I think part of what comes down to it is in ARR eyrie is an uncomfortable realist amongst hopeful dreamers. the tragedy of post calamity is still very fresh to them—the peace they have now is fragile, and they don’t want to lose it. they do not have the same personally held hopes and dreams that minfilia and alphinaud have—it still hurts too much

me rotating ARR politics in my head always leads me to rotating minfilia in my head
#I don’t think she would ever be ignorant of the sort of harm that came about w the bloody banquet#or rather naïve of such circumstances coming to pass#she grew up in ul’dah. her youth was defined by struggle and anger#like goddamn 1.0 Minfilia is MAD and justifiably so considering she was a child and her father was killed#but she’s so compassionate and hopeful to people in a way that puts some blinders on#and she is still young and trying to guide this organization#and trying to solve these huge problems#I wanna replay the ARR patches w the braves to really kinda look at stuff#bc I think about like. how did we get this far w the braves without thinking that an independent military organization isn’t going#to have 3747484 grubby hands trying to get into it#i dunno if it’s weird writing or if im missing something#this is what i get for thinking about this so much#and making eyrie so decisive on this topic#let the record be shown that I do think Minfilia is interesting#ARR exists in my head in the weird realm of I sure do like thinking about this but I cannot play through it for the life of me#owen talks

Why Lolorito despite being a Ruthless Ammoral Capitalist is actually still a better person than a modern day CEO.
He actually pays those under his employ fairly well from what I can gather considering the kind of loyalty they seem to have for Lolorito. Money is a powerful motivator.
The thing Lolorito cares about above his own wealth, is Ul’dah.
He still has standards as to what he will and will not do for profit.
What does a Modern CEO care about more than profit? Their own Wallet, to the detriment of everyone around them so long as they have fat stacks of cash.
#rotating the politics in ARR in my head is so much fun to do#bc there is so much there as it happens when there is a new political power forming#I’m sure tensions were on the rise for those who Knew What Could Happen when the WoL killed ifrit#even more so when the scions relocated to politically neutral territory and there was no leverage to be held over them#no wonder there were so many fingers in the crystal braves#ffxiv

I personally think Y'shtola deserves some more credit for how she advocates for the Warrior of Light during Shadowbringers. Without knowing the whole story I've always felt she had every right to be uneasy with the Exarch, and to be honest I was expecting a pricklier welcome from her in Rak'tika... but as soon as she realizes who it is, her greeting for the WoL is incredibly warm. I love that her first question is "How are you?" She cares about them! And when her aethersight gives her reason to believe the WoL is in danger, she's concerned! She thinks they need to be told! And when Urianger won't agree to tell them, she does it herself, because she thinks it's the right thing to do. She treats the Warrior of Light like a person who deserves to know what they're getting into and make an informed decision, and it's such a far cry from the "You'll do it because you're the Warrior of Light!" attitudes of everyone in ARR.
And I think it's also worth noting that in the end, after she knows the whole truth, she doesn't seem to hold any of it against G'raha. When you're back in the Source, she's talking about whether he should be given the title of Nunh after his long tenure as the Crystal Exarch, and after he joins the Scions, she seems cool with him, so I genuinely have no reason to think she holds a grudge about any of it.
She was, ultimately, concerned and wanted to do the right thing, and she cares about the Warrior of Light and their wellbeing, and I think that's an important thing about her.
