I was laying in bed this morning and I finished a Top Gun fanfic and I told my husband about it. He was like “Damn I wanna watch Top Gun now” and he got out of bed and I heard Danger Zone from his office. The dangers of mentioning Top Gun to a man.

Been reading a lot of Top Gun fanfiction because it reminds of how fanfiction used to be written — when writers weren’t afraid to be gratuitous and weird. My last few fandoms I got burnt out on the fanfiction because it got so samey and like the writers were holding back. The fic were objectively well written but kinda boring? There’s plenty of actual novels I can read for a good story, I want fucking fanfiction. I would search the main characters name with “hurt” and the same fics would turn up after a month. Top Gun writers aren’t afraid to write whump! They aren’t afraid to get old men pregnant! These are the old values I grew up with and I find it refreshing.

Comments like that about Stolas always have an air of homophobia to me. How dare the effeminate gay man become a complex character I am supposed to root for and long to see make better choices! I just wanted to see him as a 2D horny owl who was a convenient plot device every now and then >:(

Sick and fucking tired of those people who say “HB went downhill, what happened to it just being a comedy” just say you don’t like “complex” media (it’s not even complex, it’s like the bare minimum) because you’re shit at critical thinking and you only watch shows to turn your brain off.

Also what do you miss exactly? a pilot and 2 episodes max? cause it immediately established drama and angst, and if that’s not your thing, good for you, don’t watch it. But don’t get on my ass about “bad writing” just because you’re too up your own ass to stop criticizing everything you personally don’t like.

“They ruined Blitz’s character, they ruined Stolas’ character, they should’ve stayed like they were in the pilot” NO THE FUCK THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE. I want to have a reason to root for these characters, i want to be able to see all their emotions, i want to relate to them and cry when they go through shit.

Had Stolas stayed a “comedic relief” character it would’ve gotten stale fast and the whole show would’ve been so unbelievably boring. Stolas is great because he’s tragic, because he shows his humanity more than humans themselves.

And Blitz DID need to be a better character. He’s not gonna lose his whole personality, but i’d much rather see him fucking care for once. That’s all.

“it’s boring to make stella abusive and one dimensional” and I think it’s boring when stories being written in 2024 are always making excuses for characters that I don’t need to like. no one is allowed to just be a bitch anymore — they are all carrying around their own baggage or it was a misunderstanding. I find THAT boring. I actually like how they just followed through with Stella being an absolute nightmare. she’s not some secret girl boss with a dark past she’s just a regular old spoiled woman. so many people are angry that viv didn’t make a lamer show ha.

That would be my dream — for someone to show Via some flashbacks showing that her childhood wasn’t as happy as she remembered. Her memories are only nice at great expense of her father’s happiness.

I actually love the idea of Octavia throwing some huge irrational hissy fit over finding out that her Dad is choosing Blitzo in some capacity and has been on mood stabilizers this whole time. Like “Why wasn’t I enough to make you happy? Was it all an act? You were just miserable this whole time?” Her father was most certainly the best part of her life and now that he’s found someone else to love alongside her it’s hard to accept. And she’s half Stella — she’s going to have some inherent selfishness, not to mention just being a spoiled child.

I for one think this development has potential and could lead to an actually interesting Hellaverse girl (I haven’t been impressed). Fans recoil when women are made out to be flawed because it feels “sexist” but I welcome it — pure cinnamon rolls are BORING. Give me the spoiled magical princess who wants her Daddy back. Also Via could pull some magical villain shit in season 3 and find out the extent of her mother’s abuse.

it’s actually hilarious how angry that trailer made the stolitz antis — they are doubling down on some wild takes, making some wild leaps of media illiteracy, comparing them to some other relationships they bear no similarities to. They are in a complete tailspin trying to morally shame people for wanting that imp and that owl to get their happily ever after.
