Mine | Sebastian Sallow x Reader
A/N: In honor of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) dropping, here’s a fic inspired by one of my personal favorites on the album: “Mine”.
Warnings: Fluff, little angst, mutual pining
Tumblr media
You were in college, working part-time, waiting tables
There were many words one could think of to describe Sebastian Sallow. His friends would call him dedicated, his enemies unrelenting, and his family loyal to a fault. But your feelings for him were completely different than the feelings Anne and Ominis had about him. You were hopelessly in love with him.
Left a small town, never looked back
After the events in Feldcroft, Sebastian took up a job in Hogsmeade over the summer and started renting out a room above one of the shops. No matter how much he longed to return to his home back in the small hamlet, he couldn’t bring himself to go back to an empty house.
I was a flight risk, with a fear of fallin'
You felt awful for him—he had lost his parents, uncle, and now, it seemed as though he had lost Anne and Ominis, too. So you did your best to visit him every Saturday in Hogsmeade, joining him for a butterbeer by the river just outside of town.
Wondering why we bother with love, if it never lasts
Neither of you would ever admit it—and if one of you did, it was Sebastian with one of his typical coy comments about enjoying spending time with you—but Saturdays were the best parts of your weeks. Despite the denial the two of you found yourselves in, you were both head over heels for each other.
I say, "Can you believe it?"
It was one of those Saturdays and you and Sebastian were nursing butterbeers beside the river.
“Can you believe we’ll be sixth years, Sebastian?” You asked, taking a sip of the drink in your hand.
He smiled, shaking his head, “I find it harder to believe that we’ve only known each other for a year.”
The moment, I can see it
“I felt like I’ve known you forever,” you admitted.
Yes, yes, I can see it now
“Funnily enough, I feel the same way…” he said dreamily, his eyes meeting yours.
The soft summer breeze picked up a bit, causing you to cross your arms to fight off the bit of cold you felt crawling up your skin.
Do you remember, we were sittin', there by the water?
What happened next would forever be engrained in your brain. He shuffled closer to you, his arm wrapping around your body. As awkward as it was in the moment, it felt natural in a way. Like his arm was made to be resting on your shoulders.
You put your arm around me for the first time
The two of you had never been this close—not on purpose, at least.
Your breath caught in your throat, heat rising to your cheeks. You had dreamt about this day since the night he took the fall for you in the library.
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
Turning your head to face him, his brown eyes met yours. You were love drunk at the sight of him: his wandering eyes, freckled face, sweet smile. You couldn’t stayed like that forever.
You are the best thing, that's ever been mine
That was when the pieces of the puzzles clicked. The two of you leaned in, your lips meeting one another’s. It was a sweet kiss, one right out of a fairy tale your grandmother had read to you as a little girl. But it was real.
Flash forward, and we're takin' on the world together
Needless to say, you spent the rest of the summer frequenting Hogsmeade every spare chance you got. Even a minute with him was a minute we’ll spent.
And there's a drawer of my things at your place
The two of you would spend hours talking every night, whether it was by the river, in The Three Broomsticks, or up at his place.
One night, while searching for his Gobstones set, you came across a drawer filled with things you had given him. Every letter, every drawing you had done while bored in arithmacy, and your house scarf you had tied around his neck when he had gotten a cold and refused to bundle up.
You learn my secrets and you figure out why I'm guarded
You shut the drawer, a smile on your face. You didn’t mention anything to him out of fear he’d be embarrassed. So, you let him keep his secret. But secrets weren’t easily kept between the two of you.
One night, after taking a shortcut to Hogsmeade past the graveyard, your eyes narrowed in on Professor Fig’s tombstone. Memories immediately flooded through your mind, your heart breaking all over again.
You found comfort in Sebastian’s arms that night, tears streaming down your eyes on his couch as he listened to you pour your heart out. What started with Professor Fig turned into you finally opening up about your parents. They weren’t exactly thrilled at the idea of their daughter being a witch.
You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes
“Y/N, it’s not your fault. Not everyone is cut out for a life in our world. What matters is that we learn from their mistakes and try not to repeat them.”
You feel for him even harder after that, falling asleep in his embrace without a second thought.
And we got bills to pay
When the school year started back up again, you worried that what you and Sebastian had shared over the summer would come to an end. But that fear never came to fruition.
The two of you continued your relationship throughout the entire year. Despite Ominis’s worries that you’d enable him, it was quite the opposite. You grounded him—and he challenged you to be more open with your feelings.
We got nothin' figured out
You took the school by storm with Sebastian by your side—winning nearly every Crossed Wands match, excelling in your studies, and of course getting up to trouble with he and Ominis.
When it was hard to take
Not everything was perfect, though. Anne’s infrequent letters sent Sebastian for a spin whenever one was delivered. He’d experience grief and hope all at the same time, hoping that his sister would come around eventually.
This is what I thought about
By the time the summer before your seventh year rolled around, you were curled up by the river with Sebastian, his head in your lap as you ran your hands through his hair, each of you enthralled in a book.
Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water?
But you could hardly focus on the text in front of you. Memories of last summer flooded back into your mind. The two of you were in the same place where it first started.
You put your arm around me, for the first time
“Sebastian?”
“Yes?” He replied, looking up from his book.
“I love you.”
“I know,” He teased, going back to his book.
Flustered, you rolled your eyes,
He chuckled, “Y/N?”
You looked down at him, biting the insides of your cheeks.
“I love you, too.”
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
“Tell me something I don’t know, Sallow.”
“How can I when you’re such a know it all?” He smirked, lifting his head off your lap, his lips inches away from you.
You are the best thing, that's ever been mine
Leaning in, he expected your lips to meet his—but the only thing he was met with his face in the river.
A laugh escaped your lips as he stood up, completely soaked.
Unamused, a wicked smile spread across his lips. That’s when it sunk it and you started shuffling back on your feet, shaking your head.
Sebastian leapt out of the river, tackling you onto the grass, water sealing through your clothes. He shook his head, sending water droplets all over you.
Do you remember all the city lights on the water?
You couldn’t help but laugh, “Sebastian!”
“You may have started it, love, but I intend to finish it!”
You saw me start to believe, for the first time
This is what love was. The unexpected. Your heart fluttered at the sight of him. You were completely and utterly in love with him.
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
The more you spent time with Sebastian, the less you thought about what your parents would think. For the first time in a while, you were happy.
You are the best thing, that's ever been mine
Seventh year rolled around and went by faster than you expected. Sebastian was by your side through it all, but a sinking feeling in your stomach started telling you it wouldn’t last. That you would go your separate ways after school.
Oh, oh, oh, oh
The inevitable fight did happen, though. Sebastian had neglected to tell you about an offer extended to him from the Ministry—expressing their wishes to see him in the auror training program during the summer.
You had found the letter waiting for him to get home one night, thinking it was the one that you had sent to him the other day. Instinctively, you had gone to put it in the drawer he kept with all your other letters—but when you scanned over it, you realized it wasn’t from you, but the ministry.
The program would start on Monday—in four days.
And I remember that fight, two-thirty a.m.
When Sebastian got home that night, he found you sitting with the letter in your hands, tears streaming down your face.
“Were you planning on telling me or just keeping this to yourself?”
'Cause everything was slipping right out of our hands
“Y/N…I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet. That’s just one offer…”
“Sebastian, we’ve been dating for two years. During those two years, the only thing I’ve asked is for you to be honest with me. Maybe I’m overstepping and should just put a smile on my face and be happy for you—but I love you too much to just be happy about you leaving so soon without telling me,” you explained, “I just…I need some space…”
I ran out, crying, and you followed me out into the street
You found yourself back where it had all started: at the river. Your knees curled up to your chest, you watched as the water flowed downstream. Blinking back tears, you hurried your face in your sweater.
Braced myself for the goodbye,
Hearing the set of footsteps you knew all too well, you braced yourself for your whole world to come crashing down.
'Cause that's all I've ever known
All good things must come to an end, you reminded yourself.
Then, you took me by surprise
But what happened took you by surprise. When you looked over, you saw Sebastian on one knee beside you, a small box with a ring nestled inside in his hand.
You said, "I'll never leave you alone"
“You never have to worry about being alone ever again, love.”
You said, "I remember how we felt, sitting by the water.
“I figured it was only right to ask you to marry me where it all began”
And every time I look at you, it's like the first time.
“I never thought it’d be possible, but I fall in love with you more and more everyday.”
I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter.
“I’m hopelessly in love with you, Y/N.”
She is the best thing that's ever been mine."
“You truly are the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he said, beginning to tear up, “And I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you.”
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
Lurching forward, your lips met his in a passionate kiss, only pulling away to say, “Sebastian, I’d love nothing more than to be yours forever.”
You are the best thing, that's ever been mine
He slid the ring on your finger, “You’re the best thing that’s ever been mine, love.”
Do you believe it?
“I’m sorry I overreacted with the whole ministry thing… I should’ve talked to you about it first…”
“There’s a reason I never brought it up,” he explained, earning a confused look from his fiancé, “I turned it down—because I was extended an offer from Professor Weasley to take over as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in the fall. That’s what I wanted to speak with you about tonight.”
We're gonna make it now
Realization settled over your face, “Sebastian, they offered me the charms position. That means—“
“Neither of us are going anywhere, Y/N.”
And I can see it
You pressed a brief kiss to his lips once again, admiring the ring on your finger.
“What do you say we celebrate over a butterbeer by the river?”
“I’d say thats a great idea.”
Leaning into him once more, his arm wrapped around you and, once again, it felt like the first time.

Haunted | Sebastian Sallow x Reader
A/N: So…I’m sorry in advance to anyone who reads this. It’s…emotionally damaging.
Warnings: So, so much angst, mentions of death, mentions of sickness, major spoilers for Hogwarts Legacy, grief, broken friendships, right person/wrong time
Speak Now x Sebastian Sallow Masterlist
Tumblr media
You and I walk a fragile line
“Sebastian…” You trailed off, tears welling in your eyes as memories of his uncle’s lifeless body on the ground replayed through your head.
But he remained still, unable to process what had just happened. It all went by so fast: Solomon dueling you, Sebastian casting the killing curse at his uncle, and Anne sending her brother flying back when she saw what he had done.
I have known it all this time
Ominis had told you time and time again that Sebastian was taking everything too far. But your dedication and loyalty towards your first true friend at Hogwarts had sent you on a path alongside him.
But I never thought I'd live to see it break
You’d tell yourself he’d stop, that he’d realize when he was going too far. He promised you himself that if he ever found himself going too deep, he wouldn’t go any further.
But Sebastian had never been the greatest at keeping his promises.
It's getting dark and it's all too quiet
You knelt down beside him, “You promised you wouldn’t let it get this far. You promised.”
“I don’t want to get into what I promised and what I didn’t,” Sebastian hissed, “I just lost my own uncle—I don’t need you to guilt me into regret.”
And I can't trust anything now
You tensed up at his words, “You don’t regret what you did? What led up to it?”
“He almost killed you—he stopped me from saving Anne! You know I did the right thing, Y/N. I had no other choice.”
And it's coming over you like it's all a big mistake
You should’ve tried to stop him. All those promises he made, all the times he blindly led you into danger—nothing would ever be enough for him unless his sister was healed.
Mistakes had been made on both of your parts—but you couldn’t help but think if you had stopped him sooner, that none of this would’ve happened.
Oh, I'm holding my breath
“You just killed someone, Sebastian. How did you have no other choice?” You choked, sinking back on your heels, fingers gripping the earth around you to try and ground yourself.
Won't lose you again
The past few months had flown by, with you running to his aid in order to keep an eye on him. Ominis didn’t want to lose him to the dark arts—and neither did you. But it was too late. He was already gone—you had lost him.
Something's made your eyes go cold
Searching his eyes for any sign of remorse, the only emotion you could find on his face was one of determination and anger. He was more hurt that his uncle had destroyed the relic than he was that he had murdered his own blood.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
Blinking back the tears as your mind spun, you reached for his hand, gripping it tightly, “Sebastian—please stop. You can’t do this ever again.”
I thought I had you figured out
“If I give up now, I give up on Anne. And I will never give up on my sister.”
Something's gone terribly wrong
Sebastian was a shadow of the boy you had grown to know and, against better judgement, fall in love with.
You're all I wanted
You had always dreamt of holding his hand in yours, brushing your lips against his knuckles. But you never thought that the dream of holding his hand would be your worst nightmare.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
“Sebastian, please,” You cried, “You’ve gone too far—this is what Ominis was worried about. What Solomon was worried about. Please.”
I thought I had you figured out
Sebastian rose from the ground, his hand still entwined in yours.
“Help me, Y/N. Help me cure Anne.”
“I’ve trying to help you come to your senses, Sebastian. Stop this. Please,” You begged, but he merely tried to pull his hand away.
Tightening your grip, you pleaded with him not to go any further. But he finally shrugged your hand away, leaving you a weeping mess.
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Watching him leave, you could hardly contain your tears. You had witness a murder and the downfall of your best friend—the boy you loved—in the span of an hour.
Can't turn back now, I'm haunted
Returning to Hogwarts that night, you found yourself feeling hollow. You walked back to your dormitory numb, your ears ringing and head spinning whenever you thought about the events that had just unfolded.
Stood there and watched you walk away
At the end of the hallway, you spotted Sebastian entering the Undercroft. Normally, you’d be on his heels, ready to follow him to the ends of the earth. But now you found yourself watching him walk away, standing still as if time had frozen.
From everything we had
Memories of all the months you had spent with Sebastian by your side came racing back into your mind. The two of you were unstoppable together: at the top of your class, the best duelists in the school, and always getting into some sort of mischief.
But I still mean every word I said to you
Despite everything he had said and done, you know deep down that you’d forgive him in a heartbeat if he only asked. Your love for him easily replaced the disappointment.
He will try to take away my pain
Over the next few months, you saw Sebastian less and Garreth and Natty more. You tried to surround yourself with positivity—even though your mind was elsewhere.
Natty would try and take you on adventures of your own while Garreth got you tangled up in potion making. They understood you were hurting and they did everything in their power to try and take it away.
And he just might make me smile
But they were idiots. They knew you were faking every smile, recognized that your laughs sounded phony, and noticed your eyes were empty.
But the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead
You would give anything to make things go back to the way they were before… before…
Oh, holding my breath
Excusing yourself from the table with Natty and Garreth, you exited the Great Hall, trying to steady your nerves.
Won't see you again
Pacing around the empty corridor, you tried to think of the last time you were happy. But every memory had something to do with Sebastian or Ominis. And thinking of the latter made you think of the former and that made you think of—
Something keeps me holding on to nothing
You spotted Sebastian out of the corner of your eye, his focus on you.
He’d never admit this, but he worried about you. He’d never stop what he was doing—but he took notice of your changing behavior and often watched you from afar, just to make sure you were okay.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
Your eyes met his, but the second he noticed you were looking back at him, he bolted, speed walking through the halls.
I thought I had you figured out
Against better judgement, you followed him, trying to keep up with him.
“Sebastian!” You called out, “Wait—please!”
Something's gone terribly wrong
It didn’t take long before he was trapped in the astronomy tower with no where to run. He couldn’t hide from you anymore.
“Y/N—you shouldn’t be here.”
“You shouldn’t be running!” You exclaimed, nearly out of breath from running up three flights of stairs.
Sebastian groaned, gripping the balcony railing, “You make your choice, Y/N, and I made mine.”
You're all I wanted
“Merlin, Sebastian, are you that daft? You’re the only thing I wanted—the only person I wanted to see each day. You were my best friend and I—I—Merlin, I loved you. I still do. And it hurts knowing that I’ll never even remotely come first.”
He sighed, unable to meet your gaze, “I love you, too, but I can’t…I can’t focus on anything or anyone else until Anne is healed.”
Your shoulders sank in defeat and you once again found yourself blinking back the tears that welled in your eyes.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
Grabbing his hand, you pulled him back towards you, your lips crashing on his. He deepened the embrace, his hands finding your waist while yours grabbed the color of his shirt, pulling him as close as you could.
Your back against the wall, your hands made their way through his hair, tangling in his brown locks.
When the two of you finally pulled away, your foreheads resting against each other, both of you were out of breath.
Pressing one last chaste kiss to your lips, Sebastian slowly stepped away.
I thought I had you figured out
Biting down on your bottom lip, you tried to contain the sobs that tried racking through your body.
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
You couldn’t breathe—he truly had taken your breath away. Sinking down to the floor, you closed your eyes.
Can't turn back now, I'm haunted
Now, it was you who was a fraction of the girl you used to be.
I know
He had changed.
I know
You had changed.
I just know
And nothing would ever be the same again.
You're not gone, you can't be gone, no
The Sebastian you had known and fallen in love with was gone—replaced with someone you couldn’t even recognize.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
You’d do anything to see “your Sebastian” one last time. But that wasn’t possible.
I thought I had you figured out
What if you had been wrong—what if the man Sebastian had become was who he had been the whole time? Had he been lying to you—misguiding you—hell, manipulating you?
Something's gone terribly wrong
What if this was your fault? If you had said something sooner, maybe he would’ve—maybe he’d still—you could barely think.
Won't finish what you started
The truth was, it was unlikely he’d figure out a way to cure Anne. And even if he did, he’d be so overcome by the dark arts he’d probably wind up selling his soul to the wrong people.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
Rising from the floor, you gripped the railing before you, watching as the clouds shifted in the sky.
I thought I had you figured out
From now on, you wouldn’t let the past control your future. No matter how much your heart ached and long for Sebastian, you’d put one foot in front of the other until you had moved on.
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Taking a deep breath, the fresh spring air filled your lungs.
Can't go back, I'm haunted
“Goodbye, Sebastian…” You muttered, pulling away from the balcony.
You and I walk a fragile line
From then on, whenever you saw him in the hallway, you avoided making any sort of eye contact with him. You no longer followed him into the secret corners of Hogwarts—instead, you made your own path.
I have known it all this time
Your friendship with Ominis was mending, although it would take time. Now, your time was mostly spent with Natty and Garreth.
Never ever thought I'd see it break
For the first time in a long time, a genuine smile settled over your face at one of the Weasley’s failed experiments. You and Natty just shook your heads, a small laugh escaping each of your lips.
Never thought I'd see it
It still hurt, seeing him in the hallway on his own. You never thought you’d see the day where he was walking without you by his side.
But you were healing—no matter how haunted you remained.

Sebastian crept in, and slowly made his way over to the drinks, failing to acknowledge you.
You found yourself desperate to approach him, desperate to ask what was over. But Garreth had you linked to his arm, with no chance of letting go.
Thankfully, Sebastian’s disruption had been enough of a distraction from Garreths offer of private time, and instead Garreth was sticking to his word of showing you off.’ The two of you mingled with everyone on the dance floor, with Sebastian hawking over you from the corner. Every now and again your eyes would meet his, those brown orbs holding a cold glare.
The guilt returned. Merlin, were you confused.
If only Sebastian knew this was all for him.
But, was it?
~~~
As the night lingered on, the room slowly began to empty. With professors stumbling out into the hallway one by one.
“It’s getting late, I should get going-“ you interrupted Garreths conversation with a gentle tone.
Grabbing your hand, he pulled you aside taking his other to your flushed cheek.
“Goodnight, darling,” he whispered, leaning in for a final kiss.
You stepped back, your fingers still in his, smiling as you walked away lingering his grasp until your touch finally broke.
You couldn’t kiss him, not in front of Sebastian. Although somehow, it seemed Garreth didn’t mind. He simply stood there in his fancy robes, smiling in awe as your green dress glided with you across the floor.
As you turned, your gaze darted across the room in search of the person you truly needed right now. However Sebastian was gone, and all that remained were an array of empty chairs and tables.
As you closed the door to the Great hall behind you, you collapsed into it, gasping as you processed the night.
Garreth was so… gentle with you. And it seemed you were beginning to fall for his sweet charm, as much as it was never in the plan. Garreth made you feel appreciated, he made you feel seen. Garreth would rather spin you across a room of people than hide you in the shadows.
But Sebastian.
Merely the sight of him ignited a flaming passion that consumed every fraction of your being, leaving you as nothing but ash. Every little touch was enough to burn through pure water. Loving him was chaotic, dangerous, and yet still warm and safe. His light was the essence of your existence, essential to your survival yet the smoke was intoxicating your lungs with every breath. He was poison, but he was indispensable.
And Garreth was just… nice.
Your train of thought broke with the memory of Professor Weasley shivering in the moonlit snow, glaring out at the little island that sat deep within the obsidian waves.
Perhaps it was just a coincidence.
‘His findings are very well secured’
Or perhaps the very thing you were looking for, was somewhere in that lake.
~~~
Within minutes you found yourself in the library. Sleep would forbid you until you found some kind of answer. The scent of old parchment was deeply soothing, enticing you deeper into the maze of knowledge.
As your dress brushed against the dusty wooden bookshelves, your thoughts once again returned to Sebastian. You found yourself dwelling upon the reality, if you should fail.
Knowing that he could die in your hands, having to live with the knowledge that you could have saved him.
Having to reminisce on what could have been.
What would you become? Would you settle down with Garreth, grow old with him, always looking back on the boy you lost?
Would you do that anyway? If Sebastian survives, will he marry Ostara?
Are you destined for a life of torture?
You finally approached the section you were looking for. H- for Hogwarts. Perhaps there would be anything at all about the purpose of that island, or even the architecture of the castle, revealing the most secure places hidden in plain sight.
“Lumos,” you whispered, lifting your wand to the line of books in front of you.
The Essential Guide to Hogwarts Portraiture, How Hogwarts Came To Be, The Official Hogwarts Song Book, you continued to scan along the shelf.
Hogwarts: A History.
You grabbed the book from the shelf, bringing a cloud of dust with it, causing you to cough as the particles ticked at your throat.
Looking back up, you reached for another book, An Architectural Guide To Hogwarts.
“I always thought you looked good in green,” a smooth voice broke the midnight silence from behind, startling you so much the book slipped right out of your hand.
A figure leant down to retrieve the book, standing back up just centimetres apart from you. The lingering smell of alcohol that consumed the Great Hall was sweeping from the lips that aligned perfectly with your forehead.
You raised your wand, illuminating the face of the person before you, revealing a stubbly beard and an array of familiar freckles.
“Merlin, Sebastian! You scared the life out of me,” you whispered, with a hint of annoyance, still gasping from the fright.
Within moments you were instantly soothed, feeling the heat of his body against yours. Your eyes trickled down at his slightly open shirt, revealing the hairs that covered his bare chest, that was warmed by the rhythmic pattern of your deep breaths.
You were entirely relieved that he was okay, after his odd disappearance and note, but you had far too many questions to let him off easy.
Sebastian lifted the book to your chest, in a gesture to hand it back, before stepping away and leaning ever so smugly on the bookshelf in front of you.
The two of you were confined by a very tight aisle of books, leaving little personal space at all. Being forced to be so close, deep down gave you quite a thrill.
“What are you doing here?” You asked.
“I followed you-“ he paused. “I need to talk to you, I had planned too earlier but it seems Weasley is too busy occupying your time.”
His voice rattled with subtle rage, he couldn’t stand to see you and Garreth together, he’d made that perfectly clear enough times.
However his tone only made the anger inside you begin to bubble. How dare he be so dismissive towards you and then act this way?
“Well you know what else has been occupying my time Sebastian? Being left in the dark for weeks, not hearing a thing from you,” you raised your voice. “And then to receive such an ominous note, what is up with you?!”
“I-“ he began, looking a little timid that you’d let your wrath show.
“And to be so annoyed about me and Garreth,” you interrupted, almost laughing with rage. “Like the last thing you said to me wasn’t about getting back your fiancé.”
Sebastian stepped forward, towering over you.
“If you’d let me speak, maybe you’d know-“ he said with such dominance.
“Know what? Know what’s over?” You replied, voice shaking.
Sebastian lifted his arms, resting them on the shelf above you, closing you in. His gaze towards the ground, as he stand there breathing into you.
“Sebastian?” You whispered.
He raised his eyes, meeting them with yours. They were rinsed with pain, suffering, and spoke to you as if they were begging for something. But what?
As he moved closer, his lips hovered yours. The both of you trying to resist, lingering on to every millisecond with pure restraint.
But you gave in, pouring all of your desperation into him as your lips gently brushed each other. Lost in the moment, you let go of the books in your hand, letting them fall to the wooden ground beneath you. He kissed onto you with such elegance and softness, travelling from your mouth to your neck with delicate passion.
Your palms met his chest, pushing him away from you as his body slammed against the shelf behind him.
“Sebastian, what is over?”
He hesitated, unsure how you would take the news that left his lips.
“Ostara, and I. The marriage, the engagement, everything.” He looked down, seeming somewhat disappointed.
At first, you were not sure how to feel. This was what you wanted, you supposed. But at what cost?
“So you think you can waltz back in here and win me back? After everything you put me through?” You raised your voice again.
“Oh come on,” he laughed. “Like Garreth really has anything on me.”
“Don’t like a taste of your own medicine, do you, Sallow?”
A hint of fury returned to his almost black eyes.
“I think you’re forgetting why I did all of this, MC. My life is at stake, and so is Anne’s. I know it’s messed up.”
“So the vow?” You questioned.
Sebastian nodded.
“I promised I’d find that item, I have to keep looking, even if the man now absolutely despises me.”
You sighed, giving in to the facade you’d been wearing all night.
“You’re not the only one who’s been making sacrifices for this, you know?”
Were you about to admit to him, and yourself, that you were using Garreth? Would it all but tarnish the progress you’d made? For a moment you thought that maybe you did like Garreth after all, but Sebastian’s presence had only proved that maybe you were just deeply infatuated with saving the man you loved.
Sebastian looked at you, trying to make sense of what you’d just claimed.
“Sacrifices?” He muttered, approaching you once more.
“Maybe I’m just as messed up as you,” you whispered, pulling him closer by his collar and colliding his lips with yours.
As Sebastian pushed you back against the shelf, a handful books fell beside you. But it was not enough to break your passion as his hands guided themselves across your body, pulling you into each other with every little gasp for air. Your fingertips moved upwards to his neck, travelling further and running through his soft hair. The taste of the night on his tongue was addictive, you were his, utterly and truly.
This was fire, this was fury, this was desire.
The many moments of intimacy quickly came to a halt as a beaming white light shot through the aisle, blinding you both as your eyes fluttered open.
You had been interrupted, by somebody at the end of an illumined wand.
Sebastian stepped back panting, as you squinted, trying to make out the silhouette of who stood before you. This time it was not Professor Ronen, however. It was in fact, not a man at all.
The light lowered, revealing an expression of horror at what they had just witnessed.
Professor Weasley.

Chapter 14: “Shall we dance?”
Today was the day, dinner with Professor Weasley.
That morning you awoke to a blanket of snow upon the rolling hills outside of your bedroom window. The cold glass pressed against your head as you rested in thought, your gaze following the dancing snowflakes swirling down onto the rooftops below.
Your imagination wandered for a while, preparing you for the night ahead, how you would approach the situation that Professor Fig had been so ominous about. You had visited his portrait multiple times since, eager for some kind of explanation, but alas, it remained empty.
And of course, that string of thought always pulled you back to Sebastian, as much as you resisted. The memory of him leaving, barging past you in a hurry, after witnessing Garreth’s lips upon yours.
Him getting Ostara back.
He had been gone for some time now, with no letters and nowhere to send an owl too. Of course you had left him notes on your parchment, multiple in fact. But still the paper remained free of his touch.
Your eyes wandered to the edge of the horizon, tucked behind silvery mountains and the haze of gentle snowfall. He was out there, somewhere, slipping away.
~~~
You simply couldn’t resist going out and enjoying the weather, it rarely snowed in London, and oh how you had missed Hogwarts in the wintertime.
You set out onto the castle grounds, making your way out for a chilly walk around the Hogwarts Valley, giving you some more time to contemplate your plan for the evening. Your favourite green scarf wrapped around your neck, matched with a cosy hat and gloves.
Your breath clouded in front of you as you peered out over the wooden beams of the bridge at the edge of the castle. The views were simply glorious, and for that small moment, you had at last cleared your head. Nothing but the whooshing sound of the wind, and the burning nip at the tip of your nose.
Suddenly a pair of hands gripped onto your waist, pulling you backwards as a chin rested gently on your shoulder, snapping you back into reality.
“Guess who?” A friendly voice whispered.
“Garreth,” you grinned, turning to him.
How was it that he was everywhere?
He looked down at you, curls of auburn hair falling beside his mossy green eyes. The edge of his lip twitching up into a smile.
“Excited for tonight?” He asked, before planting a little kiss onto your icy lips, quickly heating up your face.
That guilty lump returned to your throat. You had continued to pursue Garreth in Sebastian’s absence, you had no choice. This dinner was the only chance you had to get the information that could save Sebastian, and you would go to any length to do so.
“Can’t wait,” you smiled, performing.
“I too can’t wait, to show you off that is,” Garreth teased.
That guilty lump dissolved in an instant, the warmth travelling up to your cheeks, pulling that forced smile into something more real.
To show you off?
A little tingle flipped in your stomach.
Somebody wanted to show you off.
It made practically no sense that you felt this way. The last time Garreth had ‘shown you off’ you felt humiliated, being under Sebastian’s prying eyes.
But, Sebastian was gone. Sebastian, he would never show you off.
Perhaps it was his absence, perhaps it was that you finally felt seen. But Garreth…. made you feel something.
“I’m just heading into the castle, to get everything ready for dinner,” he smiled, stepping back. “I’ll see you tonight, MC.”
You watched as he set off across the bridge, turning back to flash you one last smile, which once again sent tiny little tingles rushing through you.
Were you starting to like Garreth after all?
~~~
A familiar reflection stared back at you, hair pulled into an ornate bun accompanied by the most luscious dress in deep hues of green. Perfectly matching the palette of Garreths charming, gentle eyes. You watched yourself smile as you fiddled at the necklace holding Sebastian’s precious ring, trying to ignore the lingering doubts about your feelings that tormented you more with every passing second.
It was time. You took a final deep breath, analysing the way your body moved with the fabric, before heading to the door of your cosy Hogwarts bedroom. Hesitating, you turned back, glancing across the moonlit desk in the corner. The enchanted parchment lie there, waiting patiently for a response. You had been hung up on it every day, constantly checking, carrying it with you wherever you went. And this was to be no different. The parchment was soon stuffed in your purse, accompanying you to dinner.
As you made your way down the grand staircase, you felt the array of heads turning, watching as you strolled by. These were not students heads however, they were portraits, eyeing you up in your new look.
“You look lovely!” A voice called out from above.
You looked up, to find a portrait of a young girl staring back at you. A portrait you must have passed hundreds, if not thousands of times, yet somehow never even noticed.
“Thank you,” you said as a gentle smile slipped your lips, carefully holding up your skirt in order not to trip.
You finally arrived at the great hall, completely unprepared for what to expect. You did however find it rather amusing that the students were so blissfully unaware of such events happening, as they all resided in their dorms. You wondered what sorts of things the staff got up too when you were a student. And what it might be like to see them tonight, without the restrictions of their office and classroom walls.
Standing outside of the large door, you adjusted your dress, listening in to the hustle and bustle of commotion on the other side.
The door slowly began to open, letting the boom of chatter and music slip out with the light.
A mop of ginger hair peered around the door, followed by a smile and a rather elaborate coat and tie.
“Look at you!”
“It’s nothing,” you gushed. “Just something I had laying around-“
“You look devine,” he muttered, reaching out a hand and guiding you inside, revealing the most exquisite display of feast you had ever laid eyes on.
The smell of warm food was enchanting, and the food itself a sight to behold. Instead of four long tables, the hall was centred by one large round table, topped with delicious treats accompanied by absurd amounts of alcohol.
Almost the entire faculty of Hogwarts was already digging in, laughing and chatting away. Only four empty seats remained. Two beside each other for you and Garreth, one for Professor Black, who would likely not show up, and one at the other side of the table, reserved for Sebastian.
You were thrilled to find you were also sat beside Professor Garlick, or Mirabel as you now called her. However you were utterly distressed that Professor Weasley had been sat at the other side of Garreth, making it practically impossible to converse with her. The entire purpose of this plan was to find out what she knew, and now that task had become just a little bit more tedious.
And so you began to dig in, watching as the enchanted wine bottles poured endless amounts of glasses around the table.
You had spent most of the evening chatting to Professors Garlick than actually communicating with Garreth at all. He was far too deep in debate with Professor Sharp, who was beginning to slur his words about potions. And now no longer being a student it seemed Garreth could finally speak his mind, which was certainly taking priority over talking to you. This was all much to the dismay of Professor Weasley, who was visibly uncomfortable to be sat between the two of them.
You stood up from your chair and approached the Professor from behind, placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Care to join me for a stroll?” You smiled.
“I could use some air,” she replied giving Garreth a scolding look.
The two of you headed out of the door leading to the gardens, that sat above your old common room. The warm light from inside illuminated the darkness from below, matching the twinkling stars up above that left a sparkle on the snowy ground.
“I can only apologise for my nephews behaviour in there, it seems the drinks have gotten to his head-“
“It’s alright, he’s very passionate about Potions,” you chuckled.
“That he is. I’m thrilled to hear he is opening up shop in Hogsmeade… and I see the two of you have been getting close.”
“We,” you paused, trying to muster the right thing to say. “We have. Perhaps we could collaborate on some kind of healing potion, in the future.”
There it was, the perfect diversion.
“Certainly, you have made strides for healing in the wizarding world, who knew that muggle methods could be so effective?”
“They are, however, there are
certain types of magic that I think could be just as powerful, it’s just a matter of finding them.”
Something occurred to you in that moment, hearing yourself speak of this.
Isidora, using ancient magic to take away pain.
It was awfully similar to what you had been doing all this time, without the magic of course.
How had everything you’d been through somehow lead to this? Was it more than a coincidence?
The Professor raised an eyebrow, seeming eager to hear more about the magic you spoke of.
“In my research,” you continued. “I heard about some sort of item belonging to Salazar Slytherin that was hidden in the castle, having some kind of healing abilities. It certainly sounded interesting, perhaps it’s worth investigating some day.” You spoke ever so casually, in order to be cautious.
“My dear,” the Professor chucked. “Do not waste your time. I don’t think such an item exists.”
She seemed awfully certain of that, perhaps a little too certain.
“- and even if it did,” she continued. “It would have since been moved.”
“Moved? What do you mean?” You queried, desperate for even a crumb of information.
“Professor Black is a keen collector of such items. I had to essentially run the school myself while he spent months finding every last trace of Salazar Slytherin that remained in these walls, to keep in his personal collection.”
She turned away from you, glancing out at the black lake.
“His findings are very well secured.” She muttered, as her eyes fixated on the little island surrounded by the dark murky water.
Suddenly the blaring sound of trumpets swept the air from behind you, causing you to jump in surprise.
“Let us head back inside, Garreth will be looking for you. You certainly don’t want to miss the dancing,” the Professor smiled, linking your arms together as she took you back into the party.
Oh how it pained you that your conversation had to be cut short, and all for dancing. However this did confirm what Professor Fig had said, but what else? That the collection is secure? But where?
Your thoughts raced, analysing every detail of your conversion.
She looked at the lake.
Could it be in the lake?
~~~
A band of floating instruments had appeared in the corner of the hall, playing an upbeat tune. You watched as Professor Ronen was jigging around in his best robes, clearly having an incredible time. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself watching him rhythmically dart around, you could only imagine what it would be like to be that carefree.
Suddenly he turned, making direct eye contact with you. You bowed your head, peering down at the purse in your hands to ease the awkwardness.
Peeking out was the parchment you had stuffed in there earlier, only now it looked different. A message inked into the paper.
‘It’s over’
What’s over? You spiralled, instantly thinking of the worse case scenario.
“Shall we dance?” A voice interrupted your panic.
Before you even had a second to respond, Professor Ronen had already dragged you into a spin, causing you to laugh despite the torment in your head.
You soon found yourself doing that same carefree jig you were admiring just moments ago, with every note of the music pulling you further away from the torturous thoughts of Sebastian. Perhaps the drinks were starting to get to your head too.
“You and Weasley, eh? Must say I’m surprised,” Professor Ronen teased.
“As am I,”
“I thought you were more of a Slytherin fan,” he wiggled his eyebrows, almost flirtatiously.
You honestly couldn’t tell if he was teasing you about Sebastian or if he really did have too much to drink. Either way, you found yourself in a fit of laughter at his comment as the room was spinning around you.
“May I?” Interrupted your fun, it was Garreth.
“She’s all yours,” the Professor winked, stumbling away.
You glanced around the room at the rest of the staff who were now far beyond a sober state, a sight you never thought you’d witness. You once again spat out a giggle as Garreth wrapped his arms around you to sway you into dance. The music slowed as the lighting dimmed, leaving only gentle candlelight across the hall.
“What’s so funny?” He teased. “Is there something on my face?”
“No,” you chuckled again, placing your arms around Garreths neck and leaning into his chest. Breathing in the stench of alcohol on his robes. Your thoughts of Sebastian now far gone, in fact most of your thoughts too.
Garreth glided you across the hall for what felt like forever. It was peaceful, like dancing on a cloud. You gazed up at the starry sky above, getting lost in the lights as they moved, blurring your vision.
A warm breath grazed your ear, lingering for a moment.
“Shall we take this someplace more private?” Garreth whispered.
You eyes fluttered, tingles dotting across your cheeks. With a breath, your lips parted, about to provide an answer.
Suddenly a loud creek made you pull away, scorching your ears from the gentle music. Still in Garreths arms, you turned towards the large door as it slowly opened, revealing a silhouette.
Sebastian stood there, panting.
You instantly sobered up, feeling a rush of emotion flood you.
He’s okay. He’s alive.
Superman | Sebastian Sallow x Reader
A/N: Had a blast writing this fluffy piece after “Haunted” gutted me! Hope y’all enjoy 💚
Warnings: Fluff, pining
Tall, dark, and superman
There were an abundance of words you one could use to describe Sebastian Sallow. While some would note his fearless attitude, fierce loyalty, and bold determination, others would call him relentless, manipulative, and controlling. You? Well, you called him tall, dark, and handsome
He puts papers in his briefcase and drives away
When he accepted his position at the Ministry, you were the first one he told, a smile plastered on his face. After all the challenges he had faced, something was going wrong.
It had been your every intention to take a position beside his, but your heart was called to serve as the charms teacher at Hogwarts, taking after your dear late Professor.
To save the world or go to work
While your former classmates noted that Sebastian got all the fame and glory, you had no ill will towards him. Instead, you felt nothing but pride whenever you heard his names on students lips.
It's the same thing to me
Upon realizing you went to school with him, their eyes would light up and start bombarding you with a billion questions.
One day, after a particularly class, you were trampled with questions about your dearest friend: was he as courageous in school as he was now as a curse breaker? Was he a good student? What was his favorite drink at The Three Broomsticks?
He's got his mother's eyes, his father's ambition
Completely overwhelmed by the dozens of inquiries being thrown your way, you stood frozen. Of course you could answer every single one of them—you knew him like the back of your hand. But it was a matter of what to answer first.
That’s when, from the back of the class, in the entryway, a voice rang throughout the room, “I was quite troublesome in school—always getting your Professor here into detention alongside me. Not that she minded, though. Isn’t that right, Y/n/n?”
Your heart skipped a beat the moment your eyes met his, heat settling into your cheeks. If only his parents could see him now—they’d be so proud.
I wonder if he knows how much that I miss him
“I enjoyed the trouble—not the consequences, Mr. Sallow,” You teased, feeling a pang in your chest when you realized just how much you had missed him.
I hang on every word you say, yay
“Oh, how we loved sneaking off together,” He grinned, reminiscing over good times.
Tensing up and hoping your students twist his words the wrong way, your eyes widened, giving him a knowing look.
He knew exactly what he was doing—and he was doing it well.
After class was dismissed, he pulled up a chair beside yours, elbows resting on his knees.
And you smile and say, "How are you?"
“How are you, Professor?” Sebastian mused, nudging you with his elbow as your eyes met his.
And I'll say, "Just fine"
“Regretting leaving my door unlocked,” You grinned, scrunching your nose, “And you? What brings you to Hogwarts on a Thursday evening?”
“If you ask the ministry, I’m here on official business,” He answered, “If you ask me, it’s just another excuse to see my best girl.”
I always forget to tell you, I love you
His best girl. Oh, how you wish you could take those words out of context. He had always doted on you, that much was true. But nothing beyond his adoration for you had ever occurred.
“Dinner should be starting soon—how about you join me before your official business begins?”
He rose from his seat beside you, extending his arm for you to take, “May I?”
I love you forever
“You may,” You laughed, looping your arm in his as the two of you exited the room.
I watch superman fly away
Sebastian made it all of two steps into the Great Hall before he was pulled away from you, a dozen or so students crowding around him, many with questions about his latest adventures.
You've got a busy day today
You watched the scene unfold, your heart fluttering at the sight of him soaking up the attention. He had always been one for theatrics—though he had called down quite a bit over the years.
Go save the world, I'll be around
This was his life now—as a famous curse breaker who went from one daring mission to another. And Merlin, did you love him.
And I watch superman fly away
Watching him get tugged in every other direction, you finally took your seat among the other professors, unable to tear your eyes away from him as you began eating.
Come back, I'll be with you someday
No one else would ever compare to your Sebastian Sallow. As sweet as it was to see all those students gather around him, they only knew curse breaking Sebastian, not the broken, loyal to a fault Sebastian you had fallen in love with. And that was okay with you—that there was a part of him that was just yours
I'll be right here on the ground
It was obvious to your fellow professors—who had seen the two of you grow into a strong pair with each other. The two of you had always been…close. Closer than most friends. But nothing would ever happen, you assured them. Sebastian had a life away from Hogwarts—and you… well, your whole life was Hogwarts.
When you come back down
Sebastian finally made his way back to you, shaking his head with a lopsided smile, “I’m sorry about that, Y/N.”
Shaking your head, you smirked, “Do you think you could fit in one more autograph—or is that poor hand of yours cramping?”
Tall, dark and beautiful
He rolled his eyes, throwing a piece of bread at you in retaliation.
“All the same, you are,” He sighed teasingly, “My adoring fans.”
“Oh, you poor thing,” You responded, raising your brows as you fought back the urge to burst out laughing.
He's complicated, he's irrational
Memories of the two of you eating the same meal just a few summers ago came flooding back—all the little food fights between the two of you and Ominis, the longing looks neither of you noticed from each other, and, of course, when you were separated at opposite ends of the table for causing trouble.
He was the same Sebastian you had always known—he had just grown up.
But I hope someday you'll take me away, and save the day, yeah
A part of you longed to be away from it all—alone with him. Not that you didn’t love Hogwarts or he curse breaking—but some things couldn’t compare to living a quiet life.
Something in his deep brown eyes has me sayin'
It wasn’t uncommon for you to get lost in his deep brown eyes, caught in a daydream. They told a story of their own.
He's not all bad like his reputation
While those around you saw the now 21 year old hero, you saw the fifteen year old who just wanted to save his sister.
And I can't hear one single word they say
Whispers echoed around the dining hall, but you blocked them out.
Sebastian, however, focused on all of them.
“Is Professor L/N dating Mr. Sallow?”
“Mr. Sallow is rather handsome—isn’t he?”
“Professor L/N looks happy, doesn’t she? Especially whenever she looks at the Sebastian Sallow.”
And you'll leave, got places to be, and I'll be okay
“So, when do you head back to the ministry?”
“I’ll have to floo back later today, but I’m dragging it out as long as I can,” He sighed, taking a swig of his drink, “Any time with you is well worth it.”
I always forget to tell you I love you
You heart leapt once again, “Right back at you, Sallow.”
But what you didn’t say was: “Oh, I’m hopelessly in love with you.”
I loved you from the very first day
“Regardless of when you leave, I’m glad you were able to visit. It’s been ages.”
He raised a brow, “Certainly feels like it. Hard to believe it was only the Sunday before last at four over butterbeers.”
He remembered?
I watch superman fly away
After getting a curt nod from Headmaster Black, Sebastian sighed, shoving the last piece of his bread in his mouth, “I’ll try and catch you before I leave. Where can I find you?”
“Our spot.”
He nodded, “Ah, it’s been a while.”
You've got a busy day today
Watching him walk away, you took one last swig of your water, a sigh escaping your lips.
Professor Hecat came up behind you, her fingers gently gripping your shoulders, “It wouldn’t kill you to tell him, would it?”
Go save the world, I'll be around
Swallowing the bile that rose in your throat, you refused to meet her eyes, “I don’t know what you’re implying, Professor.”
And I watch superman fly away
“The two of you have always been inseparable—ever since the first day of your fifth year in my class, if my memory serves me right.”
Come back, I'll be with you someday
Your breath hitched in your throat, “Professor…”
I'll be right here on the ground
“Just do something about it before I retire, will you? At least something good will have come out of all those Crossed Wanda duels.”
When you come back down
“You knew about it?” You exclaimed, whipping around in your chair.
“I encouraged it, dear,” She smiled, “Now, I best be off to bed. Good luck.”
And I watch you fly around the world
Not wasting one more moment, you made your way to the Undercroft, making sure no one was watching.
And I hope you don't save some other girl
You were down there for a while, waiting anxiously for his arrival. A part of you wanted to tell him, while the other wanted to keep your secret until your last breath.
What if he was seeing someone else back in London? What would you do then?
Don't forget, don't forget about me
At least you had this one last visit if he was moving on. You could hold onto that.
I'm far away, but I never let you go
Every sound caused you to look towards the entrance, waiting for his arrival. But he still wasn’t there.
I'm love-struck and looking out the window
You waited for what felt like forever—but was really only a half hour.
Don't forget, don't forget where I'll be
Had he forgotten about you? That fast? Perhaps he had gotten caught up in other things…
Right here, wishing the flowers were from you
Finally, the door swung upon and Sebastian appeared in your view.
A wide smile spreading on your face, you gave him a pointed look as his eyes wandered around the room, “Hasn’t changed much, has it?”
“No, no it hasn’t,” He replied, but he was looking right at you.
Wishing the card was from you
Your heart melted all over again, taking a step towards him.
Wishing the call was from you
“Sebastian—“
“Y/N—“
The both of you laughed, shaking your heads. Always on the same wavelength…
'Cause I loved you from the very first day
Taking another step toward, you sighed, “I’ve missed you.”
I watch superman fly away
He did the same, coming closer to you, “I’ve missed you too, Y/n/n.”
You've got a busy day today
“I wish we were able to visit each other more often.”
Go save the world, I'll be around
“Funnily enough, my schedule just opened up.”
Forever and ever
“I wish I could say the same—but London is awfully far during the school year. With all the catching up we have to do, that is.”
And I watch superman fly away
He nodded, “Then it’s good I’ll be staying in the castle more often.”
Your eyes widened, “What are you saying?”
“You’re looking at the new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor.”
Throwing your arms around his shoulders, you pulled him towards you, tightening your grip, “Oh, Sebastian, that’s wonderful! I’m so, so proud of you, Seb—or should I call you professor?”
His hands settled on your waist as you pulled away, “I’d let you call me whatever you pleased if you so much as asked. Merlin, you don’t even need to ask.”
“Sebastian—did you really give up curse breaking to come teach? What about Hecat?”
“I wanted something more stable. Something that wouldn’t cost me my life in the long run. And Hecat—well, she’s retiring next fall and needs to train someone to take over,” He explained, “Four years of curse breaking is enough for me. I’m ready to settle down with my best girl.”
I swear, I'll be with you someday
“Settle down?” You questioned, your heart beating faster than you thought possible.
“Y/N, you’re one of the brightest witches I know. You have to know of my feelings for you,” He blushed, “I understand if you don’t feel the same, but I—“
You surged forward, cupping his face in your hands and pressing a deep kiss to his lips. He returned the embrace, brows furrowing as it deepened.
Finally pulling away, you shook your head, “And here I thought I was the one making it obvious.”
I'll be right here on the ground
“As much as I’d love to go back and forth on who was more oblivious than the other—might we repeat that once more?”
He pecked your lips, “Well, maybe more than once.”
When you come back down
Smiling as you wrapped yourself in his arms, you found your lips moving against his once more.
When you come back down
You had waited six years for this moment—as had Sebastian. Six long years of pining and not knowing what to do next—as bad Sebastian.
But the pieces were finally falling into place. And this time, it wouldn’t take another six years to settle down.
Haunted | Sebastian Sallow x Reader
A/N: So…I’m sorry in advance to anyone who reads this. It’s…emotionally damaging.
Warnings: So, so much angst, mentions of death, mentions of sickness, major spoilers for Hogwarts Legacy, grief, broken friendships, right person/wrong time
Speak Now x Sebastian Sallow Masterlist
Tumblr media
You and I walk a fragile line
“Sebastian…” You trailed off, tears welling in your eyes as memories of his uncle’s lifeless body on the ground replayed through your head.
But he remained still, unable to process what had just happened. It all went by so fast: Solomon dueling you, Sebastian casting the killing curse at his uncle, and Anne sending her brother flying back when she saw what he had done.
I have known it all this time
Ominis had told you time and time again that Sebastian was taking everything too far. But your dedication and loyalty towards your first true friend at Hogwarts had sent you on a path alongside him.
But I never thought I'd live to see it break
You’d tell yourself he’d stop, that he’d realize when he was going too far. He promised you himself that if he ever found himself going too deep, he wouldn’t go any further.
But Sebastian had never been the greatest at keeping his promises.
It's getting dark and it's all too quiet
You knelt down beside him, “You promised you wouldn’t let it get this far. You promised.”
“I don’t want to get into what I promised and what I didn’t,” Sebastian hissed, “I just lost my own uncleI don’t need you to guilt me into regret.”
And I can't trust anything now
You tensed up at his words, “You don’t regret what you did? What led up to it?”
“He almost killed you—he stopped me from saving Anne! You know I did the right thing, Y/N. I had no other choice.”
And it's coming over you like it's all a big mistake
You should’ve tried to stop him. All those promises he made, all the times he blindly led you into danger—nothing would ever be enough for him unless his sister was healed.
Mistakes had been made on both of your parts—but you couldn’t help but think if you had stopped him sooner, that none of this would’ve happened.
Oh, I'm holding my breath
“You just killed someone, Sebastian. How did you have no other choice?” You choked, sinking back on your heels, fingers gripping the earth around you to try and ground yourself.
Won't lose you again
The past few months had flown by, with you running to his aid in order to keep an eye on him. Ominis didn’t want to lose him to the dark arts—and neither did you. But it was too late. He was already gone—you had lost him.
Something's made your eyes go cold
Searching his eyes for any sign of remorse, the only emotion you could find on his face was one of determination and anger. He was more hurt that his uncle had destroyed the relic than he was that he had murdered his own blood.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
Blinking back the tears as your mind spun, you reached for his hand, gripping it tightly, “Sebastian—please stop. You can’t do this ever again.”
I thought I had you figured out
“If I give up now, I give up on Anne. And I will never give up on my sister.”
Something's gone terribly wrong
Sebastian was a shadow of the boy you had grown to know and, against better judgement, fall in love with.
You're all I wanted
You had always dreamt of holding his hand in yours, brushing your lips against his knuckles. But you never thought that the dream of holding his hand would be your worst nightmare.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
“Sebastian, please,” You cried, “You’ve gone too far—this is what Ominis was worried about. What Solomon was worried about. Please.”
I thought I had you figured out
Sebastian rose from the ground, his hand still entwined in yours.
“Help me, Y/N. Help me cure Anne.”
“I’ve trying to help you come to your senses, Sebastian. Stop this. Please,” You begged, but he merely tried to pull his hand away.
Tightening your grip, you pleaded with him not to go any further. But he finally shrugged your hand away, leaving you a weeping mess.
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Watching him leave, you could hardly contain your tears. You had witness a murder and the downfall of your best friend—the boy you loved—in the span of an hour.
Can't turn back now, I'm haunted
Returning to Hogwarts that night, you found yourself feeling hollow. You walked back to your dormitory numb, your ears ringing and head spinning whenever you thought about the events that had just unfolded.
Stood there and watched you walk away
At the end of the hallway, you spotted Sebastian entering the Undercroft. Normally, you’d be on his heels, ready to follow him to the ends of the earth. But now you found yourself watching him walk away, standing still as if time had frozen.
From everything we had
Memories of all the months you had spent with Sebastian by your side came racing back into your mind. The two of you were unstoppable together: at the top of your class, the best duelists in the school, and always getting into some sort of mischief.
But I still mean every word I said to you
Despite everything he had said and done, you know deep down that you’d forgive him in a heartbeat if he only asked. Your love for him easily replaced the disappointment.
He will try to take away my pain
Over the next few months, you saw Sebastian less and Garreth and Natty more. You tried to surround yourself with positivity—even though your mind was elsewhere.
Natty would try and take you on adventures of your own while Garreth got you tangled up in potion making. They understood you were hurting and they did everything in their power to try and take it away.
And he just might make me smile
But they were idiots. They knew you were faking every smile, recognized that your laughs sounded phony, and noticed your eyes were empty.
But the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead
You would give anything to make things go back to the way they were before… before…
Oh, holding my breath
Excusing yourself from the table with Natty and Garreth, you exited the Great Hall, trying to steady your nerves.
Won't see you again
Pacing around the empty corridor, you tried to think of the last time you were happy. But every memory had something to do with Sebastian or Ominis. And thinking of the latter made you think of the former and that made you think of—
Something keeps me holding on to nothing
You spotted Sebastian out of the corner of your eye, his focus on you.
He’d never admit this, but he worried about you. He’d never stop what he was doing—but he took notice of your changing behavior and often watched you from afar, just to make sure you were okay.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
Your eyes met his, but the second he noticed you were looking back at him, he bolted, speed walking through the halls.
I thought I had you figured out
Against better judgement, you followed him, trying to keep up with him.
“Sebastian!” You called out, “Wait—please!”
Something's gone terribly wrong
It didn’t take long before he was trapped in the astronomy tower with no where to run. He couldn’t hide from you anymore.
“Y/N—you shouldn’t be here.”
“You shouldn’t be running!” You exclaimed, nearly out of breath from running up three flights of stairs.
Sebastian groaned, gripping the balcony railing, “You make your choice, Y/N, and I made mine.”
You're all I wanted
“Merlin, Sebastian, are you that daft? You’re the only thing I wanted—the only person I wanted to see each day. You were my best friend and I—I—Merlin, I loved you. I still do. And it hurts knowing that I’ll never even remotely come first.”
He sighed, unable to meet your gaze, “I love you, too, but I can’t…I can’t focus on anything or anyone else until Anne is healed.”
Your shoulders sank in defeat and you once again found yourself blinking back the tears that welled in your eyes.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
Grabbing his hand, you pulled him back towards you, your lips crashing on his. He deepened the embrace, his hands finding your waist while yours grabbed the color of his shirt, pulling him as close as you could.
Your back against the wall, your hands made their way through his hair, tangling in his brown locks.
When the two of you finally pulled away, your foreheads resting against each other, both of you were out of breath.
Pressing one last chaste kiss to your lips, Sebastian slowly stepped away.
I thought I had you figured out
Biting down on your bottom lip, you tried to contain the sobs that tried racking through your body.
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
You couldn’t breathe—he truly had taken your breath away. Sinking down to the floor, you closed your eyes.
Can't turn back now, I'm haunted
Now, it was you who was a fraction of the girl you used to be.
I know
He had changed.
I know
You had changed.
I just know
And nothing would ever be the same again.
You're not gone, you can't be gone, no
The Sebastian you had known and fallen in love with was gone—replaced with someone you couldn’t even recognize.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
You’d do anything to see “your Sebastian” one last time. But that wasn’t possible.
I thought I had you figured out
What if you had been wrong—what if the man Sebastian had become was who he had been the whole time? Had he been lying to you—misguiding you—hell, manipulating you?
Something's gone terribly wrong
What if this was your fault? If you had said something sooner, maybe he would’ve—maybe he’d still—you could barely think.
Won't finish what you started
The truth was, it was unlikely he’d figure out a way to cure Anne. And even if he did, he’d be so overcome by the dark arts he’d probably wind up selling his soul to the wrong people.
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
Rising from the floor, you gripped the railing before you, watching as the clouds shifted in the sky.
I thought I had you figured out
From now on, you wouldn’t let the past control your future. No matter how much your heart ached and long for Sebastian, you’d put one foot in front of the other until you had moved on.
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Taking a deep breath, the fresh spring air filled your lungs.
Can't go back, I'm haunted
“Goodbye, Sebastian…” You muttered, pulling away from the balcony.
You and I walk a fragile line
From then on, whenever you saw him in the hallway, you avoided making any sort of eye contact with him. You no longer followed him into the secret corners of Hogwarts—instead, you made your own path.
I have known it all this time
Your friendship with Ominis was mending, although it would take time. Now, your time was mostly spent with Natty and Garreth.
Never ever thought I'd see it break
For the first time in a long time, a genuine smile settled over your face at one of the Weasley’s failed experiments. You and Natty just shook your heads, a small laugh escaping each of your lips.
Never thought I'd see it
It still hurt, seeing him in the hallway on his own. You never thought you’d see the day where he was walking without you by his side.
But you were healing—no matter how haunted you remained.
How could I ever forget you? Chapter 12
Sebastian Sallow/Professor Sallow × f!MC / reader
Somehow it had taken until your final day at Hogwarts to finally show Sebastian how you felt, and by then it was too late. "Are you sure you're okay, MC? You're really not acting like yourself."
"I'm fine, Garreth. Really."
You were not fine. You were probably the furthest thing from it. But that didn't stop you from lying in the faces of everyone at Hogwarts, everyone but Sebastian that is. You thought that perhaps you'd been a bit too honest with him, that maybe things would be easier if you'd just let him erase that kiss from your recent memory. He was all you could think about, the shadow of that night consumed your every thought. So here you were again, strolling around the Hogwarts valley with your favourite distraction.
"If you need something, anything at all, you know I'm here. Would be best if that something is a potion though."
Garreth was truly trying his absolute best to cheer you up, and his efforts did not go unnoticed. However there was simply nothing in the world that could heal this particular wound, not a potion, not Garreth, and especially not Sebastian.
"Thank you Garreth, I promise I'm okay. Just under the weather is all," you lied.
You soon approached the wooden bridge leading back into the school, prompting the both of you to part ways. As you turned to Garreth, a warm touch gripped your waist, pulling into a tight hug. Your arms found themselves wrapped around Garreth's neck, head buried into his shoulders. It was nice, you needed it.
Pulling away, you stepped backwards onto the bridge, a little blush warming your cheeks.
"Duty calls," you smiled.
"Have a good day, Professor," Garreth smiled back.
~~~
You sat comfortably in your office, minutes away from the end of last period. You had not received a single knock at the door this particular day, until now that this.
"Come in!" You called.
The door slowly crept open, it was Robin. You were instantly filled with dread. The poor sweet girl always knew exactly how to ruin your day, despite never intending too, of course.
"Robin," you sighed. "I really hope you don't have any bad news for me, I've had quite the few days and I don't think I could handle it."
Robin stepped back behind the door. "Oh, sorry-"
"No- Robin! I'm sorry I didn't mean to snap like that. I'm just not feeling well, come in, please. You always have wonderful things to say."
"No, it's that... I do have bad news today," she stepped back into the room.
"I can handle it," you smiled.
Robin took a deep breath, looking rather distraught.
"Professor Sallow, he-" she stuttered.
Panic became you, your heart racing and stomach turning. He what?
"He's leaving!"
"Oh."
"He told us in class today, this may be the last time he teaches us. He's my favourite teacher MC, do you know what's going on?"
"I'm sorry Robin. I don't"
~~~
The longer you lingered on the thought of Sebastian leaving, the more your heart ached. You truly had no idea how to feel. What he did that night was unforgivable. But that didn't change that he was born to teach, it was literally in his blood. You'd assumed you were of course the reason he'd decide to step down, you had threatened him after all. It seemed the torment must have been getting under his skin all long. It was all so.... confusing. You knew he can't have gotten caught for what he had tried to do to you, or he'd be gone already. You'd watched his life go by through struggle and pain to get to this point, teaching was his destiny, you couldn't let him throw it away. Especially not because of you. You had to change his mind.
You grabbed the parchment he had enchanted and scribbled a note across the paper.
'Sebastian, we need to talk'
~~~
A couple of days went by and nothing. Your note still remained etched into the parchment, unanswered. You had not seen a single sight of him, not once. Could he have left already? Or was he wandering the halls under a disillusionment charm in order to avoid you? You truly wouldn't put it past him.
That was until you stepped onto the grand staircase that night, looking up to see Sebastian standing a floor above you.
"Sebastian," you called up, grabbing his attention. He turned to you, meeting your eyes before turning away and continuing his way up the stairs. So this was to be a chase?
You picked up the pace, practically running after him. It seemed the school had your back, as the stairs came to a halt, not allowing Sebastian to climb any further. He darted across to the seventh floor, going in whatever direction he could in an attempt to get away from you.
"Sebastian, stop!" You called out, now only a few metres behind him.
"What do you want from me? You told me to leave you alone, remember?" He replied, pacing through the hallway ahead of you.
"You- you can't-"
Suddenly Sebastian stopped in his tracks, staring up at the wall in front of him. You stumbled behind, setting your gaze on what had put a stop to his racing.
A door, revealing itself in the brickwork.
The room of requirement.
The two of you gave each other a quick look, as you now stood beside each other gazing up at the door. Without a second thought, Sebastian stepped forward, entering the room. You swiftly followed, far too curious to ignore what could be waiting for you inside.
As you entered, you faced a large mirror, a mirror you recognised right away. The Mirror Of Erised. The last time you had come to find it here you were only a sixth year, and you were rather curious to know if you'd be faced with the same reflection as before.
You stood beside Sebastian, both staring deeply into the hazy glass. The image reflected to you was nothing but what stood beside you in the room, Sebastian, just as he was.
Suddenly you watched as Sebastian's hand moved closer, gently taking ahold of yours. Your eyes darted to the real Sebastian, as a light tickle rushed against your fingers, all but an illusion. As Sebastian remained with his hands by his sides.
Quickly Sebastian flinched, moving his arm away and grabbing his own palm, staring at you in complete bewilderment.
Did he feel a gentle touch across his fingers too? Could it be possible ... he sees exactly what you do?
"MC... What is this?" He asked, turning his gaze back into the reflection. A single tear gently fell from his eye as his stepped closer, holding up his fingers up to the glass.
"What the hell is this?" His shaky voice whimpered, unable to hold back the need to cry.
"Sebastian, do you... see me in there?" You whispered.
"No I don't, I-" he stuttered, choking on his words. Immediately he turned around, darting straight back out of the room.
You ran after him, as he continued going higher into the castle, before reaching the astronomy tower.
"You can't run from me forever!" You called up to him from the wooden steps. Dragging yourself up further and further, panting through the elements.
You finally reached him, at the very top. He stood there, his hands on his knees. Teary eyed and gasping for breath. It was absolutely freezing up there. The cold wind rushed through the night sky, blowing Sebastian's hair in every direction, and sending ripples through his cotton shirt.
"She broke up with me. Is that what you want to hear?!" He cried out to you, turning away and leaning over the balcony edge.
Perhaps it was Ostara he saw in the mirror all along.
"No, I-" you shouted over the wind, slowly approaching him. "I wanted to tell you that you can't leave the school. You're an amazing Professor Sebastian, please don't give up. Not because of me."
"I'm not leaving permanently, even if I wanted too, I can't," he took a breath. "Oh MC, you do not understand the trouble I'm in."
"Then let me understand."
"I can't- I.. don't want to put you in danger I..... I'm an evil selfish bastard MC. You're better off staying away from me. Everybody is."
Your throat began to swell, your body limp, you couldn't hold back anymore. You were battered, bruised, exhausted. You had to tell him, you had to tell him with everything you had.
"I can never stay away from you, Sebastian," you choked. "I know you know that."
"I thought you... feared me. I've been trying to turn it around. I understand why, you've seen me... and then the night we kissed I- I'm-"
"What are you talking about? How could you ever think-" you stepped forward.
"The Boggart, MC. I haven't stopped thinking about it. I'm such a monster you-"
"I'm not afraid of you Sebastian," you reached out your arm to him. "I'm afraid of.... not being your happiness anymore."
Sebastian stepped back, smiling through the floods of tears. He raised his wand to the stars above, breathing so heavily the moonlight rhythmically glistened across his chest.
"Expecto Patronum," he cried into the night, a bright light glowing from the top of the entire castle. In an instant, hundreds of glowing blue moths appeared in an explosion of magic, fluttering around the tower like stardust.
You smiled so much at the sight that you could only cry harder, never feeling emotions with such intensity ever before. Everything in this moment was simply indescribable. Too good to be true, even.
"Sebastian," you whispered.
"There is never a world where you are not my happiness, MC," his voice soothed. He towered over you, gently caressing your cheek, analysing every inch of the face he adored so much.
His eyes met the ground again, as he turned away. "But," he paused, the tone of his voice rinsed with pain. "This is all so much bigger than the both of us." He backed away from you, looking back out onto the moonlit mountains.
"Why do you keep talking like this? I-" you were cut off, by the wing of an owl swooping in. Starling.
She dropped an envelope in your hands and glided back into the darkness. You peered down at the letter in your clasp.
Sebastian's letter. Natty must have finally sent it back.
Sebastian's eyes widened, realising what you now possessed.  Your finger gently ran across the seal, ripping apart what had been kept shut for years,
"MC, wait! I can explain-"
You unfolded the parchment, finally revealing that long unanswered question.
Would you forgive me, if this was all for Anne?
"What do you mean, all for Anne?"  You asked, a million thoughts racing through your head.
"I never meant for it to go this far MC, it was supposed to be so simple. I never wanted any of this, I never wanted to hurt you."
The two of you stared at each other, utterly broken. Nothing made sense, absolutely nothing. How was any of this for Anne?
"I... I made an unbreakable vow," he muttered.
"To Ostara?"
"No, to her father."
"A vow to marry her?"
"No-" he took a breath. "He's a dark dark wizard, I should never have meddled with this... I made a vow to find something for him, something hidden in Hogwarts. Something that belonged to Salazar Slytherin."
"Why...why in Merlin's name would you do that?"
"To save my sister."
It all came flooding back to you in an instant. Everything Ominis had said, about her father being a healer, about him losing the plot. Ostara's father dabbled in dark healing magic, the kind of magic Sebastian believed was enough to cure Anne.
"Does, does Ominis know about this? Have you been using him as a pawn in your little game?! Just like Ostara?" You were angry now, the fact Sebastian was willing to meddle with people's lives like this infuriated you. All the years of torment, and it was all to try and cure Anne?
"No." He said raising his voice. "This was all his idea. He introduced me to Ostara, so I could get to her father. All I wanted to do was woo her, not marry her. But that man, he was persistent... He wouldn't even talk to me unless I proved my devotion to her. That's why I'm here MC, that's why I fell off my broom, that's why I'm at Hogwarts."
You were speechless. You tried to reach for what to say, but no words came out. You just looked at him, standing there, hopeless in the wind.
"I didn't want to drag you into this, MC. It's been difficult to try and keep you, Anne and Ostara safe. But... Anne is my priority. I know what I'm doing is wrong, I know it's hurting people. If I was hurting anybody else I wouldn't care, but you... it is torture to know I'm hurting you. You've made this difficult for me, MC. You really have."
"It was Anne you saw in the mirror, wasn't it?"
The pain in Sebastian's eyes was hard to bare.
"It was. She looked so different, so well. I have to see her like that again, even if it kills me....and it might."
"What do you mean?" Your eyes widened, filling up with tears.
"I made an unbreakable vow, MC. If I don't go through with this, all of this-" he stared deeply into your eyes.
"- I'll die."

Mine | Sebastian Sallow x Reader
A/N: In honor of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) dropping, here’s a fic inspired by one of my personal favorites on the album: “Mine”.
Warnings: Fluff, little angst, mutual pining
Speak Now x Sebastian Sallow Masterlist
Tumblr media

How could I ever forget you? Chapter 11
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sebastian Sallow/Professor Sallow × f!MC / reader
Slow burn/fluff/angst, aged up characters 18-mid 20s
Somehow it had taken until your final day at Hogwarts to finally show Sebastian how you felt, and by then it was too late. Years pass and your distance grows stronger, despite your many efforts for him. A surprise encounter at a new job could change things forever. Finding each other once again at the very place you first met, Hogwarts.
Chapter 1: "I guess this is it"
Chapter 2: "Oh how I missed you"
Chapter 3: "Goodbye, Sebastian"
Chapter 4: " think it's time you move on"
Chapter 5: "Professor Sallow?"
Chapter 6: "Welcome Home"
Chapter 7: "You're my good luck charm"
Chapter 8: "I'm more of a butterfly person"
Chapter 9: “What have you become?”
Chapter 10: “I have something for you”
Chapter 11: “Curious”
Starling swooped over you, dropping a handful of letters at your desk.
Still nothing from Natty.
You let out a sigh of frustration. Despite Sebastian telling you it didn’t matter, you were desperate to know what was inside that letter. This waiting game was becoming excruciating.
There was however, another letter in your hand.
Hello MC!
It’s been far too long, how are you?
I’m going to be visiting my Auntie Matilda next week, and was wondering if you’d like to catch up?
Let me know!
All the best,
Garreth
You shone an eager smile at the paper below you. This was exactly what you needed, a distraction.
Things between you and Sebastian had become a little awkward since Halloween. Since the night your lips were but inches away from colliding, since you received the invitation. You’d hoped he might have spared you the torture of attending his wedding, but apparently he wanted to see you you suffer, or at least it seemed that way.
~~~
After a pleasant lesson in Transfiguration, you made your way out onto the courtyard. The temperature was dipping each and every day, leaving a blanket of November frost shimmering on the castle.
“MC,”
You looked over your shoulder, to see Professor Weasley standing under the entrance to her classroom.
“Thank you for your help as always,” she smiled.
“Of course, Professor.”
“I hear my nephew is taking you out,” she raised an eyebrow.
Taking you out? You hadn’t really thought about it being anything more than friendly, but Professor Weasley was certainly implying something.
“Just a butterbeer is all,” you said through an awkward smile.
“I don’t mean to pry, so please do tell me if I am being too forward,” she began. “Garreth is a lovely young man, he speaks awfully highly of you. In fact it was him who insisted I convince Professor Black to offer you the job. It’s none of my business, but I could really see the two of you being… compatible.”
You were stunned, to hear Professor Weasley speak this way so casually felt.. wrong. But…was she really all that wrong? Garreth had always stood by you, had been a wonderful friend. You couldn’t exactly say the same about Sebastian, whose entire purpose seemed to be to torment you. It was Sebastian who got in the way of you and Garreth before, were you really going to let him do it again? After everything he did, everything he said… to hand you that invite. Was it truly worth it anymore?
“Professor-“
“I’ve said too much, ignore me, dear,” she interrupted. “Just have a little fun, you never know where life may take you.” And with that she closed the door, leaving you stood alone in the frosty air.
~~~
Dusk had fallen, and you were still in your office, catching up on bits and bobs for the upcoming week. A gentle hum ran through the air as the wind caught the window pane, rustling against the glass. You placed down your quill as you finally completed your workload, scanning over everything to make sure you’d not missed a single detail.
Quickly, your eyes darted to the empty parchment Sebastian had given you, as words softly appeared on the paper. This was the first time either of you had actually used it, so you held your breath in anticipation for what on earth he had to say.
‘Would you join me for a stroll tomorrow?’
A stroll? A stroll where? What could this possibly be about?
As you lifted your quill to agree, you hesitated, remembering that as a matter of fact you could not join him tomorrow. You had a date.
‘I’m sorry Sebastian, I can’t. Perhaps another time?’
You waited.
‘Why?’
Nosey. He can’t ever take no for an answer.
‘Because I’m going out.’
‘Where? With who?’
‘Why must you ask so many questions?’
‘Curious’
You found yourself smiling at his handwriting on the parchment in front of you. You loved that he was interested, no matter what his intentions were. You wanted him to absolutely pine over you, just as you did him. And maybe it was working.
‘Well it’s none of your business, Sallow.’ You grinned as you scribbled.
Truthfully, you didn’t want him to know about Garreth. Your heart was still clinging on to that teenage promise you’d made, to never go out with him. Despite that Sebastian had moved on, and most likely didn’t care, the guilt in your chest remained lingering on.
‘Fine. Enjoy your mysterious day out, I’ll see you when you’re back.’
~~~
“MC!” Garreth beamed at you, with that ever contagious smile. He leaped forward, pulling you into a hug that lifted your feet so slightly off of the ground.
“Garreth,” you smiled. “How are you?”
“I’m wonderful, especially after getting to see you again.”
You felt your face blushing, your cheeks tingling against the chilly air. It was so lovely to have somebody speak to you like that, it truly made a difference.
“You’re greatly missed down in London you know. Its just not the same without you there, or Natty for that matter… I’m assuming you’ve not yet heard from her?”
“Unfortunately not,” you sighed.
“I’m sure she’s doing amazing things, wherever she is,” he reassured with a gentle voice.
The two of you took a walk around Hogsmeade, taking in the sights and smells. The town was already preparing for Christmas, leaving a festive ambiance in the air. Perusing the shops with Garreth was a lot of fun. Even if that meant having to see a huge picture of Ostara on the wall in Spintwitches.
“Sebastian certainly scored with that one,” Garreth teased, looking at the photo.
“He certainly did.”
~~~
“It’s a little hard to believe you’re a professor now,” Garreth peered at you over his butterbeer. “You were such a little rule breaker back then.”
“Garreth,” you smiled. “You don’t need to act so surprised, I know you’re the reason I got the job, your Aunt told me.”
He grinned down at his drink, clearly a little embarrassed.
“She did?” He chuckled. “I’d dread to think what else she’s told you. Good things, I hope.”
“Very good things,” you grinned back.
A little flutter appeared in your stomach. Was Garreth really making you feel this way? Perhaps getting over Sebastian wouldn’t be so hard after all? Oh the heartache you could have saved if he never stuck his nose in before.
“MC,” his green eyes met yours. They were rather pretty. “The real reason I’m here isn’t actually to see dear old Aunt Tilly. I’m actually here because I’m thinking of.. relocating.”
“Oh? Whatever for?”
“Business is going exceptionally well. I’m hoping to open up a second shop, right here in Hogsmeade!”
“Garreth, that’s amazing! I’m so proud,” you gushed.
“Thank you MC, it truly means a lot. I suppose you’ll be seeing a lot more of me.”
Garreth’s hand drifted over the table, reaching the edge of your face. Gently, he tucked a stray piece of hair behind you ear, eyes still meeting yours.
“I hope that means we could…get to know each other better..” he whispered, leaning in as his eyes fluttered shut.
You felt your body temperature rise at his closeness, not quite sure what exactly to do. Should I kiss him? What about-
Sebastian.
Your eyes gazed up past Garreths shoulder as he moved in towards you. Right there, at the opposite of the pub, stood Sebastian.
Locking his eyes with yours, completely expressionless, he took a sip of his butterbeer and turned away.
You froze, before leaning away from Garreth in an instant.
“Garreth I-“ you stuttered. “I can’t, not right now. I’m sorry I just-“
“Hey, it’s okay! Don’t worry about it MC.” He smiled, with genuine compassion.
Garreth, you are far too nice, you thought to yourself. Far, far too nice.
~~~
By the time you’d made it back to Hogwarts it was far past students bedtime. The day you’d spent with Garreth was lovely, despite Sebastian’s intrusion. He didn’t look back at you once, in fact you never even saw him leave. Thankfully, he was definitely gone by the time you and Garreth parted ways, otherwise that would have meant for an incredibly awkward conversation.
You finally reached the outside of your bedroom. The hallway was dark and dusty, making it impossible to find your door key. Why must wizards insist on using these muggle inventions anyway?
“Had a nice time with Weasley?” A voice echoed from behind you.
Sebastian.
“Yes, I did as a matter of fact.” You replied, still facing your door.
Foot steps creeped up behind you, getting closer with every passing moment.
“How dare you pass up on a day with me, for that tosser,” Sebastian muttered under his breath with a slight chuckle.
“Why do you even care?” You teased, feeling the warmth of his body approach your back, his hand pressed up against the door in front of you.
“I just don’t like to see him sticking his ginger little nose where it doesn’t belong,”
You instantly turned to face him, anger bubbling up inside of you.
“What the hell is your problem, Sebastian?” You snapped, looking up at him.
Within seconds, Sebastian had slipped his hand behind your neck, colliding your lips with his. His fingers tangled in the back of your hair, pushing you against the door in a battle of aggressive affection. You grabbed his collar, pulling him even closer than you’d ever thought possible, begging for this moment to simply never end.
But it did, he pulled away, gasping for the air you’d stolen from him. He took a few steps back, as you stepped away from the door. Consuming each others aura in the moonlit hallway. His expression turned to that same picture of regret, guilt completely taking over him.
You watched as he took another step closer to you, as if to collide with you once again. His hand raised, but not to hold your face, instead to hold a wand.
“Ob- oblivi-“
Your hand snapped the wand from his clasp in an instant, sending it flying back down the corridor behind you.
“You were not about to just remove my memory, Sebastian,” you boomed, his eyes locked at the ground.
You paced backwards, trying to comprehend the scene in front of you as Sebastian dropped to his knees, face in hands.
“Sebastian- “ you said in shock, hand to your forehead, completely spiralling. “Sebastian, what the fuck?!”
He visibly winced at your use of muggle language, before moving his hands, revealing his face soaked in tears. Utterly defeated.
“You have no idea what I’m trying to protect you from-“ his voice cracked.
“Protect me?! What could possibly be worse than the damage you’ve already done?!”
“MC I-“
“I could have you your job for that. I could take away your career, your life from what I know, from the things I’ve witnessed,” you gasped for air. “But I won’t turn you in, you know why? Because I pity you, Sallow.”
You stepped further back, retrieving his wand from the ground. He looked up at you, pleading in desperation. The sight made you sick. In that moment, you absolutely hated him.
“I thought you’d changed, Sebastian,” you muttered, throwing the wand to the ground in front of his knees, tears immediately forming in your eyes.
“Go back to your fiancé, and stay away from me.”
Finding each other once again at the very place you first met, Hogwarts.
Chapter 1: "guess this is it"
Chapter 2: "Oh how I missed you"
Chapter 3: "Goodbye, Sebastian"
Chapter 4: "I think it's time you move on"
Chapter 5: "Professor Sallow?"
Chapter 6: "Welcome Home"
Chapter 7: "You're my good luck charm"
Chapter 8: "I'm more of a butterfly person"
Chapter 9: “What have you become?”
You stumbled through the castle, a large pile of books in hand. You promised a student you'd return them on their behalf, so that they could make the quidditch try outs on time. You didn't want to be the reason they missed out on such an opportunity, but it was exhausting.
Carefully, you made your way up the little stone staircase, towards Sebastian's office. It was a weekend, so there was no reason to assume he'd be there. But you were wrong.
With your free hand you pushed open the door, which hit right into something as it swung open. Quickly realising it was actually someone, you scrambled to apologise.
"Oh! I'm so sorry!" You said behind the pile of books in your hands, reaching way above your head. "I didn't mean to interrupt, I can come back another time-"
"It's okay, I was just leaving." A voice replied, rather uncomfortably. It was Ostara. She pushed past you, bags in hand. "It was good to see you again, MC," she muttered before stepping down the staircase and out of the room.
"I, I'll just put these here," you stuttered, assuming Sebastian was at his desk.
"Go ahead," his voice replied.
You placed down the books and darted straight out of the door. The energy in that room was uncomfortable, but something made you turn back.
Reappearing at the door frame, you mustered up the courage to speak, trying to find the right words to ease the awkwardness that lingered in the air.
"I don't know what I just walked into... but I am here for you, if you need to talk about anything,"
Sebastian looked up from his writing and gave you a soft smile, his eyes shadowed with pain.
"I'll leave you too it," you smiled, turning back out of the door.
"MC-" he said, reeling you back in. "Thank you."
~~~
Night had fallen, and you still had a pile of books needing to be returned, thankfully this was the last batch that only needed dropping off at the library, so you set off to do so while the students were in bed.
Arriving at the library you slammed the books down, you could have just left them there to be organised by the librarian, but you weren't like that. One by one you picked up each book and returned them to their proper homes. In all honesty, you found it rather relaxing, you could have gone all night.
Your bliss was interrupted by a dash of light in the corner of your eye, coming from the restricted section. It seemed that you were not alone after all. You set your book down and went in to investigate, expecting to find a student sneaking around, just like you did.
The restricted section was like a never ending maze, but it seemed all of those forbidden trips there actually came in handy, as you knew the way around like the back of your hand.
You turned, the light of your wand illuminating the shadow of a figure standing in the far corner. You stepped closer, as the light revealed this midnight bandit.
It was Sebastian. Of course it was.
"What a surprise to see you here," he peered at you.
"I thought you were a student, I came here to scold you," you teased.
"What have you become?" He grinned, chuckling to himself.
You couldn't help but find yourself grinning with him. The two of you together again in the restricted section? What were the chances?
"What exactly are you doing here at this hour anyway? You're a professor now, you can visit at any time you know? You're allowed," you investigated.
"That's none of your business," he paused. "But isn't everything more fun at night? Speak for yourself, what are you doing here?"
"I was still returning those books.."
His grin grew wider.
"You're such a good girl now.,"
Your heart began to race, your face flushed the sweetest pink.
"There's the Sebastian I know," you whispered to him.
Oh how he loved that. You could see the old Sebastian getting closer to the surface with every passing second. Like these old enchanted bookshelves possessed the power of time travel.
A bright light blasted towards you from behind, blinding Sebastian as he faced you.
"Professor Ronen?" He squinted. The light lowered, revealing the professor stood behind it.
"Well, what do we have here?" He grinned. "Of course I'd find you two in the restricted section, unfortunately now I can no longer punish you for it. Enjoy yourselves," he hummed, turning away.
You turned to Sebastian, holding back laughter. It seemed that he had already let his go, giggling to himself at the interruption.
"He has said some strange things to me lately," you laughed, hiding your face behind your hand.
"Hm, me too," Sebastian chimed. "Well-" he paused, immediately snapping out of his smile. "I should be going, goodnight MC." He picked up a small stack of books and parchment, and with that he disappeared.
You stood alone for a moment, regaining your composure. As you made your way out, you noticed a peculiar piece of parchment laying on the ground. Sebastian must have dropped it, you thought to yourself, reaching forward to pick it up.
A hand quickly snatched it off the ground before you, Professor Ronen. He assessed the paper in his clasp, eyes widening as a smirk arched from his lips.
"Interesting, very interesting.."
"I think Sebastian dropped that, I should return it to him," you said, asking him to hand it over.
"Yes," he raised an eyebrow. "You should," he passed you the paper.
Your gaze drifted over it, it was completely empty, just a blank page. Why was Professor Ronen so intrigued by it?"
"That boy is rather fond of you," he commented.
Why was he constantly sticking his nose in?
"Oh, and before you return the parchment, try writing a little message on it, perhaps a friendly hello," he chuckled, walking away.
A friendly hello?
~~~
You arrived back to your room, still wondering what on earth Professor Ronen was talking about. It was unbearably late, and you desperately needed sleep. Before heading to bed you laid out the parchment upon your desk, gandering at it, trying to notice anything out of the ordinary. It was just a normal piece of paper. Why should you even have to return an empty parchment?
You couldn't ignore what the professor had said, no matter how ridiculous it seemed. You grabbed your quill, and jotted down a single word.
Hello?
and headed off to bed.
~~~
A week had passed, and the parchment remained exactly how you'd left it. Perhaps Professor Ronen was toying with you all along, and soon the parchment was buried under the rest of your work, seemly forgotten about.
That was until another week later, as you sat back at your desk scribbling away a letter to Natty that would remain unread. As you picked up the envelope the parchment below slipped, revealing the note you'd left there two weeks ago.
But your Hello? was gone.
In its place a new message had taken form, in the handwriting you always recognised.
'Who is this?'
The parchment was a messenger. It had been enchanted with a rare form of magic, a magic you knew Sebastian had always been intrigued by.
A memory flooded to the forefront of your mind. He had tried this before, seventh year. You recalled him whispering to you at the back of potions one day, claiming he was going to make one, in order for you to still talk from your dorm rooms each night. His words played in your ears like a song.
"Sebastian, Ominis will kill you if he finds out, you know this kind of magic is forbidden in school."
"What he can't see, wont hurt him."
You sighed to yourself, reminiscing on those days as students. He could never figure it out back then, but he clearly had now. But why? Probably an easier way to talk to Ostara. It can't have been to talk to you, anymore.
You grabbed your quill again, hovering it above the paper.
'I can return this to you,'  you wrote down, patiently waiting for a response.
'I need you to leave it somewhere'
That made sense, he wasn't supposed to have it, even as a professor. And for all he knew he could be talking to anyone, even a student. It was surprising Professor Ronen didn't turn it in immediately. Why did he give it back to you?
The parchment had asked you to leave it in the bell tower after classes the next day, which you of course intended to do. But that would be after attending one of Sebastian's classes again, which you were of course looking forward too.
~~~
As always you stood at the back of Defence Against the Dark Arts, admiring Sebastian from afar. Today, the classroom was set up a little differently. Incredibly reminiscent in fact, of how it looked the day you met.
A large table was set up in the middle of the class, with students huddled around it. Right on time, Sebastian emerged looking out on his little kingdom.
"Let's kick things off today, with a little duel," he said with a smirk. "Any volunteers?"
"Sir!" A voice called out, "I think you should duel Miss Moth, sorry- I mean Professor MC!"
A mutter was heard across the students as the smirk on Sebastian's face grew into a large grin.
"Did you know, Professor MC was the best duellist in Hogwarts back in the day?" He boasted, pointing his wand at you. "Even better than me."
A sea of surprised expressions turned to you, as Sebastian walked across the long table to the back of the room, reaching out a hand to you as you stood at the end.
"May I, crossed wands champion?" he grinned, still reaching out for you to take his hand.
Were you really going to do this? The last time you were involved in any kind of duel it was fatal. Would seeing Sebastian fight again bring back that horrible memory, would you end up passing out onto the floor?
You looked up at him, his hand hovering above you. That smile was your weakness. Merlin, would he always win you over?
"You may," you smiled, placing your hand into his. Warmth instantly became you. His hand, his touch, so soft and gentle. As he pulled you up onto the table, you felt his thumb delicately brush over yours, not letting go for just a few moments too long. The affection so purposeful, every little move with such intention.
You stood opposite each other, wands in hand, beaming smiles.
"Let's see if you've still got it, Sallow," you smirked. A choir of ooo's surrounded you at the comment. The students had never seen this side of you, or anyone standing up to Professor Sallow for that matter.
Sebastian smirked, before firing the first shot, which you of course swiftly blocked and returned in an instant. As he blocked again you quickly fired levioso, pulling him into the air.
The students stared at him in pure bewilderment, as you fired depulso, sending him crashing backwards. Somehow he landed on his feet, pure thrill in his eyes.
"Oh, you want to fight dirty, Professor?" He smirked. "Accio!"
A force pulled you forwards, directly towards him. He held you there for a moment, your bodies just inches apart. You stared at each other as he took a breath, smiling. The air from his lips brushed you nose, causing your entire body to shudder.
Within seconds you were thrown backwards, stumbling. You found your feet and whacked a spell at him.
"Expelliarmus!"
His wand went flying backwards. You shot at him one, twice, three times until he finally reached the end of the table, falling backwards onto the ground.
You were expecting a cheer at your victory, but the room was dead silent. Slowly, you stepped forward, peering over the edge.
"Sebastian?" You whispered on approach.
You look down and there he sat, absolutely beaming at you. The face of pure pride. You extended your hand, helping him back up. This time he did not let go. Sebastian raised your first into the air above the class, as the students erupted into celebration. You were his champion now.
~~~
It was a golden sunset over the bell tower as you made your way in, carefully placing the enchanted parchment exactly where he had requested. What on earth did he need this parchment for?
He was definitely up to something.
You wondered if you should have stayed there, to let him know it was you who found it. What harm would it be, after all? However, he had made it clear he did not want to be seen, and you felt you had to respect his wishes.
But why not a little fun? A smile stretched across your face.
You pulled a quill from your pocket and scribbled down a final message to Sebastian.
'You're a terrible duellist.'

How could I ever forget you? Chapter 7
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sebastian Sallow/Professor Sallow x f!MC / reader
Slow burn/fluff/angst, aged up characters 18-mid 20s 🌿
Somehow it had taken until your final day at Hogwarts to finally show Sebastian how you felt, and by then it was too late. Years pass and your distance grows stronger, despite your many efforts for him. A surprise encounter at a new job could change things forever. Finding each other once again at the very place you first met, Hogwarts.
Chapter 1: “I guess this is it”
Chapter 2: “Oh how I missed you”
Chapter 3: “Goodbye Sebastian”
Chapter 4: “I think it’s time you move on”
Chapter 5: “Professor Sallow”
Chapter 6: “Welcome Home”
Chapter 7: “You’re my good luck charm”
The letter in question had entirely slipped your mind, as it remained tucked in the back of a year old diary. A diary that was buried under your bed in your apartment, in London.
You quickly scrambled together a letter to Natty, insisting she send it back to you, however you knew it was a pointless attempt. Natty was on a prolonged secret mission. You had no clue where she was, or even when she would return home.
Your only hope was to ask Sebastian outright, as uncomfortable as that may be. As you lay in bed you kept replaying his words over and over like a broken record. Maybe you were better off not being friends? You truthfully could barely cope with the idea of him getting married. It was torture to think of it.
And what in merlins name was this important question? A question so important your friendship entirely depended on it. The concept made you dizzy, as your entire being filled with regret over being afraid to open that letter all that time ago.
~~~
The next day you were scheduled to attend your first class of his. Defence Against The Dark Arts. You could still hardly wrap your head around him teaching it, but were incredibly curious to witness it, that’s for sure. As you made your way there you reminded yourself of the plan, to hang around at the end of class and confront him outright about this so called question. Cornering him so he could not avoid you any further. This little plan had your heart racing with anxiety, but it had to be done.
You eventually arrived to that oh so familiar classroom, stepping into a crowd of third year students. Sebastian emerged from his office and gazed down at the lot of you, hands on the stone balcony, leaning with a grin. He appeared with such pride, like he truly knew what he was doing. The confidence he was clearly lacking the last time you spoke had certainly retuned to him, it seemed that teaching was his spark.
The two of you stood in the very room you met, this time with such a shift in dynamics. Your minds eye kept switching from the present to the past, revisiting memories of that first duel that took place right where you stood. Although it pained Sebastian that you had beaten him, he was utterly impressed. That day changed your life forever, those moments formed everything you both would become. And despite everything, here you were. How had the universe brought you right back to where to all began? Was there some magnetic enchantment pulling the two of you together? It really had sunken in that you were not allowed to get away from each other, it seemed.
Sebastian made his way down the steps and greeted the class. It was obvious he was a clear favourite amongst the students. He was the cool professor, the one everybody liked.
He gave you a glance, to acknowledge you were there. It was nothing special, just an empty look, as if he had truly no opinion of you at all. As if you were nothing but a stranger. You couldn’t help but wonder if the room brought him back to that day as it did you. His face now was certainly a contrast from that beaming grin that shone at you, as your final spell pushed him to the ground, in such awe of your abilities. It seemed that now he could not care less.
Sebastian brought the attention to a wardrobe, that stood in the middle of the room. An old dusty looking thing, with a mirror that reflected the faces of confused students.
“Today we will be learning about Boggarts,” he began, pacing the room. His white shirt moving against his skin as he walked, sleeves rolled past his forearms and a tight waist coat cinching him in. His body had become quite the feast for eyes, you knew you shouldn’t but you couldn’t help yourself from looking.
“A Boggart, will take the form of whatever you,” he paused pointing his wand to the crowd, “- fear most.”
A group of girls let out a little gasp at the idea while at the same time the boys appeared rather smug, implying they do not have fear at all. A cheeky smirk slipped from Sebastian’s lips as he enthusiastically swung around to the wardrobe.
“One by one, you will come up and face your Boggart, and hit them with a counter charm. Riddikulus.”
The first student stepped forward, as Sebastian pulled open the wardrobe door. A giant rat leaped out, squeaking aggressively at the student in front of it. The thing looked absolutely foul, with beady eyes and saliva dripping from its teeth. The rest of the class stepped back as the energy in the room immediately shifted.
“Remember the charm,” Sebastian said stepping next to the student in an offer of support.
“R..Riddikulus!”
The rat immediately deflated, shrinking down in size and turning into a rather adorable teddy bear. Sebastian picked it up and squeezed as it let out honk that was, well, ridiculous indeed. The room erupted into laughter and a line quickly formed.
You stepped back, watching as Sebastian stood by every single student as they faced their biggest fears. It was so admirable, the way he truly cared. He hadn’t really changed a bit, as he had always stood by you the same, eager to protect you from any danger. Teaching you all the forbidden spells you were not supposed to know. It occurred to you that he had always been a teacher. The passion was glowing from him, this was absolutely his calling.
As you watched, you noticed a student was quietly shuffling towards you, lingering at the back of the line.
“Are you alright?” You whispered to her softly.
“I’m… I’m scared.” She muttered.
“You’ll be okay, you can just close your eyes and cast the spell! Would you like me to stand with you?”
“Yes please but, will you do it first?” She pleaded, hands shaking and eyes watering.
You immediately found yourself in a panic. You couldn’t say no, it was your job to help her.
But.. but what if your biggest fear is something.. awful? You thought to yourself, what if it’s something that will scare these children? You’d seen a lot of horrible things, your time as an auror was harrowing. Even worse what if… what if it’s Sebastian? What if these children see their own professor step out of that wardrobe and cast the killing curse? What then?
Your heart stopped.
What if it’s Ostara?
You felt sick to your stomach, somehow that was the worst possibility. How entirely embarassing would it be to have Sebastian’s fiancé walk out of that wardrobe.
Before you knew it you were stood at the front of the class, about to face Merlin knows what. Sebastian stepped away as you stood up, looking back down at the ground which he clearly much preferred over the sight of you.
The wardrobe rustled and shook as whatever resided in there took the form of your deepest and darkest fear.
The door swung open as you closed your eyes and inhaled the most shaky of breaths. Opening them again, your eyes peered up at the wardrobe.
Nothing.
Were you truly scared of.. nothing?
The room was silent in anticipation.
Suddenly, a light flutter echoed across the class. A blue moth, with a subtle glow flew over towards you, leaving a small trail of magic behind it. It was absolutely beautiful, the room was in awe of the way it danced through the air so delicately.
You recognised it immediately. You were breathless. You were panicked. The whole world was closing in.
You sensed Sebastian’s eyes widen as he immediately came forward.
“Riddikulus!” He stepped in before you even had a moment to raise your wand. The moth burst into smoke, making a noise the children found most amusing.
“I think that’s enough for today,” his voice cracked. “Class dismissed.”
You darted out of there, far too shaken to go ahead with the plan of confronting him. You heard the mutter of students around you trying to comprehend what they had witnessed.
“Is she really scared of moths?” They laughed.
“I thought she was an auror, that’s so weird.”
~~~
Nothing could have prepared you for what your true fear really was, absolutely nothing. It was yet another night of restlessness and intense overthinking. This was meant to be fun after all, how was everything going wrong so quickly?
It soon occurred to you that you now, possessed certain freedoms. You were no longer confined to the walls of your bedroom. Not that they had necessarily stopped you and Sebastian before, however.
You were a professor, if you needed a quiet walk about the castle you could absolutely do so. And with that, you set off, in hopes of clearing you head.
With the light of your wand guiding you, you stepped foot into the castle halls. It was nice to take your time, to appreciate the beauty of the place you called home. You were incredibly lucky, it was just a matter of not allowing things to get to you.
“MC.” A voice startled you. Turning around, you scanned the hallway, peering into the abyss of darkness. It was a voice you recognised that had called out your name, a voice you missed dearly. Perhaps your mind was just playing tricks on you, it was late after all. You took a step, and it happened again. This time definitely coming from behind.
“MC?” it said again. You span, holding up your wand to investigate. A curious smile took over your face as you realised it was exactly who you thought it was.
“Professor Fig?” You smiled, looking up at the large grand portrait of your dear old friend. A tear began to swell in your eye. You knew it was all but an enchantment, that he couldn’t really be there, but it truly felt real. That your late professor was right back in Hogwarts, where he belonged.
“What a surprise to see you here,” he said with an intrigued expression.
“I could say the same thing.”
“Well, it seems you aren’t the only student out of bed tonight, or teacher should I say?”
“Teacher, yes,” you smiled. “But another? You’ve seen somebody else walk by tonight?”
“Yes! That Slytherin boy who’s parents I worked with. Sallow, isn’t it?”
“Sebastian,” you muttered to yourself.
“He was headed towards the defence tower, he does that often. Working after hours I suppose.”
You knew immediately where he was going, and it definitely wasn’t his classroom.
“I best be off, it was lovely to see you Professor.” You said with a wave.
“My pleasure was all mine, Professor MC,” he nodded with great pride.
You took off towards the defence tower, you were headed for The Undercroft.
~~~
The castle seemed to get darker the more you went on, your heart rate speeding up with every step. Perhaps it was the pace of your walk, or really just the anxiety of what you would say when you saw him. If you saw him.
As you approached the corner leading to the undercroft you noticed a light, reflecting on the wall ahead. For a moment you presumed it was somebodies wand as they headed towards you, but the light quickly danced in ways that seemed impossible, in shapes that were otherworldly. Suddenly the light turned the corner, racing towards you. You looked up and there it was again.
The moth from earlier, now the most beautiful blue, drifting through the air in a trail of sparkle.
You held your breath, backing up behind a pillar. All of the determination and confidence ripped from you in an instant.
Footsteps grew louder as you made an effort to hide. It was him, you were absolutely certain.
“Nox,” you whispered as quietly as possible, extinguishing your wand in hopes to not give you away.
Sebastian emerged from the undercroft, just as you’d expected. You peered at him, holding your breath in the darkness. A sniffle left his nose as his palm rubbed against his eyes, he had been crying down there. But what on earth for? It ached your heart to see him that way, oh how you’d wish you could cradle him into your arms. But you couldn’t, you could only stare in the dead of night. You watched as he passed you, somehow not noticing your hiding spot at all, disappearing into the pitch black darkness.
You let out a gasp of relief in his absence and made your way down into the undercroft. Feeling rather terrified to once again be in your special place.
It was exactly how you’d left it, like stepping back in time. In an instant you were 16 again, not a day had gone by. None of this had happened, not the distance, the pain, Ostara, anything. If you could have gone back, you’d have never let him get away.
You made your way over to a table that sat at the edge of the room, where the three of you used to sit and study. You, Sebastian and Ominis.
An array of items were spread across the old wood, things you’d not seen in years. It was obvious Sebastian had been looking at them, it was just like him to leave a mess.
At the top was a note you had exchanged with each other, covered in scribbles about how boring your history of magic class was. Accompanied by another huge pile of notes it would likely take hours to read.
Hidden underneath was a book, you recognised it right away. It was huge, old and covered in dust. Practically falling apart. It stuck out as you and Sebastian had stolen it from the restricted section in order to learn some forbidden magic, and came along with a memory that felt far too fragile on this particular day.
~~~
It was sixth year, and Sebastian had dragged you to the undercroft to investigate the book you had retrieved the night prior. You had acted reluctantly to his request, in an attempt to cover up how dire his presence actually was to you. It was exciting to learn something new, something forbidden. Especially from the most wonderful teacher.
“So where should we start?” He slammed the book down, grinning at you with such delight.
“Hmmm, how about here?” You said as you pulled the book open on a random page.
“Performing the patronus charm?” Sebastian read out, “Alright, let’s see.”
The next 3 days were spent aggressively studying. Sebastian would not stop until he had perfected his goal, and this spell in particular was proving rather difficult.
“Maybe it’s just not the right memory?” You asked, “What are you thinking about, anyway?”
“That’s rather personal,” he teased. “Besides, I haven’t seen you give it a go yet.”
He was right, you did prefer to see him accomplish it first. But you were intrigued, and decided to give the spell a whirl.
“Expecto Patronum!”
Nothing but a few blue sparks fell out of your wand.
“Now maybe your memory isn’t good enough,” he commented smugly.
It was hard to find the right one. It seemed like all of the good memories from your past year at Hogwarts were fogged by something horrible. Losing Professor Fig in particular had put a dull cloud over everything. You had to reach for something else, maybe something more recent.
Your mind scanned through the past few months back at school, your classes, friends, everything you’d been up too. There was one common theme in all of your good days, Sebastian. You glanced over to him, feeling butterflies racing in your stomach. Could it be? Could he really be your happiest memory.
And there it was. Him looking at you after his first Quidditch win, wrapping you up in his arms, those soft lips whispering..
“You’re my good luck charm.”
“Expecto Patronum!” You called out again, this time with such passion and glee.
You felt a force push back on your wand as light danced its way across the room. A small blue butterfly took form in the magic, as if it had flown right out of your stomach.
Sebastian stood up in complete awe, the look of pure joy plastered across his face.
“MC..” he said with astonishment, “you did it.”
You were so focused on the butterfly still swirling around you that you barely noticed Sebastian pulling out his wand beside you.
“Expecto Patronum!” He smiled as the same blue light flew from his wand.
It was as though simply the pure sight of you in those moments, were his new happy memory. You were entirely, each other’s happiness.
And there it was, dancing around the room in physical form.
Your blue butterfly, and his blue moth.

ok what if sebastian was cursed and not anne? mc meets sebastian one day after anne has told her so much about him and oh merlin they both fall in love with each other. sebastian doesn't do anything because he doesn't have much time left. he's just glad he got to meet her at all and mc is willing to do literally anything to find a cure for him. she loses herself in the dark arts for him and ends up taking the dark magic because she wants to take away his pain, wants to save him. but that wasn't necessary. he was already healed. (in this case it was maybe rookwood's death that freed sebastian from the curse or something like that)
then the 6th year begins and sebastian is there too. now that they could both have whatever was between them, she's avoiding him. she keeps away from him and everyone else. she can't control this dark magic, this power she took, she can't control herself anymore. she was dangerous. she would only hurt someone she cared about, she would only hurt him. she couldn't allow that.
and in order to be able to behave "normally" during school, she goes to the forbidden forest at night, to shady places and lets everything out. kills. fights against others in arenas. crucio is allowed during fights and she feels she deserves it, since fig died because of her selfishness. at least that's what she tells herself. the many galleons she earns are not important to her. she only quenches the thirst she didn't want. she feels like a monster. the only good thing were the beasts whose freedom she could give.
sebastian can't stand it for long and gets to the bottom of the matter, observes and follows her. now it's his turn to save her, to take care of her.
(so, dark/broken!MC and cursed+healed/protective!sebastian)
i understand if that might be too much, and if you don't want to write it at all, which is perfectly fine, could you still post it here? maybe there will be someone else who would write it because I would really, really like to read this scenario.👉🏼👈🏽🥺💗💗
Hello, Anon!
I'm going to be honest, this one may have skipped to the front of the line when you sent it in because I was so enamored with the prompt. This is a long fic, but my goodness, this cursed Sebastian just wrecked me. I love your beautiful prompt, and I honestly almost wish I would have written more. I could rewrite the whole game under this scenario just because of how differently everything could play out! I really hope you like how I've fleshed out your prompt, and I thank you for sending in such a lovely request.
This is going to be a three-part story. I should have the second part up sometime tomorrow!
The Time We Have (Part One)
When she agreed to accompany Anne to her home in Feldcroft to visit her ailing twin, MC expected to meet a sickly, bed-ridden boy. What she did not intend on was falling head over heels in love the moment she stepped through the threshhold of the Sallow's cottage.
That was precisely how events unfolded, however.
Sebastian Sallow was, for all intents and purposes, terribly unwell. One look at his unnaturally lithe physique and tired eyes was enough for even the most oblivious onlooker to see as much. Still, he greeted his sister with such unbridled affection that MC had to briefly question if Anne might have been over-exaggerating his condition.
When he turned his gaze to MC, she felt her heart stop.
He was positively magnetic, and she nearly opened her mouth to ask if there was some protective enchantment on the cottage that caused her to be so inexplicably spellbound. Rather than embarrass herself, however, she attempted to maintain some semblance of composure.
"I'm - " She began before Sebastian interrupted her immediately, effectively sealing her fate with his next words.
The way he said her name so fondly, followed by, "Anne's told me all about you in her letters. I've dreamt of the day I could finally meet you."
"O-oh. I wasn't aware Anne mentioned me." She said dumbly, turning to shoot Anne a questioning look.
The girl simply smirked, quick to pick up on her friend's uncharacteristic shyness. Surely Anne would have quite a few remarks to make about this interaction later, but for now, she'd simply amuse herself by observing. Sebastian always did have a charming way about him, and it seemed even her typically undaunted companion was not immune.
"She does far more than mention you - hell, I feel like I already know you myself." He said, beaming down at her. He was surprisingly tall, she noted, despite his sister's short stature.
A man cleared his throat uncomfortably, drawing the trio's attention toward the kitchen.
"Language, Sebastian. I know you're excited to make a new friend, but mind your manners in front of the young lady." He chided gently before approaching. "Solomon Sallow. Please forgive my nephew - unfortunately, he takes a bit after me."
MC reached out to shake his hand, smiling pleasantly. "Not at all, sir. You should hear some of what we get up to at school. Why, Anne just got detention for calling Sharp a - "
She yelped and muttered a curse after taking Anne's sharp elbow straight to the side. Sebastian snickered, delighted, and Solomon raised an eyebrow at the exchange.
"This one, it seems, takes more after her mother every day." He tutted, shaking his head at her before returning to the kitchen before calling, "Settle yourselves or head outside, just be mindful of the chill if you drag Sebastian with you."
"The chill? Uncle, you're absurd. It's not even winter yet." Sebastian complained, the slight pink dusting his freckled cheeks starkly contrasting with pale skin.
"You caught a cough in the dead of summer - wear your wool robes lest I make you wear your sister's shawl." Solomon barked, and Sebastian clamped his mouth shut.
Anne took hold of his hand and tugged him toward the door, grabbing his cloak off the hook on their way out. MC followed and closed the door behind them.
-
They'd been perched on hay bales in the field for the past hour, catching Sebastian up on most of the events of term thus far. He'd been right in that his sister certainly had ensured he knew everything and anything. The way he managed to keep up with their conversation made it feel like he had been there himself every step of the way.
"So tell me again, precisely how red was Ominis's face when he threatened to use his father against you for entering the Undercroft?" He laughed, watching gleefully as MC reenacted the scene a third time for the twins' amusement.
"Stop!" Anne howled, clutching her sides. "Your impression is uncanny. It's like he's here in the flesh."
"Don't act like you wouldn't enjoy that, sister. Or would you prefer we refer to you as the future Mrs. Gaunt?" Sebastian poked slyly, and Anne suddenly wasn't laughing anymore.
"Oh my, Anne. That red on your cheeks nearly matches the Gryffindor robes. Shall we rush you back to the castle to be with your beloved Ominis?" MC teased, and Anne scowled deeply, glaring between the two of them.
She rose to her feet and stomped away, turning back to hiss at them, "I won't stick around any longer just to be ganged up on by the likes of you two. I've half a mind to return to school alone."
"Aw, don't be like that, Anne - we were only messing around a bit." MC called after her apologetically, moving to stand and chase after her.
Until Sebastian reached out and took hold of her wrist. He needn't have grasped firmly because she instantly took a seat again at his silent request. She glanced up at him, curious.
"Shouldn't we fetch her before she spends the rest of our visit sulking?" She asked, conflicted.
"Actually, I was hoping to have you to myself for a moment if you wouldn't mind." Sebastian admitted, letting his fingers linger around her wrist just a beat longer than necessary.
Her heart picked up pace, from his words and the way she could still feel his cool touch on her skin long after he'd let go.
"Y-yeah? Why's that?" She cursed inwardly at the stutter.
His lip twitched upward briefly. "Are you nervous without my sister present?"
Her eyes widened, and she sought to defend herself. How dare he insinuate that she was nervous - even if she was.
"Nervous? What a ridiculous assumption. I've faced down dragons. Some frail boy isn't near enough to have me quaking in my shoes." She huffed indignantly, but the flicker of hurt which crossed his features had her wishing to take back the words.
Still, Sebastian laughed softly. "You're certainly right about that. I didn't used to be so frail, as you kindly put it. Wish you could've seen me duel back in third year - I bet I'd give even you a run for your galleons."
She cringed when he repeated the word frail. While the insult was unintentional, she'd still said it. Fortunately, he didn't seem particularly fazed by her slip-up and was blessedly more forgiving than his twin. Anne likely would have hexed her into a pile of cow dung.
"I'll simply see you duel next year when you're back at school." She told him brightly.
His smile slipped entirely then, and he struggled to find the words before speaking. "Anne must not have told you - I won't be back to school. Not next year, nor ever. This isn't an ordinary illness, and unfortunately, the healers all seem to agree that it simply must run its course."
"By run its course, you mean to simply lay down and die?" She asked, temper flaring.
Anne had, in fact, confided in her regarding the nature of Sebastian's curse. They'd visited every healer imaginable, with little results. The Sallows intended for Sebastian to live out his remaining days in comfort.
"Bullshit." She spat.
"P-pardon?" He asked, caught off guard by her sudden ferocity.
"You heard me - that's bullshit." She emphasized the word, hopping up to stand in front of him so she could jab a finger lightly into his chest. "From everything I've learned about you, I know damn well that you, Sebastian Sallow, are far too tenacious to simply give up just because someone told you to."
"Be that as it may, tenacity doesn't bring about miracles. The healers said - "
"I don't care what the healers said. I'm telling you that you'll be back at Hogwarts annoying the piss out of Ominis again for our sixth year. Healers be damned, I'll cure you myself." She told him confidently.
"You'll cure me?" Sebastian choked out, trying not to laugh. "As I hear it from Anne, you're brand new to magic. What could you do that dozens of curse-breakers and medi-witches haven't thought up?"
She grinned and winked, and he couldn't fight the brush creeping up from his neck. Anne had been right when describing the new fifth year's infectious charisma, and Sebastian wanted to believe in her.
"I may be new, but I have a few tricks up my robe sleeve even Anne isn't aware of." With that, she ruffled his hair and started walking back toward the cottage where Solomon was calling for them to return.
Gingerly, Sebastian hauled himself off the bale and trailed after her, smiling and feeling lighter than he had in months. Even if she couldn't cure him, he was at least certain her warm friendship would prove invaluable company during his remaining days.
He was so glad Anne brought her to him.
-
"Off to visit my brother again, are you?" Anne drawled from her resting place on the Common Room lounge chair on a late February morning.
MC had, in fact, been on her way out of the dungeons to make her way to Feldcroft. Again.
"What of it?" She asked haughtily, cheeks already burning from what she knew Anne would undoubtedly say.
"You're in Feldcroft every single weekend. You see my own family more than I do!" She said in disbelief. "Besides, you're in such a rush to head out that you've put on two entirely different shoes."
MC gasped and looked down in mortified panic, only to find her shoes matched perfectly well. She looked back toward Anne, glaring while the girl cackled.
"I'm joking. Gods, you're so smitten with my brother, and it's painted all over your darling face. Relax, you look lovely. I'm sure he's just as eager for your arrival." She waved her hand dismissively and went back to her reading, still smirking.
Anne made it a point to prod and harass her about Sebastian at any given moment over the months since that first visit in late September, enjoying the way her friend turned scarlet at the mere mention of her brother. It was practically a game by that point, and Anne delighted in the way she flustered. Sebastian had sworn her to secrecy over his own feelings when she'd pressed him about the matter, but he said nothing about not being allowed to make MC squirm.
"All your teasing aside, I really do need to leave quickly if I'm to make the most of my time visiting Sebastian today. There's a nasty blizzard coming in this evening, and I'll need to time my departure to avoid it." She said, fussing with the clasp on her travel cloak.
"If poor weather strikes, I'm sure Uncle Solomon will allow you to spend the night just like you did over the holiday. Merlin knows he'd likely have offered to adopt you by now, were you are not so intent on courting my brother." She snickered.
"Anne! My visits are innocent. I'm merely helping Sebastian stay up to pace with our studies, so he'll be fully prepared once he returns. N.E.W.T.s start soon!" She said, flustered.
Anne shook her head, smiling sadly. "You're setting yourself up for - "
"Disappointment. I've heard it all before. You should know me well enough by now to understand that fear of the impossible won't be enough to stop me." She shot back, determined, before leaving and slamming the door behind her.
They'd had the same argument several times over, and it always ended the same. Anne was insistent that they abide by the healers' orders to keep Sebastian comfortable and content for whatever time he had left. MC elected to be deaf to those orders, however, and spent every free moment she found available to her, between her ancient magic tasks as well as their class work, holed up in the Library searching for anything.
She'd even found a way into the Restricted Section, conveniently enough by way of Professor Fig when they'd needed to venture into its depths to fetch a book for the Keepers. Unfortunately, even the Restricted Section held little of value despite her ravenous consumption of any of its contents she could get her hands on, and she was progressively left with little option other than to doggedly pursue a cure by way of her ancient magic.
She ducked her head back into the Common Room as suddenly as she'd left and squeaked, "Anne, do you really think I'm being a bother to Sebastian by visiting so often?"
She shrieked when Anne tossed a pillow at her head and yelled, "I will not play along with your bloody insecurities! Now off to Feldcroft before you make my brother worry after you, you damn pest."
-
"Your wand movement is all wrong. The flourish is meant to be smooth, not sharp. Here, allow me to guide your hand." Sebastian instructed.
He carefully got up from his seat at the table to come around behind her, taking her hand in his and demonstrating the movement a few times. She could feel his breath on the back of her neck while he spoke softly, praising her when she performed the subtle twist of her wrist correctly on her own.
She tilted her head back, smiling appreciatively. "Thank you, Sebastian. I'm supposed to be catching you up on Charms, yet here you are upstaging me yet again. You're amazing."
He chuckled, placing his hands on the back of her chair and bending down to speak quietly in her ear. "There's little to do around here besides stick my nose in a book. It's one of the many reasons I enjoy your visits. Shall we take off for a bit while Uncle is distracted?"
She cast a wary glance toward Solomon, who was presently fighting with a particularly stubborn owl he intended to use to deliver a letter to an old friend of his before nodding at Sebastian.
"Brilliant - let's go before he has a chance to stop us." Sebastian grinned, scooping her hand up and leading her quietly out the door after they'd snatched up their cloaks.
The air was bitter cold that day, winter finally in full swing. She cautiously looked from Sebastian back to the cottage and wondered if perhaps it wasn't the best idea to have him out in such weather. He'd just gotten over a particularly nasty episode, and it showed by the way he looked so positively drained.
Even staring at his back while he pulled her to some lonely place they could talk in peace, she could see how the curse wore him down, and whittled away at his very being a little more each day. He was wasting away right in front of them. They were losing him.
Yet somehow, he still found the strength to smile at her and entertain her frequent visits to Feldcroft no matter his fatigue. It made her want to cry each time she thought of it, and she did genuinely worry now that she was more of a burden than a distraction from the monotony of his life confined to the little hamlet.
"I can feel you staring." Sebastian chided but kept his eyes fixed in front of them. "And I know what you're thinking. I feel perfectly fine - there's nothing to worry about. We'll head in before we get too cold. Plus, I just taught you how to properly cast that warming charm."
"I do worry, Sebastian. You weren't even able to get out of bed the past week. What if this makes things worse?" She asked, slowing her steps a little as uncertainly set in.
He turned to face finally, frowning. "You're starting to sound just like the rest of them, you know. One of the reasons I enjoy our time together so much is that you don't treat me like I'll keel over from the slightest breeze. Besides, I really do feel much better when you're around."
With his assurance, her own tension eased a bit, and she resigned herself to following again. Sebastian smiled and continued on, leading her toward an outlook above the icy river.
"It's not fair. You know I'm weak to your whims." She whined while clearing a place in the snow for them to sit comfortably, laying her scarf down to keep them dry.. "Why, you could tell me to plunge myself in that freezing water, and I'd be diving off the cliff before the words finished leaving your mouth."
"I'm aware." He nudged her shoulder with his own once they were seated. "Which is why I solemnly swear to never lord my power over you for anything too detrimental."
He grinned at her when she scoffed, but the sight of his smile quickly melted her mock indignation, and she mirrored him.
"Well, as long as you swear it. Can't imagine the trouble you'll get me into when we're finally classmates." She told him fondly.
Sebastian reached over and took her hand in his, admiring the snowy mountainscape in front of them. He spoke, and his voice sounded oddly strained.
"I know your feelings on the matter, but I need you to understand. We aren't going to be classmates. I'm not returning to Hogwarts. The healer visited last week and... " He paused and turned to face her. "They don't expect I'll see the end of this winter."
Now, she did actually feel like she'd leaped off that rocky perch and into the frozen depths below. The air was sucked from her lungs, and she felt an icy chill course through her veins. The end of winter?
She wanted to speak and tell him it would be fine. She'd simply work harder at her research. Ominis had previously declined her requests to search for Salazar Slytherin's hidden scriptorium, but surely she could convince him now if she simply worked harder at it. She just needed to work harder at everything, and it would all work out. This could still be fixed - Sebastian could still be fixed.
"Breathe - it's okay." He said slowly, watching her reaction with a mixture of concern and trepidation.
Clearly, he had been dreading this moment.
"Sebastian, there's still time. I can find a cure - I will. The ancient magic - "
"I do not want you risking life and limb over something as volatile as unstable ancient magic. I've accepted my fate, and I need for you to do the same." He said sternly.
He'd never been so serious with her, not even after she'd confided in him the dangers she willingly faced alongside Professor Fig. This was the first time he'd ever raised his voice at her, and she hated it. She hated that it was because he wanted her to be at peace with losing him.
"I refuse to accept it, Sebastian. Why do you have to just roll over and take what they say as law?" She pleaded, desperate to see some glimmer of hope as she searched his eyes. "Please, you must keep fighting. I won't give you up."
"You don't have a choice - it will happen, I'm dying regardless of your efforts. You're only wasting your energy and time when you need to focus on school and your business with Fig. Don't think I've forgotten that Ranrok and Rookwood are after you." He scolded her, and she she glared back up at him, defiant. "Don't look at me like that. Anne writes about you still - tells me that you're always dragging yourself back into the castle at odd hours, covered in all manner of grisly wounds. Whatever you're up to, focus on looking after yourself. I'm as good as dead, but you've got your whole life ahead of you. Just let me go with the knowledge you'll at least be alright."
"Are you quite finished berating me like I'm some child?" She asked bitterly, tears threatening to spill.
He looked momentarily taken aback by the venom in her tone and nodded.
"Good. Because I need you to understand something clearly, Sebastian. I will not let you go. Rookwood, Ranrok, ancient magic - to hell with it all. It amounts to fuck all if I can't even protect one person. I'll cure you whether you wish it or not - just try and stop me." She challenged.
He watched her curiously for a long while, and she could see the way he measured his words before speaking. He started a few times before pausing and restarting his sentence. It was the first time she'd seen him so conflicted - usually, words came easily to Sebastian.
He sighed heavily before finally constructing the sentence he wanted. "I'm afraid to ask because we're both well aware of the answer. It's selfish, considering how futile the whole thing is, but part of me still needs to hear you say it. Why are you going so far for me? I know well it's not because you fancy a duel from me still."
"Futile?" She repeated, broken because she knew what he was expecting her to say. Still, she wouldn't lie to him. "I'm not going to such lengths just because I'm in love with you, but it's certainly a driving factor, if that's what you're asking. I'm extraordinarily fond of you as my friend, of course, but yes, of course I love you. Is that what you wanted me to admit? Was it not obvious enough already?"
He groaned, and she thought he looked much paler than before - the fatigue on his face far more pronounced. They would need to head back soon. She hoped his rejection would be swift for the sake of his health - he'd tolerated her fawning over him for so long, but now that her feelings hung over them on that little outcrop, he would need to face them full-on.
He looked at her with a grimace, reluctant and pained. "I love you as well."
Her heart leaped, and a bright smile bloomed across her features. Sebastian smiled sadly back, and her face dropped.
"I truly do. So much so that it pains me because you must realize nothing can come of it. I've already hurt you terribly by returning your affections - soon enough, I'll be gone, and you'll be alone when you should be enjoying the attentions of boys who can actually look after you. I'm nothing more than a corpse." He said miserably, and it was the first time she'd seen him so forlorn.
She could no longer sit still, and gingerly as she could, she wrapped her arms around his slender frame and pulled him into her.
Gods, he was cold.
She quietly cast the warming charm they'd been practicing and enjoyed the relieved sigh he let out when heat radiating from her wand washed over them while she hugged him tighter to her, and he reciprocated her embrace, hesitantly bringing his hands around her waist and burying his face in the crook of her neck.
They could stay out just a bit longer.
"Then simply be happy with me for as long as we can." She told him desperately.
He pulled back just enough to look at her, and she could feel his breath on her face, could see the air from their lungs swirling in the cold between them. His freckles and the dark brown of his hair starkly contrasted against the snowy white of the world around them, and he simply looked -
"You are so devastatingly handsome, Sebastian."
He flushed dark at her shameless compliment and laughed, embarrassed.
"If this damn curse doesn't do me in first, you'll certainly be the death of me." He teased before leaning forward just a bit more to capture her lips in a soft, innocent kiss.
