I clicked the wrong post somewhere along the way and now I keep getting TERF posts, gender essentialism, and transphobia on my dashboard and it pisses me off. Women are women, infertile women are women, trans women are women, and masc presenting women are women. Get out of here with that bullshit gender essential, biphobic, and transphobic rhetoric.
Firstly, misandry is not the solution to misogyny or patriarchy. Men are not the enemy. Secondly, even if men were the enemy trans women are not men! Trans women are not ā€œinvading women’s spacesā€. Get over yourselves! What’s even worse is a majority of these posts I’ve seen have been coming from lesbians. A group that in the past would have been labeled and insulted in the very same way.
Equality will never be reached through hatred nor if the queer community keeps cannibalizing itself.

Bi4Bi John Watson and Mary Mortensen is my favorite thing. Thank you Sherlock and Co for giving us bisexual Mary so we can be one step closer šŸ’™šŸ’•šŸ’œ
The only thing that makes it better is adding in asexual queer platonic Sherlock to the Bi4Bi John/Mary

Omegaverse is just a way for people to assert gender essentialism and heteronormativity onto (primarily mlm) queer relationships. And it’s one of my biggest icks in fanfiction.

I never liked elementary because it destroyed the queerness that I feel is integral to Sherlock Holmes. I would have much preferred that they commit to the gender swap and gender swap all of the characters. Instead they decided to make it painfully heterosexual and only allowed the swap of the sidekick and not the genius detective. Like you’re going to make one character a woman (although I do like that they stayed platonic) and not change any other character and call it diversity. Not to say I don’t love the idea of a female Watson, I just think if Watson is a woman then Sherlock should be too. Gotta keep the homoerotic undertones going (on this note Rizzoli & Isles is a better genderswap Sherlock Holmes adaptation than elementary). Also, if you were to genderswap only one I think Sherlock is the better option over Watson (as no matter the adaptation Watson is defined by their relationship to Holmes).
Now I’m not sure why I thought Watson would be any different, but I think it might be worse. They commit the ultimate sin of making Irene Alder a sexual conquest and then throw Mrs. Hudson in for good measure. It destroys any of the incredible queer platonic undertones that dog the Sherlock and John relationship. Watson also has John more bummed about his divorce than about his actual best friend literally dying. Like by trying to get Watson to become a character of his own they have gutted any of the original care these characters had for each other.
Imagine my surprise when I find out that Elementary and Watson have a creative team in common. One who seems very steeped in heteronormativity. Idk, I guess I just wanted more.
(Time to go watch Rizzoli & Isles again)

We should celebrate the 10th anniversary of the legalization of marriage equality, but we also must remember in this moment when the rights of LGBTQ people in this country are under constant assault that it can all disappear in a moment.
This is the country we will go back to if the conservatives on the Supreme Court have openly said they want. We much fight to prevent any backslide, and fight to restore the rights that have already been stripped from us, especially trans right which have been attacked particularly cruely.
Our community fights as one or we all fall.

Look I know almost nothing about Jojo Siwa. I was never a fan, but I also never felt all that antagonistic towards her. However, I want to address the newest wave of hate that has reached my strange little corner of the internet, I have some things to say. Firstly, I haven’t done a deep dive on this and so maybe I’m not informed.
Jojo Siwa dating a man does not erase her queer identity! Jojo Siwa dating a man does not necessarily mean she is straight. Honestly, the vitriol I’ve seen spewed toward her is kinda disgusting. Like do I like her? Not really. Do I think she deserves base respect and to have her queer identity validated (if that’s how she still identifies)? YES!
The second part of this is people pushing back against her claim that she felt pressured by the LGBTQ+ community to identify as Lesbian. Firstly, I think this is an immflamatory statement and I would word it differently, but I also sympathize with the sentiment. As some who has a polysexual identity I also feel that pressure. If I (a woman) express attraction to a man in queer spaces I often get comments about how I am ā€œa straight girl looking for attentionā€ or ā€œtoo man obsessed to date a womanā€ or ā€œI’m a traitor to queer women because an attraction to men is inherently dirty and less pure than attraction to womenā€. I sometimes debate just identifying as gay to avoid the pushback. So Jojo Siwa who was dating a woman at the time identifying as lesbian makes sense, because our society is inherently more accepting of monosexuality over polysexuality.
Finally, if she hasn’t said she is exploring or confusing about her sexuality her dating a man does not mean that she’s confused! I’m seeing a lot of biphobia being perpetrated because people don’t like Jojo Siwa. Even if it turns out she is straight and was only dating a woman for the ā€˜clout’ (which seems unlikely to me, but again I am uninformed) the biphobia being perpetrated is real and harmful.
A queer woman dating a man is not a betrayal of the community and we need to stop pushing that narrative.
Now if you can’t see past your hatred of Jojo Siwa to see what I’m saying, just look at the similar vitriol spewed at Fletcher when she had a boyfriend or Billie Elish when she started dating a man. People hear queer and equate it to easily digestible identities like gay and lesbian and then perceive anything outside of their narrow view of identity and sexual as problematic or betrayal.

I wanted it so bad, but I couldn’t make myself believe it would ever actually happen. It’s still so disappointing. However, as soon as the unplanned pregnancy storyline started I was out of there so fast. One of my biggest icks tbh. I haven’t watched an episode since and to be honest it seems like I haven’t missed anything.
It’s still such a bummer it could have been truly great, but has devolved into another dime a dozen overly dramatic heteronormative barely average drama.
look most of me is so so mad about the ody3 but a part of me just can't remember the last time i got baited so hard and so effectively! impressive shit. I 10,000% believed that shit was gonna happen i was so fucking sure esp after they first fucked

Gave the ā€˜Call Her Daddy’ podcast a try because I love media that centers women and their lives. Except it really centers men, perpetuates heteronormativity, and focuses on conventional ideas of women’s attractiveness in the male gaze. I wanted it to focus on women in all their complexities, existence, their inner lives, I wanted women to be the focus. Instead men are the focus indirectly through their ā€˜importance of women’s lives’. Idk if later episodes get better, but I don’t relate to this podcast or its worldview. I was so excited for a new podcast with a large backlog and now I’m just disappointed.

there are many things i personally dislike about the addams family musical (that’s a post for another time), but one of my main ones is wednesday and lucas’ relationship in the show. nothing about it feels like a ā€˜forbidden romanceā€ or whatever it just feels like two overdramatic teens in an average relationship. what I think would’ve made it better is if they made it queer! make it sapphic, transfem lucas would also make the dynamic with unaccepting parents deeper. make it even so that it’s all the addams actively supporting wednesday and lucas instead of just fester and the ancestors. this would heavily change the plot and remove some songs, but given the plot is my biggest issue, changing it up wouldn’t be so bad.

The way nature intended tbh.
i feel like tumblr would like to know that i was in a production of the addams family musical where everything was the same but lucas was actually a girl named luna and her and wednesday were lesbians

I think this about most things, but with the Addams Family Musical it’s especially true.
Can we all agree that the addams family musical would be 10x better if it was lesbian

i have something to say. AI is scraping the whole internet while it learns how to string words together so it can become smart enough to take most of our jobs. it will scrape everything, read books and watch movies and videos and look at digitized forms and pictures and licenses and whatever it can find on the internet and even outside of the internet, it scrapes your work systems it reads your documents and powerpoints and emails. until they find another shiny new toy to sell to each other, the corps will keep AI alive and hungry. the future is unclear and scary and wild. all i have is art and writing and stories and sharing them with you with no motives other than because i love stories and you, a person with a heart and soul that needs art like air, you do too. i will continue to write even if AI eats every word as soon as i type it. and i will still share it with you because i love writing and i love you

I 100% agree that the good queer literature exists, but it’s also difficult to find! I try to shop primarily in used bookstores and living in conservative states means that the literature I have access to skews away from queer. If I walk into a used bookstore I’m going to have to sift through vasts amounts of straight literature to even have the hope of finding even a popular queer book. There are some pieces of queer literature that I love, but I had to specifically purchase those from an online used bookstore to even get access.
At some point I think the check box list of queer representation in books is in response to this scarcity. It makes the queer literature that people can find more palatable and escapist. Idk, I think it’s hard because I dislike romance as a central plot in books, but finding any contemporary book that doesn’t center romance in some way is an act of intense filtering. I’m more tolerant to queer romance over straight as I find it more enjoyable, particularly wlw. However, most of the queer literature I tend to find organically in used bookstores shops are mlm.
Anyway, I kinda lost the plot. I agree that the queer literature exists, but it’s hard to find organically and I think this scarcity is what leads to popular queer literature to be formulaic and ā€˜unproblematic’ to meet the taste of the largest audience possible.
the infuriating thing is that there is genuinely so much good queer literature out there, contemporary and not, but there is also a sizeable chunk of readers who think that a book only "counts" as good queer literature if it's a) unproblematic, b) contains romance as its central focus, and c) has the characters state their orientation and/or gender identity directly to the audience using socially acceptable 21st-century terms (as opposed to resorting to cowardly tactics such as Subtext and Themes)

In the middle of a mental health crisis and I’m probably gonna fail the exam I have tomorrow. I’ve been failing apart for about the last week.
I’ve been practicing being kind to myself and so I thought to myself ā€œit’s gonna be okay you’re doing your bestā€ except that made me feel 100 times worst because my best right now really sucks.
Anyway I’m dreading waking up tomorrow and having to face all of my failures in the light of day.

How many times in the past few months have you heard rhetoric about queer people being pedophiles, dangerous to children, or both of the above because I know that it’s not zero.
A woman in Florida was arrested for using the ā€˜wrong’ bathroom and more have been harassed for the same. It’s not a big jump from we can kill child rapists to we can kill all rapist to we can kill sexual deviants (which by many definitions include queer people). This isn’t a big jump this is how many queer people were or still are viewed in hyper-conservative societies.
I have no sympathy for anyone who sexually abuses children, full stop.
I know though that those aren’t the only people who are accused of being pedophiles and that’s the problem here.
Also I tend not to support the death penalty in general so there is also that.
