upon first hearing about ninomiya a lot of people just assumed he “matched okazaki’s freak” or something but the more we hear from his perspective, it’s much more concerning.
okazaki has
- fed ninomiya chocolate when he’s diabetic
- made him sleep in a dog crate at the age of 15-16
- broke into his apartment MULTIPLE times (to the point where he had to change his locks)
and possibly more
this whole thing that he secretly “enjoys” what okazaki is doing to him shows that people dont take men who are mistreated seriously. he’s clearly uncomfy around her. if ninomiya was female, the reactions would be different.
my point is Stop trying to girlbossify okazaki for acting like this. i am genuinely concerned for youhei’s well being

crashing out over hiroaki nakamigawa being genuinely the best bpd rep i have ever seen in media. i’ve been in this fandom for barely 3 weeks now but he’s already come to mean so much to me as a character and i’m so so attached to him, like i will never stop being amazed by tetro danganronpa and how honest it is when it comes to underrepresented topics that are an uncomfortable reality for so many people that never really get to feel seen that way.
(impassioned analytical rambling & tons of spoilers ⬇️)
so many things that often get glossed over in fiction or get left implied are CONFRONTED in tetro, bluntly and unapologetically, while showing the consequences in a way that’s so raw but still so empathetic. especially things like the less “palatable” aspects of disabilities, like how dissociation is fucking annoying and severely inhibits your life and makes people see you as helpless when you cant even do anything about it with ojima, and how humiliating it can be to ask for help even when you really REALLY need it with kamimura. especially gendered issues like misogyny in teen girls’ home lives and being forced to grow up too quick with watari, male relationship abuse, its normalization & dismissal, and its effects on self esteem (not to mention when combined with child abuse) with yanagi, and how strong women realistically often have to become strong out of necessity (rather than just being built different girlbosses by nature) with hayashi. tsuno was also an amazing portrayal of ongoing successful recovery while at the same time one of self-imposed pressure and burnout.
then there’s some that become more apparent with outside perception, like isono getting straight up mischaracterized for being A Woman and not having enough screentime to be really understood, and sasaki. oh my god sasaki. sasaki being a victim of SA in school, then vilified for taking on a MUCH needed leadership role in an otherwise unruly group of equally scared teenagers, and fuck, of course she did some awful shit, but she was scared. all of them were. and hiroaki, her most dedicated hater, was the only one to realize that wasn’t who she truly was afterwards and empathize with her.
hiroaki specifically is such painfully and uncomfortably realistic bpd rep, but honestly? it’s a needed perspective. definitely for me, at least. a lot of the vile shit both other characters and fans say about him, real people in my life have said to me, and he’s not exactly recovery goals by any means but god dammit he is TRYING when all odds are against him and holy shit is that difficult enough as it is. he’s trying so fucking hard. i saw myself in him, a version of myself that struggled and felt how he felt, and i was rooting for him the whole time. i cried with him and i cheered when he made progress and i got emotional when someone empathized with him and was patient and forgiving like i wish someone had been with me.
what i love especially about hiroaki is how well-rounded he is in terms of bpd portrayal. he doesn’t just have splitting episodes or obsess over an fp or have super black and white views/opinions, but he also has horrible self-esteem issues that he hides behind an exaggerated ego and lashes out to hide how much he cares and feels crushing, overwhelming self-hatred because of things other people say or think. and even then, we see the less discussed aspects of more acknowledged symptoms with him too. when he splits, he feels immense remorse after. case in point, the sheer horror he felt at the end of [low talk]. he still sometimes tries to make things right where he can even though he can’t stop self-sabotaging. he has moments of kindness with multiple people to varying degrees of closeness.
and despite all this awful shit happening to and around him, he is making a valid fucking effort and god i will always defend him for that. he’s emotionally self-aware and he has goals and values and he cares about people in his life even if he’s bad at showing it. sure, he’s trapped in bad habits and a bad lifestyle, but also… he’s just a kid. he’s 17 years old doing and believing and enduring things no one should have to at that age. he’s been on his own since he was even younger too.
people fault him for backsliding in his attempts at Being Better but that is so fucking unfair, because it is never that goddamn simple. ever. you hear “recovery isn’t linear” just about everywhere, but it’s so rare to see that process explored so thoroughly in fiction and when it’s just brushed under the rug to make him out to be an irredeemable villain because it’s annoying or not entertaining enough, it’s… so painfully real.
the [stairwell] episode in particular was fucking brutal for me. i’ve been him in that situation, except instead of someone like tamba it was someone much closer to me than that. it was such a personal gut punch hearing her scream at him that he just can’t be a better person no matter how hard he tries because that’s just who he is. because he doesn’t want to change bad enough, because he’s innately selfish and cruel and evil and doomed to die alone and unloved. and he stands there and takes it while she hits him everywhere it hurts most, and while i will acknowledge tamba is just as scared and flawed as the rest of them, she says some of the most deplorable shit to him a person can say to someone until he just can’t take it anymore and proves her right. and just like that, he’s regressed back to square one again.
and tamba is never held accountable for how horribly she treated people, or even truly acknowledges how fucked up what she said to hiroaki was. it’s not even clear if she realizes the depth of it. that part is uncomfortably real for me, too. tetro is such peak fiction dude because the only reason i can’t like her is personal beef with her actions related to me and not her.
anyway i’m a shameless tetro glazer, hiroaki is my beautiful & beloved bpd princess, and everyone should be nicer to him and should also keep in mind that some of the shit you say about fictional characters you could inadvertently be saying about someone close to you as well. this fangan is doing something extremely rare and extremely valuable, and at the same time creating such a vulnerable space for people, so always be nice & be considerate <3

Why YOU should vote for Ninomiya Youhei for the first student spotlight of Tetro Blue(when it comes out)
Okay okay I know what you’re thinking here. “Rosa…Tetro Blue not even out and we haven’t even seen the rest of the cast…WHY ARE YOU PROMOTING YOUHEI TO GET THE FIRST SPOTLIGHT!?” or “Rosa he already had a spotlight in Okazaki’s spotlight!”
To that I say WELL EXCUSEEEEEE ME PRINCESS BUT I GOT REASONS WHY WE SHOULD MAKE HIM THE FIRST SPOTLIGHT!
Besides I'm also trying not to be bias in promoting Ouno Nanae first just because I became very interested in her because we don't know much about her compare to Ninomiya.
Anyways~ So why should we once Tetro Blue comes out make Ninomiya Youhei the first student spotlight of Tetro Blue?
Points:
Point 1# We know the most about him: Okay so knowing the most about him would make him less likely to be picked right? WRONG! This just gives us more material to ask him personally on topics we already know about him thanks to Hanano. We can ask him about his parents, his drug use, his home, his lack of commitment, his cowardice, his diabetes, his relationship with Hanano etc. Sure, Hanano answered most of these for him, but that’s the thing. Its from her perspective. For all we know, Youhei might actually have a different answer to these questions or maybe go more in detail. Its different from getting it from an outsider than the source about something, so this is the perfect opportunity to.
Point 2# He’s student number 2: Its silly I know, but hear me out…I think it would be funny if we make it a trend where student 2# gets pick for the first student spotlight of every Tetro season. Harada got picked first during session one and his student number was 2. So if we want to keep up the pattern, we gotta make Youhei the first interviewee.
Point 3# His relationship with Okazaki: So with what we know from studentside and staffside a little. We know that Youhei is Okazaki’s roommate she ended crashing at his house after she burn down her van house. Their relationship was…intimate and he seemed to know and vibe with her super villain persona. So having some questions to get to know what he thinks of her with no worries now of her ever finding out what he’s saying, this would be a great opportunity to do so! Especially when you take in the info Hanano gave us with him “Having a hard time to committment”, “Nobody he would kill for” and “romantic relationships that only last a month”. This could be true as maybe he shared with her about how hard it is for him to find someone he wants to stay with knowing how he no longer has any connects with his family anymore. Not to mention he did have Okazaki as a romantic partner. Or this might be entirely true on Hanano’s part and she just assumed from her perspective that he was just afraid of making new friends or staying in relationships(this could apply to theirs as well). Another important point to this is knowing how the students were actually gone for 9 months instead of just one month. We could get some information on what time and month it was when Okazaki disappeared and hopefully Youhei(like Harada) remembers a little bit of what he was doing before he got kidnapped. Along with how he was doing handling Hanano’s disappearance.
Point 4# His talent: Obviously we gotta ask him about his talent! Along with how it correlates to his lifestyle. We know that Youhei is rebellious and has a punk sort of lifestyle. Very different from his parents and most likely created from how his parents treated him. But what is confusing is how he plays violin, an instrument that is usually considered elegance and sophisticated. This seems more like something from his lifestyle when he was with his parents right? So did he ended up playing violin because of them? And if so, does he still play it out of enjoyment he has for it despite how his parents force him to take it? Or does it resent it, possibly hating it now and even more now being given the talent of “Ulitimate Violinist”.
Point 5# He might die: Okay I know it really depends on the signs during ch.1 whenever we see it and us knowing how it was during Tetro Pink, we all grown to now see the potential death flags early and also how to do student interviews a bit better(Hama’s is still hilarious though). With Youhei, as much I hope he lives longer and even becomes a survivor. That’s is not a guarantee and I’m unsure if he’ll be on the chopping block early due to his having the biggest known connection to Tetro Pink being Okazaki’s roommate. So best to be safe than sorry in my opinion to at least try to get him a student interview early rather than risk it of waiting for future chapters. Not to mention even if he doesn't die in ch.1 and we have another chance in ch.2, we don’t know if any of those special events might happen that prevents a student from attending a spotlight(ex. Wada in ch.1, Hiroaki in ch.2 post ice fairy I think, Hayashi in ch.3 after she got teleported and beaten up, and the example we did get that happen to us Ojima Takeshi ch.4 student interview). So idk Youhei might explode or get beaten up in ch.2 so let’s get him an interview early!
Andddd that’s all the points I have for him. I might either reblog this for promotion or make a part two of it once ch.1 of Tetro Blue is out. But I hope this stays in y’all minds as we wait for Tetro Blue to come out. See you until Tetro Blue for promoting our favs to get voted!
Also vote for Ninomiya or THE PHANTOM THIEF OF NAGOYA WILL RETURN FROM THEIR GRAVE TO HAUNT YOU KONKONKON~!

Okay okay so I cant really remember if they had showed this part in the manga or not so if they did and someone already pointed this out you can ignore this

But if the fact that they're focusing on this lamp and the moth (?) in this scene is an anime only thing then I think thats genius
Because moths are known for wanting to go to the moon yet are confused by the artificial lights around, thus ending up near those lamps instead.
(Okay uh side note I dont really know if the 1st part of moths wanting to go to the moon is actually true or not I just heard it a lot being passed around in my childood but I'm pretty sure the latter that they get confused by the artificial lights is true at least)
So we can think of the moth as Yoshiki, and the artificial light as "Hikaru", and the moon (or maybe any natural light actually) as Hikaru. Yoshiki knows that "Hikaru" is not the actual Hikaru, yet he still stays near him because even if he's fake, he's still a light source for him, he needs him even if he's fake.
And if we want to say more about this then the dark ice cream shop could represent his mind or the village, it's dark, it's suffocating, and the lamp is the only thing that lits the place up, along with the outside of the shop, which could represent how Yoshiki wants to go to the city and get out of the village when he grows up.
BUT my first thought actually wasnt this one, originally I thought of the moth as "Hikaru" and Yoshiki as the lamp, because of how "Hikaru" describes Yoshiki's soul as warm and bright and how it's shown like a source of light. So if we go by that thinking, the other parts of the lamb other than the light itself would be Yoshiki's physical body, and the light would be his soul. And for "Hikaru", Yoshiki's soul is his light.
#hikaru ga shinda natsu#the summer hikaru died#also while i'm at it i just want to say that THE ANIME WAS VERY GOOD???#tbh i expected it to look bad but its actually like really good personally
