This is an amazing lecture that explains how much of our belief systems surrounding gender identity can be influenced by the culture in our environments.

There is so much useful information to unpack in here. Something notable is how other societies do and have recognized that there are more than 2 genders for years and years and years.

I can't recommend this material enough.

Being particularly talented at anything is weird because people plant this idea in your mind that if you don't share it with other people then somehow that ability is "going to waste"

Here's what I say to that

It's potentially damaging to tell our children, friends, family, and peers that their greatest strengths are better spent on others than on themselves

It says that what you can do for other people is much more valuable than what you can do for your own fulfillment and enjoyment. That is putting that talent to "waste" remember?

So what happens when we don't do that and we decide not to share.

Are we going to feel like we've missed out? Will there be perceived loss?

Will we feel like we've been selfish?

Like we've done a disservice to our own human race?

To withhold such a gift

Fuck. That.

My gift is MY own to share as I PLEASE. If I am the most brilliant musician, and I never play my music for a single soul THAT DOESNT MAKE MY GIFT WASTED

That just means I chose to wield my ability in a different way than what everyone is telling us we're supposed to do

This is so valuable and explains so much of my own experience, as well as the experience of countless others.

I remember when my cousin Hannah tried to 'tell on me' for wearing a tank top when I was 12. I was made to feel like I was being inappropriate at TWELVE because my body developed in ways that made me look like a woman. I felt ashamed by this. I felt like I was the one who did something wrong here, not her.

If I could go back now I would tell my younger self that she is not wrong, that there is nothing wrong with her body or the way she dresses it. And Hannah? Shame on YOU for sexualizing MY body. You were my older cousin and I looked up to you. Instead of being a role model or a friend you scarred me and you changed the way I viewed myself for years to come.

The profile I wanted to view still popped up with another warning asking me if I was really sure

Finally I'm in, one changed email and 3 log ins later

The account stated it was a NSFW account in it's description and all viewers must be 21+

I scrolled down and practically the only thing they blogged about was politics. I didn't see a single NSFW post
