“Right now, the districts are seeing the funeral as Erik and Charles saying there is no reason to believe in the games, but we can give them something to believe in.”

Stryker looked doubtful, but asked curiously, “such as?”

Logan took a deep breath. It was now or never. “Young love.” 

Logan is willing to do anything to save Charles. Erik is still cautious about the rule change.

Chapter 18: New Rules

“What is this…?” Erik asked, hesitant to know if he’d get a response by the way Charles had acted beforehand even when asked a question.

But Charles - although he didn’t look at him, although he kept arranging the flowers neatly, moving the rocks to press together more tightly and toying with the branches for them to make an X - answered him, very straightforwardly, “a funeral.” 

Erik and Charles set up camp somewhere new... and have a funeral.

Same thing happened again - in addition, finals are soon approaching so that might affect the schedule as well. I promise I will return to consistency at the start of April, but for now, updates may be sporadic.

Another update regarding TBO: this weekend I have caught a cold and had a ton of homework and therefore hadn't managed to finish editing Ch12. I will update the chapter when I have time (which might mean a week long delay). Don't worry, this project will not be abandoned, but the schedule may be subject to change with me getting busier with uni.

He turned his terrified, completely human blue eyes towards Erik, continuing to speak, “you’re supposed to make it there by sundown - no sooner, no later - or we kill her.” 

They face the Careerists when the sun sets.

Chapter 16: Sunset

“Yeah,” Charles said, his smile briefly falling for a moment, "she wants to talk to us.”

Erik quirked a questioning brow at Charles, “that sounds ominous.”

Charles’ smile fell even further, his grin turning into a concerned crease in his face now, “it is… I don’t think you’re going to like what she has to say…”

Jean has a request for Erik

Chapter 15: That is The Question

The last character you drew/wrote about is now stuck in the last game you played. How screwed are they?

An ax. A heavy, dangerous ax. 

It had a long, smooth, wooden handle, decorated with the logo of a company Erik had never heard of, and it had a very sharp blade at its head. The blade curved out almost like the death reaper’s scythe would, except for the fact the blade was much thicker. Its weight was solid in his hands, able to chop off wood with the barest sling. Erik held onto it tightly, afraid to drop it and destroy the package. 

Erik receives an axe. Jean prepares for an operation.

Chapter 14: Break a Leg

Erik froze. In the cave, moments before the package arrived, Erik had taken Charles’ hand in his, and kissed his knuckles softly, begging him to wake up. Suddenly, the reason why now was clear. That was the way a lover behaved when the one he loved wouldn’t wake up. It was not how a friend acted. That was the difference - Erik and Charles were now delivering on their love story… so Charles got to be healthy.

Charles wakes up. Erik realizes what it means to be the star crossed lovers of District 12.

Chapter 13: You Call That A Kiss?

A hand pressed down on his wounded shoulder as soon as he shot up, pressing him down gently. “You’re awake,” he heard someone sighing, relieved, and turned his head to watch with fascination as tiny Jean Grey looked over at him with concern, taking a piece of a jelly plant and rubbing it on his arm. He looked at the plants rubbed on his arm and frowned. “Good. We need to find a better hiding spot and I couldn’t do it alone.”

Erik wakes up with a new ally.

Chapter 12: Phoenix

He heard the fire before he saw it. The sound of crackling wood as clear as day, trees keeling over as they turned to ashes, sparks of flames flying everywhere. As he kept going, he found himself standing right in front of it - an enormous wall of flames. 

There's a fire. Charles and Erik need each other for this fight but their reunion isn't complete yet.

Chapter 11: Smoke Without Fire

With a stubborn resolve that strengthened his shaky legs and poor arm grip, he began climbing, and jumped from tree to tree towards danger once more, knowing this time, it couldn’t end with him running away.

If he was going to be someone’s supper, he hoped that at the very least he tasted good. 

Erik is still looking for water and is experiencing an obstacle.

Chapter 10: Oasis

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see someone adamantly shaking their head. He was far away from him, dressed in camouflage like all of them, and his blue eyes were impossible to spot from the distance, but it was Charles, thankfully not hidden behind the cornucopia. He was looking at him resolutely, and firmly telling Erik, not telepathy or words; ‘no. Just run’

The games begin.

Chapter 9: Into The Woods

They cut to Erik’s face immediately; he was blushing, most mortifyingly, and he looked completely dazed, smitten rather than surprised. He looked unforgettable, made beautiful by Janet, desirable by Charles and tragic by circumstances. 

The aftermath of the interviews and the last night before they go to the arena...
