If anyone is curious why I just did these ones it's because these are the ones relevant to me and my direct loved ones. I'm not slighting anyone I just had limited energy

I am taking you gently by the hands and telling you to find a social circle that isn't just your Tumblr dash

Preferably one with links to your local community

"but there is nothing where I live!"

Is that a fact or are you placing unreasonable expectations?

Are you avoiding the local knitting group because everyone else is 60+? Then you are missing out

Are you avoiding the local creative writing group because its on Zoom? Then you are missing out

Are you avoiding [insert group here] because not everyone is ideologically pure? Then you are missing out

You need to meet with people outside your bubble.

You need to meet people who you will strongly disagree with on some things but still find kind and personable because they will remind you that people who aren't ideologically pure are still human beings

You need to meet with people to get different perspectives and to experience life and to challenge yourself

And a lot of these groups are not as easy to find as you think

You need to look at paper signs in post office windows or facebook or ask your therapist if they know of any groups related to [interest]

You need a mix of things relating to interests, identity, and politics

You don't have to become best friends with everyone at these places but being friendly will earn you some friends and a lot do acquaintances

You have to put yourself out there because otherwise you will struggle more

And I say this as someone who has been very isolated and fought my way out

I understand it’s difficult to be a parent but it’s time we start telling parents bluntly it’s not the internet responsibility to keep your child safe it’s your responsibility to keep your child safe on the internet

I will say though I have gotten this angrily said on posts I have written about my own experience because I said "neurodivergent"

But I am multiple things under that umbrella besides autistic (and I'm not ADHD) and sometimes it is genuinely hard for me to tell if it's say the CPTSD or the autism. So I say neurodivergent when talking about it, and people yell at me for saying neurodivergent because they assume I'm saying autistic/adhd.

Other times I'm definitely talking about multiple things outside of autism and ADHD and say neurodivergent and people still yell at me for using the term because they assume I mean autistic and ADHD

Maybe the problem is on both sides

please stop treating the word neurodivergent like it means the overlap between autism and adhd

Part of that is building social networks for you and your child so your kid has multiple people they can go to if they see or experience something upsetting

If the government wanted to actually protect children it would provide more resources for parents, especially when their kids are young, so they are decently supported and can grow a community. They would also make sure teens have third spaces where they can go and be teens

Policing the internet is not going to fix anything

I understand it’s difficult to be a parent but it’s time we start telling parents bluntly it’s not the internet responsibility to keep your child safe it’s your responsibility to keep your child safe on the internet

From what I understand having watched ATLA but only heard a lot about Percy Jackson is they both do this

Except with ATLA it's the audience going "Yay kids! But also this is fucked up really"

Whereas Percy Jackson (from my understanding) is him angrily saving the world while yelling "I SHOULD BE AT THE (metaphorical) CLUB"

I love how Avatar perfectly balances "the kids are going to save the world!" with "which is pretty fucked up, actually."
