not very mobile friendly).
it was so fun to see which elements stuck around and for how long. i still can't believe the skeleton got banished and then resurrected 15 iterations later!
huge thanks to everyone who participated. in order:
@mobileleprechaun, ink drinker, @dimetrodrawn, @escherbug, @gachimushi, @ikrutt, @dunwichdrawsstuff, @mathpope, @bedupolker, @solidagold, @a-beepbop, thenauticalwarlock, @ohpsshaw, @eisly, @juenavei, me, @librivore42, @greedol, @mechabutchzilla, @phanta-friends, @tickfleato, @skelizard, elixer, @espimyte, @noctomnis-art, @bluedotjpeg, @fetus-cakes, @iguanodont, @flame-shadow, @kombuchaclock, @slimekingmike, @crtastrophe, @leona-florianova, @skelebee, @nutspider, @palossssssand, and gachimushi again for the header image to this post
whew! now time to seriously consider a yearlong 72-artist game...

Blackwater Dive
2024, hand bleached and dyed denim, cotton batting and thread
inspired by blackwater photography of plankton! this was my first time layering bleach painting. All the silhouettes were painted with bleaching gel, loosely tie dyed, and then bleached again to make the highlights. I quilted the piece using my free motion foot to outline each individual animal and tacked down the rest of the quilt with small satin stitches that remind me of marine snow. I dyed bias tape to match. super happy with this one and excited to show it in a gallery setting soon!

Daily fish fact #533
Chinese paddlefish!
Tumblr media
It was one of the two recently still extant species of paddlefish, until it was declared extinct in 2022, of course. They were native to the Yangtze River basin, living their adult lives near the coast and migrating up rivers to spawn. The other current species of paddlefish is still extant.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
A see-through fish? Now that's just supernatural! That's why this species is commonly referred to as the ghost catfish; these fish lack body pigment of any kind in their skin or muscles. However, that doesn't mean they are without color! In fact, scientists recently discovered that special structures within the ghost catfish's muscles can refract light as it passes through their bodies, causing them to light up in a brilliant rainbow.

Also it generally bothers me how animals must be human like in order to garner affection from most people, it's such a joke that people believe in ”speciesm" the oppression of animals because they are different from us, yet many of these same people try to paint x or y animal as valuable by comparing it to people or pointing out a trait of it that's similar to humans. Like it's beautiful how loving whale moms are to their calves like humans, yes, but is that why we should care about them? shouldn't we also care about them if they weren't loving moms? aren't they still valuable to the world even if they cannibalized their children? or do you only care about other living creatures if they are like us?
What about parasites? bloodsucking ticks? wasps that lay their eggs in dead spiders they've paralyzed, rat mothers that eat half their newborns? newborn caecillians that eat their mother's delicious skin? the earthworm that has no sense of morality, altruism, or parental love? aren't they worthy too? do they have to be like us to be loved?
