The Number 1 Split Testing Mistake
Even after a couple years after I got into copywriting, marketing, and advertising I still had no idea what I was doing when it came down to split testing. I found myself, most of the time, not even doing any real testing in the first place. That is probably why I wasn’t making any money too. But when I got heavy into researching how to split test, I found that nearly everyone („The Gurus“) would teach a method whereby you make one small change to something like a word in a headline, and „see what happens“. Did that version out pull the original or „Control“? I ending up doing all my split testing this way. I would change a word here and there. Or I would see if a green button out pulled a red button. I am sure you have heard this type of stuff too. It is exactly how the 99% of marketers do their split testing. Well, I am here to tell you that it is absolute hogwash. This is not how you should be split testing. And in my opinion, this is the biggest mistake marketers make when it comes down to split testing. They are testing the small stuff. Small stuff is for small marketers. You know, the people who are small that will always stay small. If you want to grow as a marketer… as a business person in general, you have to do things a bit differently. What I do now is very different. If I am going to split test something, say a landing page, both pages are going to be completely different. Not a minor change, a MAJOR change. Make it so different that you can really tell a difference in the conversion rates. You are not going to see major changes in conversion rates by only changing a single word in your subheadline. Or even in your main headline either. That is not the way the big fish, the top 1% of marketers do things. And if you want to be like them, and make it BIG, you should follow what they are actually doing. I teach this kind of thing all the time in my Inner Circle and on our LIVE sessions that we have multiple times per month. We even do hotseats where I review our members landing pages and sales pages. And I can tell you that nine times out of ten (the people that have not been with me long), they are making this mistake. So again, the big idea is, when you do split testing, stop doing the small scale changes and instead shoot for the massive changes. Defining Your Market
Defining your target market is critical if you plan on any measure of success in your business. A solid foundation for your business requires that one of the first things – if not THE first thing you need to do is to – DEFINE YOUR TARGET MARKET! In laymen’s terms, that means you need to figure out who your typical customer is, and design your marketing to reach those people. If you fail to do so, you’re marketing efforts will be like tumbleweeds – rolling around aimlessly in whatever direction the wind blows them. Defining Means Being More Specific There was a time when business owners would say things like „I’m marketing our products/services to people between the ages of 21 and 59.“ That’s great if you think every 21 – 59 year old out there will buy from you, but that’s just not reality. These days, age doesn’t mean what it used to. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying „60 is the new 40“ (or some variation of that). That’s very true today. Generational marketing, defines consumers not just by their ages, but also uses social, economic, demographic and psychological factors, that give marketers a more accurate picture of that target consumer. Generational marketing is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to defining your target market. 6 Other Ways To Define Your Target Market Look At Your Current Customers: Which one(s) bring in the most business? Why do they buy from you? It’s highly likely that others like them would also benefit from your product/service. Choose specific demographics: Who has a need for your product/service and who would most likely purchase it. Consider; age, gender, occupation, location, income/educational level, or marital status just to name a few. Check out your competitors: Who are they marketing to? See if there’s a niche they’ve missed, and target that group. Check out characteristics: This is also known as „psychographics“ in the marketing world. This covers things like; personality, attitudes, interests/hobbies, lifestyles, etc. How will your product/service fit in? Analyze your product/service: Make a list of every feature of your product/service. Next to each feature, write down the benefit(s) each feature will provide. Once you’ve completed that, make a list of the people/businesses that need what your benefit will fulfill. Assess your decision: When you’ve defined your target market, ask yourself these questions; Is there a large enough market for my product/service? Will they benefit from and/or see a need for my product/service? Can they afford it? Are they easily accessible? Will I be able to reach them with my message? Defining your target market is the hard part, but you don’t need to go crazy doing it. Once you have your target market defined, it will be easy to determine what marketing message will resonate with them and what media to use to reach them. Defining your target market will also save you big on marketing dollars while giving you a much better return on those marketing dollars at the same time. Automate EVERYTHING Humanly Possible
Marketing Automation is one thing that I would put up there with the 7 wonders of the world. Just as good as the concept of compounding that Einstein talked about. I try (in every aspect of my life) to automate everything possible. And you should too. This is why many people believe me to be the king of implementation. It has nothing to do with me working 24 hours per day. Or that I am just 5 times faster than everyone else on earth. That is hogwash. The reason that I implement so fast is due to just two reasons. Either I delegate stuff, or I automate stuff. This is how the big shots get things done. If you have to do every little task on your own, every single time, you will take 100 times longer to get anything done. Here is my method for getting things done. 1. I eliminate everything I can.Everything that comes in I put through this process first. And if for any reason I can’t eliminate it, then… 2. I Automate it.So if things actually need doing, and I know that I am going to have to do this thing more than once, that is when I try and automate it. If for any reason I can’t automate it, then… 3. I delegate things.Delegating things is for all the things that could not be automated that I simply don’t want to do myself. (things like edit audio for my podcasts, etc). It can’t be eliminated because it needs doing, and I can’t automate it for whatever reason. That leaves it to be delegated. And then if it can’t be delegated, then. 4. I whine and complain. (just joking) 5. Then I actually do it.At this point, I will either schedule it to be done, or I do it right then and there. And that is how I do things. But the automation part is my favorite. I quite literally automate everything. Parents anniversary… I have it automated to send them an actual card in the mail as well as gifts which I have already pre-chosen. New plan for a Christmas campaign for next year… I automate that too. You will find nearly everything can be automated. And if it can’t, honestly, it probably doesn’t need doing. Now the biggest problem that most people face when it comes to marketing automation is that they simply don’t know where to start. They don’t know what tools and services are the best, cheapest, and fastest to use. Technology does play a role here. And if you are one of those type people that want a hand in figuring all this tech stuff out, and also with the logistics of it all, keep reading my articles. There is a ton more coming. What Is an SSL Certificate and Why Is It Important for Your Business?
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer and is essential to the security of your website, as it allows a secure connection between your server and a browser. This connection permits the secure transmission of information, between your website and your client as an example. Google is now flagging all website, not just e-commerce sites, that don’t have SSL certificates in place. If you haven’t paid much attention to your website’s security, you’re not alone. Many do not think about it until their website is hacked. Here are our top 5 reasons why an SSL Certificate is important for your business:1. Google will flag your site as „Not Secure“ which may prompt some to leave your site. People trust Google, and if Google is warning them, they’re going to leave your site and go to a competitor. 2. A sense of security – we’ve already seen security breaches this year, where sensitive information has been compromised. SSL encrypts information making the information you collect useless for anyone who doesn’t have the encryption key. When your prospects see your site is secure, it builds trust in your brand. 3. Permits online payments – whether you’re planning on accepting payments online now, or sometime in the future, an SSL certificate is essential. 4. If you collect any information from website visitors (search bars, contact forms), then you are a target for cyber-criminals. Be proactive and protect visitors to your site. 5. Although it’s unconfirmed, there is a suggestion that Google will penalize non-secure sites regarding their SEO ranking. Whether or not this is built into Google’s algorithms, a visitor to a non-secure site may spend less time there, decreasing search rankings. Either way, it’s important. Not sure where to start? 1. Check with your website hosting company. There is an annual fee, but some companies may provide an SSL Certificate complimentary as a part of their hosting package. 2. Google does not sell SSL certificates. Any third-party provider that claims this is not reputable. Still have questions? Reach out anytime by posting a comment below or emailing us at [email protected].
