Dressing and Burning Ancestor Candles

I’m about to dress and burn these ancestor candles while I meditate and hang out with some departed family members. The pennies will go under the candles after they’re dressed as an offering for my relatives to come into my space and talk with me, or just hang with me. The oil I’m using is a mixture I just did real quick: frankincense, rosemary, peppermint, lavender, and eucalyptus. The herbs are a mixture of jasmine buds, lavender, rose petals, mugwort, lemon, lemongrass, and forget-me-not flowers. I always go a little overboard with how many different kinds of oils and herbs I use, but better safe than sorry, right?😂 Oh, and some honey for sweetness! Herbs and oils properties that I chose them for are listed below.

Anyway, I chose a green candle for my grandfather (Pop) since that was his favorite color, and white for my great grandmother who passed before I was born, so it can stand in for her favorite color until I learn more about her. I carved their names on the candles along with some runes to reinforce my intention. I also have a few random things sitting in the space that my ancestors had asked me to put on their altar, so I know they really like them and are drawn to them.

Though I never knew my great grandmother, I was really close to my Pop before he passed away in 2019. He left us after an emergency quadruple bypass open heart surgery and two week coma. The trauma of holding his hand as he took his last breath nearly killed me and I was so heartbroken and lost until he started making it reallllllllly obvious that he’s still sticking around to watch over me. I‘ve never tried this spell before today, but I’ll update on how it goes.

For the herbs, I chose jasmine for love and abundance, rose for love and to ask them to speak with me through my clairs, lavender for spiritual contact, mugwort for help with divination and psychic power, lemon for spiritual opening and friendship, lemongrass for love, spirit communication, and psychic power, and forget-me-nots so that they’ll remember me like I remember them.

For the oils, I chose peppermint for purification and psychic awareness, rosemary for love and remembrance, frankincense to purify and help with meditation, spirit contact, and psychic power, eucalyptus to purify and help heal any ancestral trauma or baggage they’re carrying, and lavender for purification, love, healing, and raising psychic ability.
